Re: Hang on a second
I don't believe there was any mention of gender...
think about the guy waking from a drunken stupor to be told about the show he and the big blonde swede put on last night and then being introduced to "Erik"

Providing the tour isn't compulsory they can make it as short as they like.
I showed myself round and found a member of staff to ask whenever I wanted to know something. They were all without exception knowledgeable and approachable. I also had a long chat with the owner of the Churchill collection.
Seems a shame that this corporate suit is determined to ruin everything.
Yes, I agree... the net result is that I no longer comment on apps because I don't have anything on my G+ profile and I intend it to say that way. I did delete the association with my Youtube account also. Other than that I don't really care about it, I only use gmail for "junk" and for my app purchases
Ummmm.... Mrs Abloke and I went to see the Diana Movie (It was her turn to choose the movie :/ )
To my surprise, I have to say it was a long way from the worst film I've ever seen and I have no doubt whatsoever that it was infinitely better than *anything* M.Night. Shamalaladingdong has done since "6th Sense"
Here is a synopsis of every single M.N.S movie....
It was a dark and stormy night.... the rain lashed the windows... the wind howled around the edges of the cottage, rattling the shutters.... the candles flickered in a draft.... So I stayed in by the fire with a nice cup of cocoa.
As for the topic on hand, I suspect it was a flop because on the whole people *really* don't give a stuff about the whole wiki leaks nonsense; most of us having more important things to worry about.
The dev team I work on was recently re-homed in a separate building. Our portion of the office was a huge open plan space that we barely made a dent on.... last Christmas myself and a colleague set up our scalextric for a two or three days .... it was a huge four lane digital setup that enabled up to six of us to race at any one time, the others were "marshaling"
The circuit was as close to Silverstone as we couldl make it
well I'm sure all those poor people in places like India where a lot of these call centers are based are really pleased that you're sure they have a choice.... of course teh choice is normally work here or starve but yes its certainly a choice.
Ok these calls are a PITA and they can sometimes interrupt you from doing "other stuff" but I don't feel the need to be rude to some poor schmuck who is simply trying to make a living.
They are simple to deal with, just get a phone that can have the ring tone turned off and attach it to an answering machine. Its really not that diificult but then I guess you'd lose the chance to explain to the poor bloke/blokess how much more important than them you are.
if by any chance you do find yourself on the phone to a cold call I always find, "thanks but no thanks good bye" works really well raraley if ever finding a need to abuse someone.
You lot are strange.
I absolutely loved these books... I remember many happy hours drawing maps as I played. Not being a botanist I found my stupendously blocked by the following clue..
In a previous clue I'd be told to not get lost in the woods and the path was indicated by the brush carriers hand.
the clue that had me stumped totally was
You come to a fork, the left fork has a small clump of foxgloves, the right fork has a willow.
I'm afraid I had to cheat my way out :-(
Doesn anyone remember the "Warlock of Firetop mountain" board game ? I painted all the little player tokens :D
... wristy type things.
I've never worn a wristwatch because I don't like teh feel of things on my wrists and I doubt that'll change because fruity co have an iWrist (tm)
As in all things, some people will like these things and some wont.
I'd just like to weigh in on the "twunt" versus "twat/ Cunt" debate
I think the issue here revolves around the perceived inteligence of the person being so named.
The first is a nice portmanteau but you run the risk of them not undertsanding they've been insulted, the second approach leaves very lttle room for doubt, so could be considered more effective.
Consider the following....
You sir; are a buffoon!
You sir; are a cunt! [twunt]
The first leaves room for doubt... the second none.

I think the number of downloads ia more than likely due to the fact that it was presented as just another update and as such many people will have simply updated it. It wasn't really obvious that it was really a completely different app to the one being replaced.
Luckily I knew all about it so just uninstalled the app completely and have reverted to using Friendcaster.
I control my use of facebook not the other way round.
And before all you commentards start telling me how cool you are because you don'ty use FB at all please read the following...
I don't give a fuck about wether you do or don't. FB is the best way to achieve the thing I use it for.
Hello,
The good news is... that the Register site rememerbs that I'm logged in and it remembers my username.
The bad news is it keeps showing me someone else's email address in the login box.
I am the sole user of this particular lappy so to find someone elses email address is pretty strange but its now happened several times so I thought I ought tolet someone know about it.
happy to send the erranty email address to soneone if you wanna tell me who I should send it to.

I too saw the advert in question... while I agree that an entire channel devoted to any given creed can be thought of as an "advert", I don't think religions in general run 30 seconds ads during a normal TV shows and thats exactly what this was. I can't remember what show I was watching but it wasn't even in context.
It had a slick glossy Hollywood look about it., lots of saving the planet CGI stuff... thought it was a trailer at first, was a little surprised to discover it was advertising CoS.
catchy tune though :D
There was a rather annoying contractor who had it as his ringtone and even though he was often away from his desk, he left his 'phone there and would receive many calls.
As it rang he would lope across the office... we all found it so annoying that eventually we started "dah dah"'ing the tune whenever he moved regardless of the phone; he became known as "Inspector gadget" and was entered into the minutes of meets as such too :D
I'm about 6 episodes from the end of the boxset, every episode makes my eyes feel like that bloke from Utopia's eyes must have felt like after torture blokey had finished.
sadly, I'm what's known as a completist.. I can't have half of something, its all or nothing. I started watching LOST.. the first couple of season were ok but the rest? so I've got tofinish it.
Dear oh Dear.
I've got no problem with "clever" TV . films... I like 'em but Lost is utter, utter drivel, its not even particularly good drivel, its just utter utter shite. Anyone raving about the show needs help.
it was a pretty good and entertaining film. I am the only fan of Star Trek amongst my friends and yet we all enjoyed the Star Trek movie allbeit for different reasons.
People that get as wound up about it as Greg need to work out what is missing form their lives that makes them so anal about a fukcing TV show / Movie series.
perhaps it depends upon the actual model. I bought an LG tv (LM620T) back in november last year and it has both apps and both work very well.
I had a trial with both services and have kept LoveFilm , dumped Netflix. It could be my bandwidth but the picture quality for HD content (of which there is much) is as good as the braodcast quality. They also seem to be constantly increasing the number of "collections" available.
So I've no complaints at all about the LG or Lovefilm for that.
On a side note... there have been 3 firmware updates delivered to my TV so they seem to be pretty good in that deptment as well.
Well at least you've improved your tone.... The only way I'd deal with you, based upon your CV rant, is if you had a plumb role that I was seriously interested in having.
I actually agree with most of the stuff you've written here (and in the CV one, it wasn't your advice I objected to, it was your tone) but I think there's one thing that very many recruiters / HR people forget; When they are interviewing me for a role, I am also interviewing them. Its a two way street.
wow... calm down dear.
Popular <> good in every case or even in everybodies taste
I've *always* watched Dr Who in all its forms (well OK not sylvester McCoy that would have been stupid) I've watched every "new" Dr Who and have found myself disapointed by pretty much every episode (apart from the odd one or two and I did enjoy the Ecclestone series)
The reality is, I don't find the new stuff, apart from the odd episode to be very, well, "Dr Who" , It's sci-fi yes, Dr Who No, (for me) there is too much "timey-whymy" stuff.. there is definately too much sentimentality in it but for the most unforgiveable thing is the "genral purpose, get out of everything" object that the Sonic Screwdriver has become.
I hate Lemmings!
:-|
Some 10 years after I had spent many happy hours playing Lemmings in the front room of a girl from uni I realised that I could have been "playing" with her. She being too shy to simply jump on me and me being too enraptured to notice her hints.
I found out when I bumped ino her about 10 years later... oh how we laughed.. she was bloody gorgeous as well.
Grr! ferkin' Lemmings
I'll be honest.. I'm normally a big fan of the commentardish that generally inhabit these fora but you lot are a bunch of reverse snobs.
I don't recognise something as art ergo its not art.
Down vote me as much as you like, at least I know *my* mind is open.
Whilst I don't disagree with your POV Just because you or I don't recognise it as art doesn't mean that someon else wouldn't.
At the very least I would recognise as a sculpture perhaps not to my tatse and I do tend to be somewhat sniffy of people who say things like... "this is representative of the urban filth and decay and embodies the simple truth that everywhere and everything is suscptible to the decay that makes modern life so unbearable for people without the appreciation to recognise the artists' essential mesage *sigh* their lives are the poorer for it" but it is an artform
to dismiss it as simply bollocks is probably a tad unfair, afterall I presume the current owner did in fact pay 1.1 billion dollors for it.
I agree.... the whole "Q" character was a conceit introduced by the movies anyway.. as was all the gadge..
As for "R" that was just stupid, given that "Q" was shorthand for Quartermaster.
I think Craig is an excellent bond and that the last 2 movies were superb.
Presumably we'll see the standard bits and bobs dissapear too... you'll need a proprietry charger... a proprietry SD card (memory stick, ecatly the same technology but in an exciting new shape!) .... a proprietry set of head phones... micro USB? Sony speet on micro USB , it'll have a "micro data conectivity interaction port".[tm] (which will be a micro usb port but in a funny shape) they''ll be a seperate MDCIP required tocharge the phone too.
This is the SONY way.... it'll be shiny, it'll be pretty but by god to use it you're gonna buy your bits and bobs from Sony.
