So when can you get in the first self-driving car? GM says 2019. Mobileye says 2021. Waymo says 2018 – yes, this year

Re: Just Thinking Out Loud

I must say i've had excellent service from BT. Went to Vispa for a while and then returned to BT. Even managed to get BT to replace phone line from pole to house as it was an old 2wire thing with the shielding hanging off. Solid FTTC (70/18 down/up) and reliable uptime. I work from home 100% too.

I had the UC 3100 for a while. It looked a bit like the tracker watch Newt was given by Ripley in Aliens therefore I loved it.

It was pretty rubbish as a data watch but i never got bored of the 'miracle' of being able to type onto my watch screen from a detachable keyboard.

Reg reader rattles tin for GoPro camera 'Stubilizer'

7-zark-7

Great idea but not sure about using for PG.

I don't fancy getting my paraglider lines caught up in that lot. GoPro bad enough for line snagging risk factor.

Also, from a pg point of view, if you're trying to get perfect smooth shots from a helmet cam then you're probably not keeping a good enough lookout all around you.

I'm sure these would be brilliant for other activities though. Ones without strings and necks involved.

Re: Design question

What is the plan for attaching to a helmet? Is there a weak link designed in? Coming from a paragliding background, the gopro is really a 'line catcher' and an accident waiting to happen. See the vimeo link for an example http://vimeo.com/81812852

Contour cameras at least have a weak link design with their rail system which seems to work quite well.

Well done for getting this project this far along.

Go

No idea if this would work but.......

I may be missing the ability of NFC tags but going back to a previous topic of robo mowers. What if you stuck(buried just below surface) NFC's all over your lawn and logged the location of each tag. You could use either gps although domestic gps is probably not accurate enough or just manually mow the lawn once so the mower knows which tags are near edges or middle of the lawn etc.

Once the mower knows which tags are where relative to your lawn area, it will always know where it is. Joining the NFC 'dots' on the lawn, the mower could navigate its way back to any point for charging, emptying etc.

Midwinter

Apart from CC which i loved I also fondly remember Midwinter on my Amiga. The picture and description on the box really piqued my interest.

One feature of Midwinter i remember being impressed by was the water effect. It had moving polygon waves at the shoreline. It was the first time i had seen animated water instead of a blue coloured block to represent water.

I'm currently struggling with the CC reboot. To me it still has the feel of the old CC (good) with pretty good light and water effects. Its just a shame about the walrus routing on land and the poorly realised on-foot sections of the game.

Anyway, thanks to the efforts of Mike Singleton I have fond memories of early gaming.

Re: no thanks

There are quite a few potential customers out there that hardly use their phones for voice but email/netflix/fb/internet; they can't justify buying a separate tablet type device due to cost; Its bigger than a phone but a small enough tablet to put in your pocket. I can see the appeal.

Also some people are giants. I work with one such behemoth and this will appear normal sized in his shovel like hands.

Can someone tell me how the pen is kept in place and whether the mechanism will wear to the point of uselessness over a 2 year contract?

Re: System storage???

Totally agree. My wife had the Wildfire S and while she loved the size, the storage left for apps was tiny. I think there were around 20 apps installed, perhaps less. Even shoving everything onto the SD card wasn't enough. Eventually the thing had to go as there was no space left to complete app updates.

Storage then became a make or break decision in buying the replacement phone so having that info listed here would be useful to potential buyers.

Good budget option

My wife bought the wildfire S to replace her HTC legend.

Well made phone and feels really solid. Great 2g/3g/wi-fi reception compared with the legend with pretty good call quality. The Wildfire S seems to have roughly the same radio performance as my HTC Desire.

Processor speed is respectable just dont plan on using live wallpapers. These kill the framerate not surprisingly.

Welcome

Newquay........Cornwall?

I think you'll find Cornwall divorced Newquay in around 1995 citing irreconcilable differences. Newquay still denies any problem with the relationship and insists it is still "as Cornish as ever."

The rest of Cornwall disagrees saying, "We used to get on so well with Newquay. It was beautiful, funny and charming, but things just change. Now it has really dumbed down and hangs around with a different crowd. Imagine having Jeremy Kyle as a neighbour and he is shouting in your face.........for ever. You can understand why we divorced."

The rest of the county is currently considering court action against the north coastal town banning it from ever getting in contact again.

Relationship counsellors have set up blind dates between Essex and the estranged sea-side town. Essex was keen and thought Newquay was 'a good laugh' but Newquay just wants to be with Cornwall dispite all objections.
