Lovefilm buys right to stream Sony Pictures content

I understand now
Meh

Currently trying out

A free 1 month trial of lovefilm stream-only with the intention of watching on my xbox.

Totally agree with what you're saying. The range is.. weak. I'm checking how much they're adding as it's a young service, so far about 15 titles a week.

I'm not much of a film buff, but only 3% of the titles on there are recognisable as 'big films'.

Also struggling to find films that are less than 5 years old.

If it has it's full dvd catalogue available for streaming by January, I'll keep subbing, but right now it's very much a trial and forget affair.

2011's Best... HD TVs

Find a review under 50%

I'd hope that anything being reviewed as a TV actually IS a TV. There's not been a TV review under 50% this year. What's the point in using a score out of 100 if it's only out of 50?

If they're all high quality, those missing 50 percentage points will show their use.

I understand now
FAIL

Mouldy metrics

Sort out your metrics already. the percentage score seems to be no good at differentiating anything on this site.

The best Christmas gift tellies, all rated between 80-90%.

Ten Monster Tellies, all rated between 80-90%

Ten small screen HD TVs, all but 2 rated between 75-90.%, and the ones that are below 75% are blatantly bargain basement brands anyway.

Lets make 50% == 0% and work it out from there, or if everything is perfectly adequate, just point out what's crap - rather than what to go for.

Intensively farmed land..

Reduces biodiversity, which is why in the UK, farmers are/were paid subsidies to have proper hedgerows instead of gigantic fields or wooden fences that maximise land space.

Biodiversity is good right? So moving to intensive farming isn't the only answer.

Surprised this is reported on the register (in a serious manner anyway). It's only news to the masses who think they will get 24mbps internet guaranteed, and if they dont, it's because they need a new computer.

Can a user really do BI from the desktop?

The biggest challenge with these systems is getting data into them in such a way that keeps integrity and is effortless to use.

If a fault occurs with a product, is the servicing engineer going to fill out a database form with 50 fields, or are they going to just write an e-mail?

You've got to make data entry rigid enough to make interpretation easy, but not so rigid that some things become difficult to record. As soon as that happens, the end user thinks "stuff it" and switches to e-mail.

Microsoft! touted! to! buy! Yahoo!

benefit?

Hm, not sure I see the benefit - other than market share which seems to be stagnant or reducing.

Yahoo!'s brand has always felt somewhat dated to me, but that might be the geocities effect.

Cant see it being strategic either. Yahoo's sinking slowly and will bleed its user base to other companies. Buying it will just mean you bleed instead!
