Is there a link to the report anywhere?

I came across a link to the June 25 report from Mulliner and Miller which reported this vulnerability in iPhone OS 2.2 and 2.2.1. The report mentions crashing vulnerabilities in the iPhone OS and Android. There's no mention of OS 3.0 in it, probably as they hadn't had a chance to test it.

I'd be interested to see what else they've found in the past few weeks and what the full details of it are.

This isn't end-users filing lawsuits ; this is companies doing so because the iPhone is wildly popular, and they want a piece of the action. If the iPhone were a failure, you can bet these guys wouldn't give a toss.

The majority of iPhone users already don't give a toss because they either a) don't know or b) don't care.

I rather like the redesign ; it's not radically different to the old site, and feels a bit cleaner. One or two minor quibbles aside (fix the anti-aliasing on that masthead!), it's gone very well indeed.

Really, who gives a toss?

It's a peculiar sort of person that takes delight or disdain in where a computer company ranks in sales. Rather than care about the quality of machines, or software, or end-user support, people get all hyped up over numbers as if they were some sort of sports score?

FFS, I couldn't care less whether my computer of choice is enjoyed by everyone on the planet or whether I'm the sole user - what matters is whether it works for me, and works well.

You could have just navigated your iPhone to http://www.jailbreakme.com, which would automatically break open and install the Installer software on your phone ; I did so with my iPod touch, and it was done in minutes with no faffing around.

Nobody's claiming the iPhone's the first smart phone, so nice strawman there. Of course one could buy a competing device, and nobody's forcing anybody to buy an iPhone, but some of us have used all of the devices you've named and have found the iPhone the nicest. All you "features beat everything else" nerdlingers forget that user experience is paramount, so whilst you bleat on about the lack of GPS or 3G or whatnot, the rest of us prefer a device that's easy to use, nice on the eye, doesn't bulge our pockets, and doesn't drop wireless connections / freeze on videos / require constant restarting.

Horses for courses ; don't make the mistake of assuming everybody is a nobend who doesn't know what they're missing out on. A lot of us know exactly what we're missing out on.

Apple should just...

Apple should just purchase the rights to Nullriver's Installer, which makes installing and updating applications on the iPhone / iPod touch so laughably simple and Mac-like.

Jiggy

For those who aren't so much into hardcore programming, you might also like to check out "Jiggy", which is a Javascript application development environment for the iPhone and iPod touch.

Once installed on your device, you can start programming real Springboard-driven applications in Javascript, with access to a variety of toolchains. Programming can be done through a web browser. It can allow those without so much proper-language experience a chance to make simple little applications for their own use.

I can't figure out which is funnier ; Safari's craptacular beta performance, or the orgasmic over-reaction from people looking for a reason to complain about Apple.

You can report feedback on Safari in the help menu - "Report Bugs to Apple..."

I've been giving Safari a bit of a bash on a Windows XP SP2 machine here at werk, and it seems to run OK. No crashes, pages render pretty well. There's some interface bugs, but nothing like the problems others have experienced. Lucky me.
