Don't know about anyone else, but when I've purged old data from the current system the last I do before I punch the button is to take a full backup, just in case things go wrong- seems like the kind of basic precaution anyone would have scribbled down in the CAB request.
And yet 'Management' will throw truck loads of money at these people rather than listen to the in-house advice. Show me a Consultancy that doesn't employ people with zero experience (but with a degree) and then trot along and tell you that they are worth £750 a day as "Junior Consultants", oh, and could you show them what to do as the Principle Consultant is busy on another job. There was a time when Consultants actually knew their stuff.
A pity we don't get to find out what axe he had to grind, that would be more interesting. I worked at a big City firm for 5 years, when I left (time to move on) I had to remove myself from the systems because they were not smart enough to know where all my accounts were. Luckily for them I didn't have any axes to grind ;-)
Fool! How come they never get rid of the extremely expensive Execs? Contrary to (their) popular belief, they don't create new business, they just give yes\ no answers to the options the workers bring to them. Is the Exec going to take that Sales or Support call- didn't think so. I can say that we stopped doing business with DXC not because of the quality of the staff, but because every quarter there were less and less of them to work with.
What's that Officer, I was doing 40 in a 30 zone... maybe I was, but I was having a philosophical discussion with this stranger I picked up along the way about the Pros and Cons of a liberal society, so surely that means it was OK, because I wasn't hurting anyone as I sped along? What do you mean the law is the law...

When I did my CISSP exam (many moons ago), there was a guy who came in and did the exam in less than 2 hours, rumor had it he had just read the book(s) and sat the exam. I've certainly met plenty of Microsoft and Cisco certified people who have never even seen a live network before they earned their merit badge. Maybe 'Mr Robot' does exist, if so, 50K seems a pretty decent starting figure for such talent.
Nokia was 80% of the sales of Windows Phone. But Nokia really wanted to go Android with the new Lumia, so MS risked losing that and their share of the smart phone market, so they had to buy Nokia; they didn't have to screw it up so royally.
Nokia reported a 17 percent drop in full-year net sales in 2013 to 12.7 billion euros ($17.3 billion). However, net sales came in at 3.5 billion euros in the fourth quarter, up 18 percent on the same quarter a year before. Profits were made by year end ($585 million profit in Q4 on $10.73 billion in revenue), coming after 18 months of loss- overall sales figures had been declining since 2011.
Microsoft had been have a rough time aboard the good ship Windows (inc Mobile), with leaks everywhere below the sales water line. Nokia's raft was seriously burnt on sales\ profits, and alas, they made the choice to jump ship to M$ completely.

If only MS actually warns you before doing the major updates, you know, maybe "please temporarily uninstall your AV Product". So far MS updates has killed my system 3 times, to say I have a robust backup regime would be an understatement! I assume MS update will kill the system at some point and backup accordingly.
I also find that MS treats restores in a very iffy manner now, and this is recent (2018) not sure if there is some hidden blocks written or something to do with blocking hijack software, but something under the hood has changed and my original method of having a backup SSD with the LNG image (boot from LNG and restore borked disk) no longer works properly, so now I'm reduced to USB boot disk for the restore of borked... oh MS, why do you keep screwing things up?
I'm sure some young Apple Exec thought this would be a bold new idea- make our own CPUs! Then in 20 years time some other Exec will suggest they outsource to Intel- the circle of life continues and compiler compiles more buggy code.
I remember being called to a data centre in Scotland, for a large bank based there (hint), to investigate why the AAA system wasn't working reliably. Walked into their DC and it was so hot I had to take my jacket and tie off just to walk around... kind of obvious what the problem was. This state of affairs had also been created by the "cost savings".
As someone working for another national company that did this, I can say that service has plummeted and costs has risen indirectly. What I mean is that the powers-that-be thought the outsource was all encompassing (cap on costs), but guess what, it's not. And boy are the outsourcers taking in the extra money in the form of "not in the contract" response.
Congratulations Beeb Management, you've just lit the fuse on your own demise, but you don't care, because you're going to award yourselves big fat bonus for being "clever".
As an IT Manager I interview a reasonable amount, I try to keep the questions open or practical. I had one interviewee whose answer to every technical question was "I'd Google it". It's not a bad answer, but it was the only given to several questions designed to show me how much he knew (or didn’t know). Anyway, after the 3rd repeat answer I did ask him the obvious question- "what would you do if the company internet went down?" to which the answer came "I'd Google it". Suffice as to say he didn't get the job.
I run Win7 + Win7 multi-boot disk using Paragon as my backup and mulit-boot. Upgraded one of the Win7 to Win10 without issue (2011 bios). Tested Paragon and mulit-boot still worked. Ran the Win10 clean up, still good, left it 5 days to make sure nothing weird fails. Then Multi-boot stops working at start up.... then Win10 refuses to run Paragon Backup - not an error, Win10 says I'm not allowed to run it any more (full stop). I de-installed Paragon from Win10 (the only option that still works for that proggie), then I use Paragon Emergency boot disk to re-activate the other Win7 partition whaich also has Paragon, which then allows me to re-install the multi-boot options to the mbr.
In summary: Win10 decided it didn't like Paragon. What annoyed me was there was no prior warning, it deliberately stopped the proggie from working many days after upgrade. That is a damn worrying situation to be in, what if it wasn't a utility, what if it was something really important?
