Re: 'most modern cars will struggle to reach'

Actually, already planned on plumbing a Chevy 350 with a 5 speed trans in there with a carb and ripping out most of the electronics when the 2.9l dies. Nag doesn't have electric windows or navigation, don't use cruise control (vacuum cruise control is available if wanted). Airbag and antilocks (hate the bastards anyway) may be challenging.

I do want to see 500k miles on this engine - this was my first (and last) brand new vehicle purchase. You're not kidding though, I get looks sometimes at the tire place when they find out how long I've had it - I'm the exception evidently, not the rule.

404

Re: 'most modern cars will struggle to reach'

Well, I'm driving an 08 GMC Canyon with the 2.9l four-banger @228k miles... but I take care of her with synthetic fluids - had her since there was 77 miles on the odometer...

OK, we admit it. Under the hood, the iPhone X is a feat of engineering

Hey Skippy, I have more than a few Android phones from different manufacturers over the years that got one or two updates over the course of the contracts.

Currently on a Moto Z Force @7.1.1, which is pretty good on updates, three this year so far.

My reason for believing unions can go suck a bag of dicks

Back in the eighties, I was a heavy equipment operator working on a 15 mile section of the Central Arizona Project (CAP - brought Colorado River water down to Tucson). Good money, all the OT I could handle, and we were nearing the end of the our section. Company I was working for lost the next bid round and another company got the next 15 mile section, so I went to visit their office and was told to go see Mr. Pretentious Asshole, an equipment crew supervisor in the field. I located him and gave him my resume/inquired about a job.

That sonuvabitch looked me up and down like I was a bug and said 'I ain't having no fucking scabs on my fucking jobsite, you just go on home, scab.'

Cue incredulous surprise at an attack from an unexpected direction. I left his fucking jobsite, drove home, and sat down in front of the tv before I got mad. I didn't even know they were union, not a real issue since Arizona is a right to work state (good and bad, I'm ok with it). This was the BI era (Before Internet) but we had the Yellow Page Phone Book, with the government phone number blue pages - I let my fingers do the walking and ended up at the Arizona Attorney General's office. They didn't take kindly to some Eastern construction company breaking Arizona law and THEY made some phone calls - I'm winning, not a familiar place.

Fucking company called me up the next day and made me the offer they were legally held liable for - For the princely sum of 1500 1980's dollars, I would have the honor of becoming an Official dues paying Union member and be placed of the bottom of the jobs list. I would be there, working my way up the list by not working, for 3-5 years before I actually got a job.

This is why I believe unions, as a whole, can go suck a bag of dicks.

Amazon just delivered a Samsung 512GB PRO SSD with a radiator cap, upper radiator hose, and a thermostat for a 1999 Ford Explorer in the same box with zero bubblewrap, peanuts, or those big airbag packaging to my office this past Tuesday. I didn't put them on the same order (the SSD carrier adapter showed up the day before with lots of bubblewrap).

Re: Today has been the 53rd day since my last Camel

Truck: Bought it new in 2008, have 223k miles thus far, keeping it forever. I'll strip the interior to metal if I have to ;)

Mixing my own: I'm still nailing down the flavors I like - tend to favor fruit over dessert flavors. I plan on going that route in the near future.

Why anyone would want a tobacco flavored vape is beyond me, didn't smoke for the taste, but for the effect. Settled me down in high stress situations (started when I was 18 in the Army). What I've observed with vaping is that it satisfies the hand-to-mouth fidgeting as well as getting that calming nicotine hit - something that the gums, patches, Chantix stop-smoking methods don't address.

Polonium: Nope. Don't want to know. I'm good, thank you.

404

Today has been the 53rd day since my last Camel

After 35 years of smoking, the only method that has worked is vaping. Tried Chantix, patches, and gum - vaping is what does it for me. I use a Baby Alien AL85 mod/3ml Baby Beast tank with various flavors at 6mg nicotine and just noted that when I started, I was using 9ml ejuice, now I'm only using 6ml a day.

I'm breathing better, finally stopped hacking in the morning, and is a much cheaper habit I expect to drop in the future. Biggest con has been that I noticed after smoking for 8 years in my truck, it smells pretty nasty from the cig tobacco smoke - I'm three bottles of Fabreez in... might replace interior.
