As NSA buys up Americans' browser records, Uncle Sam is asked to simply knock it off

oldcomputerguy

They have been doing this for a while

The US built a data center in the desert that supposedly captures ALL cell phone data, and EVERYTHING on the internet a while back. This is from 2012.

You just need more hard drives.

IBM sued again by its own sales staff: IT giant accused of going back on commission payments promise

oldcomputerguy

Pay 'em what they are worth !

I never understood this. If a sales person earns $1 million in commissions, how much added revenue did the company get? $100 million? I would kiss the sales peoples feet and honor them as rock stars. If they are that good, why is there any limit on how much they earn? If they earned $100 million in commissions, but brought in $1 billion in revenue, holy moly!!!! What's wrong with these companies ! What IBM is doing is telling their sales force to hit the MINIMUM targets. That's just plain stupid. This is from a company that is slowly dying. Cheat the sales force to hit a quarterly targets to please investors. I would not trust IBM to honor any contract with this nonsense going on.

Leaked print spooler exploit lets Windows users remotely execute code as system on your domain controller

oldcomputerguy

Done way more than you think

Wow, Microsoft needs to fix this ASAP. I hate to tell you guys this, but about every small business running a server does this. That server will be the DC, and the File and Print server. It will likely be an application server too. If they are lucky, they will have enough money for a second DC for redundancy. And BTW, GPO is set to allow users to install printers. Why they hell does a Domain admin need to add printers for each user? Scream, blame, laugh all you want. Most small businesses with Domains are running off one or two servers. There's no full time admin. That's it. No Mo' money .... Remember SBS?. It would do ALL roles including Exchange on one box. Just sayin' ...... And now they want us to just turn off print services? Oh, that will go over well ...... Not gonna happen. M$, where's the fix?

FCC douses America's net neutrality in gas, tosses over a lit match

oldcomputerguy

He's not there to protect us

Ajit Pai and Trumps other appointees are not there to protect the public. They have one mission - to destroy the departments they are in charge of. Pai does not think the FCC should be in business at all. The same with the head of the Consumer Protection Agency, Mick Mulvaney. Even Rick Perry wanted to eliminate the the Department of Energy he is in charge of, until he found out that they are in charge of our nukes. This government is all about power to the rich and corporations and screw everyone else. Pai has said he wanted to wipe out net neutrality before he even got the job. He did not listen to anyone. He simply hit the kill switch as he always said he would.

NSA takes one-two punch to the face

oldcomputerguy

No Secret here

The fact that the NSA is collecting EVERYTHING we do on phones and the internet was publicly documented years ago. The article is still up. Here ya go: https://www.wired.com/2012/03/ff_nsadatacenter/

Robo-warship sub hunter: Free DARPA crowdsauce game

oldcomputerguy
FAIL

Not Fun

Downloaded. Tried it. I have no problems giving the data to DARPA. Clever idea collecting data from players. Low cost R&D ! The problem is - it's no fun. This is from some one that played 688 Attack Sub for days and loved that game. This has a 57 page manual written for nuclear physicists. Bottom line is that it's like watching paint dry. Does not look like you ever get to kill anything <yawn>. Nice idea DARPA. Try again.
