Re: Nights_are_Long

Matt I live and work in the UK, I work for one of the largest Employer in Liverpool who is one of the most profitable company's in the UK, so please don't make assumptions.

I am a Federalist as it is the only way forward, we have a great past but now we are a small wet rock of the Coast of Europe and the way forward is unification or we stand alone and fall.

Re: Indoctrinated

That is worrying, I myself up until the other week posted on a Tech site that was mostly US user based and on a Discussion about healthcare costs the NHS got dragged into it... let's just say I asked for ym account to be deleted when this got posted -

"Why should I pay for some fat *****'s heath care when her and her little ********* sit's on her ass eating cake all day", the second word I stared out was rhymes with Piglets only with the P replaced with a N.

While I would normally wave off that one comment as a racist, arrogant and above all idiotic statement from one user but when 20 of them all joined in agreeing with it and one or two disagreeing I left, and fast.

I think we can blame McCarthy for this mess, that man did more ongoing damage to the US than any one else I can think of.

China wants to be techno SUPERPOWER

Nights_are_Long

I am not exactly sure where I read this quote and I know for a fact I am not quoting verbatim but, "The Chinese are not brilliant innovators, they are just exceptionally good at mimicry". I would tent to agree with that I am not saying that on a individual person to person level they are not great as at innovating, but as a nation they seem to let others do the heavy lifting then add a little extra to make what ever it is work right for them.

I am also kind of recalling something on QI, about how the early Chinese technological development stalled because they didn't discover glass and favoured ceramics.

Anyway I hope things reform in China, but some of the recent crack downs make it less likely it will happen any time soon or be pain free.

3D TV fails to excite, gesture UIs to flop: analyst

Nights_are_Long

The glasses are the main barrier to adoption, people want to plonk down in front of the box pick up the remote and enjoy watching the TV, they don't want to put on a special set of glasses to do so.

If they are able to get the 3D experience without the glasses and it's decent quality it could take off but in-till the goggles go by by this wont be a success.

BYOD = Bean Counter Heaven.

Let's be honest the whole idea of BYOD is lead by bean counters who see IT as a nasty regular overhead, anything they can do to reduce that cost will be pushed hard.

It's only a matter of time till the first serious Data breach in a BYOD environment due to a compromised machine and the user will be lambasted in the press for "lax security practices" buy the employer looking to weasel out of responsibility.

.eu is a Euro domain, for Euro people - top legal bod

Nights_are_Long
Alert

It's already happend.

Look lets be honest, .com an .net are treated by the US are there TLD's, and with this massive fragmentation of the internet thats going to happen a .eu TLD open to EU owned companies makes sense.

Hell I am considering moving my TLD's from .com to .co.uk and .eu one is about 8 years old and is a simple blog with about 3 regulars, one is a site I take care of for a friend who is a photographer (both are .com's) two are .net one is a joke site I own intended as a joke for a few friends who are in on the joke and the other is another joke for work about the weekly kebab night I registered last year, the last one is a .co.uk I got for a couple of quid that's redirected to a .com.

Not a vastly huge domain collection but I am personally worried that I may post something that will annoy some one and my non commercial content an domain might be ceased by the US government (also don't help I am hosting with a US based company on a eu server). As such I am considering the TLD move as I dont want to piss off the 3rd most temperamental government in the world.

Apple antagonist Proview unveils its own iPad

Nights_are_Long
WTF?

IP vs Brand.

To be honest I think this is more a case of Apple saying "Well we own the i... Branding and we have used the iPad as part of our over all product which preexists prior to this trade marks inception ergo we have not intentionally infringed on a trade mark"

Having said that I still think apple should say "Opp's our bad" and pay them off to use it, but sadly that is not the apple way, but I feel that this little pseudo iMac would lend credence to Apple counter suing them over IP infringement as the original iMac for it's time was a damned unusual design that looked good.

Either way the whole IP war has just got silly, seriously how can a physical gesture be trade marked or patented, the TV my folks had till I was 12 used a sliding motion to raise and lower the volume and that was a Toshiba are they going to try and pwn apple over it?

Sinofsky shows off Windows 8 on ARM and Office15

Nights_are_Long
FAIL

I don't see this working well for a whole load of reasons.

I am guessing this is a way for MS to sell more locked in to the device software i.e. get them with the arm then they wont move because it would take to much time / investment to move to another vendor, then MS will also control the upgrade time line for a lot of places, "want office 100? Sure wait your on the arm version arnt you right you will need to upgrade most of your workstations to the newer model" etc.

Not to mention this will hobble a lot of systems, we saw it with the netbook fad a few years back cheep low powered systems that sell for the £200 mark that work fine for about a month then people complain about them being slow, or to small, and that badly made they make a sand castle at high tide look positively robust.

I don't see how this is going to end well for MS,.

Facebook sheds light on Nokia's Lumia sales

I have said it before.

... and will say it again, Win mobile has never been a success before why did people have high hopes for it this time?

I freely admit I don't own or use windows mobile now but in the past I have and wasn't impressed, and reading the reviews of win7 mobile I am even less impressed.

Just as a aside - I am no fan of embedded apps you can't remove, Games, Facebonk, twitter etc just annoy me and put me off the phone. I would rather have a phone shipped to me with a stock clean OS that I can tweak to my liking with applications I use. Then again what am I saying hardware OEM's have always bundled crap with there hardware.
