Jan 1st 1980 is the date that jumps out when I see it. Maybe I'm too young to have seen when things defaulted to 01/01/70. But feels lke I've been doing this stuff forever...

Are the keys either side of the cursor up (with logos that look bit like the electric window switches in the car) PgUp and Down? I bought a thinkpad usb keyboard to use with crappy work laptop purely because it had dedicated page up and down (and didn't fill my entire desk). None of this Fn+other key bollocks for oft used keys. Shame if they got rid of them.

Lotus cc:Mail

Some (many) years ago in the DOS days there was a problem with cc:Mail and printing. After some investigation (thanks Norton utilities disk editor!) it came down to their print driver using US letter and the printers supporting A4. Obviously their support wasn't any support. But strangely when the story made the weekly comics of the time with the question of what exactly we were getting in the European version at near 1:1 exchange rate (vs probably 2:1 commercial rates) they changed the hardcoded 'LETTER' papersize into something more appropriate for us Europeans...

Hmm, Vodafone aren't renown for doing anything well. And to 99% (my guess) of the general public, google does good enough maps.

If it wasn't for the utilities and corporates that OS has over a barrel for authorative maps of Blighty there wouldn't be much left of it. VHS vs Betamax and all that, the best isn't what people want.

It'll be better without Evans, and Matt is quite watchable though you can't help but compare with his role in Episodes. Pity about EJ, he's one of the many reasons why F1 isn't worth watching

Dumb display

Why is is that a dumb display/panel is so much more expensive than the same thing with added tuners, smart bits and assorted crap added?

I don't believe that the scale of manufacture of one vs the other makes much difference. I thought that the panels are mostly bought in and assembly is automated with lines that can change easily. Distribution costs will be the same. A few more skus on the inventory isn't going to add much either.

All my sources are separate boxes so I can chop and change. With one big mother of a remote control :) Just need a display for them for when the current one dies.

Seems like it's just a mark up for calling dumb a 'commercial' display.

shame that opentrv seems dead. No updates to website for ages now. I'd quite like something where I can do the zones in software or have the radiator in the office come on in the morning but not the evening. But not nest. I'd rather heat an empty room all evening than use nest of vipers.

crown dependencies

Wonder if this will cover crown dependencies like Isle of Man and Channel Islands. About to go to IoM and get fleeced by Manx Telecom or Sure for using UK sim.

It's not roaming very far when you can see the country your sim is from (on a good day obviously. Not when Manannan's Cloak has descended)

so in the utopia of everything magically 'just working' how does it deal with having more than 1 person in a room if their preferences are for, say, different temperatures? Do you have to tell it who's boss? A whole hierarchy of your family?

TV licensing = protection racket

They keep very quiet about how much of the fee they keep for 'administration'.

If everyone (~99.9x%) is going to have to pay the license then someone should look at cheaper ways of collecting it. Council tax is paid per household and has systems for rebates and discounts that could be applied for those who just listen to the radio. I believe that in AUS it's added to the income tax. Neither of which are perfect but do get rid of the scum at TV Licensing

How does the driver get home?

Are the buses only parked outside the drivers' homes? Hence the 10 deployed. Or is there a bus following to collect the driver and bring him/her out the next morning? We should be told. It's not just technology that makes a solution :)

XFCE not very stable

but at least there's feedback copying files. I'll put it aside and come back to it in a few weeks. Not BSOD type of fails but lots of oops something went wrong and settings getting lost/ignored. ymmv etc

too little too late

once again OS shows how out of touch it is with the world. Every freetard will use google maps and not know or care that there's anything different. If OS had opened up their chest of maps years ago, before google gave it away, they might have some market share.

openTRV?

OpenTRV was meant to give you control of each radiator TRV without tying you to some 3rd party cloud. Been waiting for a year or two for something to happen but no recent updates on the website. Oh well, I'll keep on with the Scrooge 3 jumpers, coat and hat in my study in winter to save heating the rest of the house

I'm sure it's possible to cobble something together with Pis and the like but I can't be bothered.

Three in touch is an app so I'd need a google account to download it.

Home signal is a bit of hardware that I don't need a google account for.

Been mentioned on here before that the app is shonky whereas the box just has to relay packets.

I know which I'd use.

Where's the ANT+ ? All the bike HRM, speed, cadence sensors use it.
