Euphemism for "rape by corporation."

The problem is the content providers, of course. Netflix must yield to their anachronistic demands to secure the rights to stream their content. Content providers ought to be proud that some of us are willing to go to the trouble to VPN just to see their stuff. Oh, no, they think they can wring another few pennies out of people by selectively offering that stuff. The graveyard of history is littered with the remains of companies that failed to adapt to changes in technology. Maybe MGM, Sony and the rest should start making buggy whips, for example. Idiots.
Back in the 70s, when there were several successive commercial-airline crashes, Greyhound (a large long-distance bus company operating in the U.S.) started using the slogan, "Greyhound, in touch with America." Buses sometimes crash, but at least they don't fall from the sky.
The way airlines are compressing seat pitch and charging passengers even for using the overhead baggage compartments, added to the frequency of crazed passengers and safety issues, you have to be pretty desperate to fly commercially these days. I'll keep my shoes on, thanks.
Are the problems with aircraft automation a harbinger of things to come when AI reaches maturity?
Thanks. Tried that, but for some reason it had no effect here. Chrome with Vanilla, Context Menu Search, uBlock Origin and ScriptBlock works for me. Blocking Google in uBlock only seems to affect the New Tab page. All of the other Google extensions are turned off. FF used to crash periodically; Chrome never does. Just can't find a reason to go back to FF.
Remember when Ralph Nader was threatening John Kerry's (ultimately failed) campaign in 2004? Instead of fighting Nader with better ideas, the Kerry campaign -- supported by the Democratic Party Politburo -- sued the Nader campaign to get him off the ballots in key states. The time and money Nader's campaign had to waste fighting the suits diminished his ability to present his ideas to the voters. On the Republican Party side we had the "Swift Boaters," trying to undermine Kerry's Vietnam War record. In other words, neither party gives a damn about the country, they're only interested in seizing control of it.
What gripes me is the American media's obsession with Trump. In a Sanders-Trump contest, polls suggest a Sanders win; and Clinton is also predicted to beat Trump. So why bother with Trump, if he can't win? Simply because he's a blowhard? People got degrees in journalism to tout that loser? Arrrgh. Where's some good-old anarchy when you need it?
The search box change is unacceptable and was unnecessary. Installing Classic Theme Restorer did not restore the about:config ability to restore the old drop-down menu. I liked being able to select the search engine I wanted to use, select text, and go with the search. Nothing was gained with this change. Please let us know when Mozilla wakes up and restores the old functionality. Meanwhile, there's Chrome.
See also Hannah Arendt's "The Origins of Totalitarianism." Trump has learned well. There's another bad side to his success, though. He makes the other nutjobs running for the Republican nomination look sane. Ben Carson* wouldn't stand a chance except for the excuse that "yeah, he's looney, but at least he's not Trump."

"Civil servants" like Clapper fall into thinking they're our lords and masters. The U.S. Constitution begins thus: "We the people..." We the people are the lords and masters. Jerks like Clapper are only the hired help. He should be out on his ass for good. At least.
Was executed in 2007 for corruption and "possibly tainted products." A jackable laptop is a "tainted product" IMO. If I were a Lenovo exec I'd be working on an escape plan. Maybe go to work for Adobe?
& Chrome. My laptop battery could expire before FF loads, and I'm running only uBlock Origin, NoScript, FlashBlock and Self-Destructing cookies. The Start page is all text links. Chrome is much faster loading and crashes less often.
Furthermore, now that I'm full of turkey.... why anyone would have anything to do with a company named Yahoo! has always mystified me.
DHS was a bad idea from the start. 9/11 happened in large part because the CIA and FBI didn't talk to each other. Adding another layer of bureaucracy was stupid, but you'd expect no better from G.W. DHS folded in FEMA and the Coast Guard, but left CIA and FBI to carry on their pissing contest unaffected. The post-Katrina catastrophe in New Orleans was a direct outcome of demoting FEMA into subordinate status. Fear what may happen after a larger-scale disaster, which no government agency or official "could have seen coming," even though they will.

In every major terrorist attack against the West that I can think of, we always learn that at least some of the perpetrators were "known" to some security agency. That tells me we are gathering enough data. What's needed, IMO, is action. That suggests more people in dark raincoats out watching the potential perps. Listening to phone calls and reading emails isn't enough. You want to nail them before they pick up their weapons and head out to wreak mayhem.
The KKK historically isn't about free speech. Their legacy can't be escaped. It's one thing to disparage a racial group, but the KKK has in recent past gone well beyond speech. If they want to claim they're different now, they need to rebrand themselves with a new name. Good luck with that.
As mentioned in another thread, I started here: http://www.ghacks.net/2015/04/17/how-to-remove-windows-10-upgrade-updates-in-windows-7-and-8/
and then did these Registry hacks: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-update/how-to-cancel-windows-10-upgrade-for-now/71a30488-8171-48fe-9a4d-728b4081bfd3?auth=1
So far, so good, after a few reboots and a Windows Update check (it's set to notify me of new updates, but installation is done manually).

I haven't tried the Registry hacks mentioned above because so far, Windows Update is behaving as it should. Good luck!
I'm seriously beginning to HATE Microsoft. After inadvertently installing some "optional' updates to Win 7 recently, yesterday I couldn't install newer security updates without also installing Windows 10. No way. Performing all the necessary steps to avert that, in two stages, resulted in two, more than one-hour waits while Windows "configured" my system before it would finish rebooting. If you're running 7 or 8/8.1 be verrrrry careful which updates you allow.
Dear Microsoft: Windows 7 SP1 is working fine here. Thanks but no thanks for offering to give me Windows 10. With all the wasted hours people have spent trying to dodge installing it, I'm thinking it's probably worth less than you're charging.
That wildlife will re-enter an area abandoned by humans is a no-brainer. Anyone -- like me -- who has restored natural areas knows this. The life span of wolves and the short period of time (relative to the half lives of some of the material in the ground and water) since the explosion argue against assuming there will be no negative consequences for the wildlife in future. The fact of the explosion itself, especially as it was induced by a well-educated human, in no way justifies absolute faith in the nuclear-power industry as implied in this article. Lewis, you're better than this.
More than once I've read a comment about some app being "faster" but it's been impossible to discern. Not so with uBlock, which I just installed. Only took a minute to figure out how to block those annoying head photos on Reg articles. One place I definitely see a faster load is on Pandora, which I run in Chrome (uBlock Origin on Chrome). ABP reported blocking 28 objects and Pandora took several seconds to load. With uBlock it loads way faster, and uBlock is reporting 42 objects blocked. I use FF for everything but Netflix and Pandora so I don't inadvertently close a tab while multitasking. The FF implementation is also much faster on several ad-heavy news sites I frequent. Good luck to ABP et al; they have some catching up to do.
