OH MY GOD!

No, really it looks pretty good - where is that give-a-way HP tablet anyway? - however just purchased an Acer Iconia Tab last night and haven't gotten over the giggles yet. Finally priced a bit more sane @$399 as of yesterday. Oh and fondleslab is right - very sexy lol.

I have tried creating a spaghetti monster with pasta, cooked and uncooked - it just falls apart during takeoff or would kill/injure my legonauts upon return to earth!

Evidently my skills are lacking or faith not intense enough... Perhaps this is a job for the Iberian Space Administration? Proving the existence to the Flying Spaghetti Monster would seem to be a priority mission for the intrepid white-coated engineers from the ISA.

A FSM returning from orbit would fill the tables at the Buca di Fagachini Italian restaurant after the Happy FSM Hour service. Authentic Italian party poppers anyone?

Roundup sucks

Go to any farmer's co-op and buy 24-4-D - yeah sure it's in an unmarked jug with MSDS sheets attached and no advertising of any sort, but will kill anything that grows in your gravel driveway or anywhere else you want moonscape. Good stuff, has agent orange in it and just be careful getting it on you while filling up your sprayer - burns just a bit. About $40 for 2.5 gallons.

The US Federal Government

Does not consider Americans to be citizens The US Dept of Education bought shotguns a last year... What, pray tell, do they need weapons for? Drones for local cops and toys to record the contents of your phone on a traffic stop. I got pulled over for window tint - which was fine the previous three years I've owned the truck - gave me a warning even though there are cars in the police station parking lot with darker tint than mine... Basically a fishing expedition on their part. More and more intrusion into the lives of so-called citizens. Lastly, I offer the molestations of TSA as another fine example of governmental overreach and the projection of power over the citizenry.

In other words, don't feel special.

Zombie Apocalypse

That's backup stuff - machetes are good too. Problem with your method is that you will have zombie mobs at first, thus the need for rapid fire weapons and lots of bullets. I'm set up to reload too... I have stuff like horse-pulled farm implements that can be pulled by an ATV until the gas runs out too...

Ok maybe I think too much.

Didn't think that post deserved an down-vote either, felt it was pretty light hearted in content. Just disagreed with the blanket statement, any blanket statement in fact. There are always exceptions big and small.

Getter lvl70 Druid

Blanket statements.....

I own several 'guns', yet I haven't killed anyone yet - have had them for years in fact yet I still think. I think about things all the time and have really noticed any interference. Odd, eh?

Besides, with that attitude, you're fucked when the zombie apocalypse comes... yeah, didn't think about that one, did ya?

Google bypasses admin controls with latest Chrome IE

@CD001

I paid $19.95 for Netscape 2.0 in 1995. Microsoft Internet Explorer 1.0 was a total POS installed on Windows 95 and Netscape was worth every penny. Hehe, remember back when people used ftp? When Microsoft released Internet Explorer 3.0, I was one of the first Midnight Madness downloaders (got the t-shirt to prove it lol) because it was new and free, having something different back then was exciting because you didn't have this smorgasbord of choices.... outside of the Apple Orchard that is. When MS released Windows 98, they integrated IE - side note: Windows 98SE is to Win98 was what Windows 7 is to Vista Business+ (vista home was borderline obscene).

It was then Netscape was forced to give their browser/email suite away to compete, driving them out of business. There is such a thing as karmic justice and old Bill has a lot to answer for. I positively loved Netscape, I still have install .exe's for several versions, and often skin my Firefox with a Netscape-like look. The Netscape shooting-star-N still makes me smile - Cookie Monster's eyes are staring me in the face right now... for the love of God I don't remember why...

Anyway, Remain Calm and Carry On. (I want one of those posters man)... I didn't down-vote you my friend btw, just elicited memories of long ago when the Internet was innocent and you had to ftp your data rather than email to damn thing (stupid humans!!!) 4 boot floppies for loading the cd for Win NT 4.0 (remember the video card trick when you installed a new card?), 13 floppies for Win 95, like 26 for Win98 lmao....

Getter lvl70 Druid

Had a Win7Pro machine flake out yesterday, you know, "it was fine Friday when I left" type of call. Went into safe mode and put a pre-Trendmicro version of HijackThis on it, doing my usual smart bastard 'fsck this, fsck you" removal of registry entries of the usual suspects. This thing looked like Google shiite all over it.... Rinse. Repeat, Reboot. System all better.

Just thinking about what-might-have-beens..... I am/was part of the small gathering of people (guessing ten plus/minus five lol) that wanted OS/2 Warp to succeed in a big way(IBM fail), more or less forced on to Windows (no real alternative at the time with x86 hardware), flirted for a while with Solaris/Solarisx86 (pizza boxen anyone?), migrated to SUSE Linux (German fail- sold out to Novell, who sold out/died). and ended up with Windows again instead of MacOS ($$- maco's is/was funner to say than OSX btw).

OS/2 Warp sure was sexy.... and it would have the exact same issue as Windows/OSX/Linux/Unix has - an I/O disconnect between the keyboard and the chair. 'Upgraded' Apple iMacs lock out hard drive replacement

Getter lvl70 Druid

Horseshit.

I have an AMD Athlon64 4000+(circa 2006) powered pc around here in daily use by one of my kids, in a godawful see-through case with neon lighting that I thought was cool at the time. This particular case started as an AMD Athlon 2800+ before that but other than video card upgrades and RAM addition, has happily transitioned from Windows XP, Vista Business (have to specify that - Vista Home was the MS killer), and now Windows 7 Professional x64.(*)

(*)Just as fecal matter rolls down hill, so do workstations in this house in roughly two to three year time periods. As I upgrade, everybody else gets one step better. Exceptions are video cards, RAM upgrades, and the occasional hard drive replacement to stay up with the home network. (yeah we have family CounterStrike2 LAN battles and play EverQuest together) Laptops/tablets - need before greed lol.

Getter lvl70 Druid

My Take on the Subject

This is something I have railed about privately for years is the lack of serviceability of most electronic products. People do not get them repaired, they just throw them away and replace with new because it's easier. Take flat panel televisions, for a few years there they used 85watt capacitors instead of 110watt capacitors so they burned out and wouldn't fire the actual panel up. $20 +labor part replacement and it's working better than before oddly enough. (sat in my closet for a long time because I couldn't bring myself to throw away a $700 HDTV after only two years).

How many ended up in the landfill?

How many non replaceable battery powered items end up there? How many iMacs will end up there after the HD dies and it makes more sense to purchase a new one than pony up $300-400 to send your machine to be repaired? This is not an Apple-only issue, it's rampant throughout the world. Replace rather than repair, it's going to hurt us all eventually.

Please note I am not a treehugger, this just happens to be one area where some things do not make sense to me. I have been told that Apple is ahem, green, but in what way? Manufacturing items in this way just adds to the disposal issue. I've seen people with multiple dead iPods (iPodi? What is the plural for iPod?) in drawers or boxes.. where do you think they will go come spring cleaning time?

For some reason they don't like it when you filter out their spam. LOL Hotmail flat out refused to filter anything from the 'Windows Live Team" for a while there.

My domains have been out there for a long time and it's kinda nice to use a different email for stuff like this. It does take them a few weeks to get you, but as they say,"Where there's email, there is spam". I used to do spam defense for an ISP back in the dark ages of 33.3k-56.6k modem racks and it was/is a chore. Best results were when I blocked countries wholesale (like China) - I was never allowed to keep it because there was always ONE somebody who needed to email the blocked country.

Kindle beats Apple's closed book on choice

Getter lvl70 Druid

Mkay. Let's begin

Surveys are unscientific and can be manipulated by fanbois of any stripe to 'prove' anything they want - that would be your first argument if anyone did provide a survey so where do we go from here?

I purchased a Kindle for my wife because 1. pained me to see her reading off her BB for hours at a time. 2.The option to install Kindle software on anything I choose to (and do). 3. Amazon is more realistic on their prices and the free book selections change regularly. 4. Readability on the Kindle in bright or low light areas. 5. Competition is more expensive and/or hardware clunky.

You're being anal about the 'key factor' nonsense - it may not be The Key Factor but it's part of the equation, a very large part.

As an aside, global climate warming change is an unproven hypothesis by your definition, no surveys proving Pi = 3 by popular vote, nada.
