GitLab can proclaim diversity all it likes, but it seems to have a real problem keeping women on staff or in management

Tigra 07

Re: Katrinab

It's the other way around, which is the reason this forced diversity is so controversial.

STEM fields still don't attract enough women, because they largely don't want to work in that field. This is despite expensive recruitment campaigns in multiple Western countries, plus thousands of pounds in bribes and grants to coerce them into the subject. There's no similar push to get men into occupations where they're under represented. In the Nordic countries, where a lot of this originated, they have less female candidates in STEM fields than in the UK and US.

Does it matter?

Diversity at the expense of quality in a lot of these woke companies i suspect. Doesn't matter what colour or sex they are if they can do the job frankly.

"Personally, I would rather see a different ad every time and retain my privacy, rather than be stalked round the net by various tracking technologies"

This reminds me - Those websites that have the same exact advert multiple times all over the page...If i didn't want/need your product after seeing it once how does seeing it 15 more times further down the page as i'm trying to read something make the product more appealing? Does this actually work on anyone?

"Shutting down the Internet and throwing the economy and political landscape into chaos"

In the event of war, the economy and political landscape will be in chaos anyway. Taking out internet access too is the icing on the cake. Not saying i agree with it, but the UK probably has the same capabilities. The riots in 2010 showed that the Gov could at least interfere with phone networks and limit Whatsapp availability.

Just charge customers a token £1 a month subscription for updates and support. It's cheap for the customers, but it's a good revenue stream for the company, and will help them to justify supporting the products for longer.

No one will buy into this smart home scam unless products are supported for the long term, or until they break at least.

Re: RE: You ain't Spartacus! I'm Spartacus!

Fair point about your vision. But then, if you can't see something, it doesn't mean it's not there, and makes all your arguing about it irrelevent.

"I'd still argue that it's not the best bit of UI design, because it relies on people noticing unobvious changes."

There's other ways to get rid of the keyboard, as me and someone else has pointed out, and now you know them. I know you said your eyesight was an issue, but this is pointless to argue over as now you've learned how to hide the keyboard. Google would have been faster in future, rather than arguing.

Re: RE: You ain't Spartacus! I'm Spartacus!

"The back button isn’t exactly an obvious but of UI though"

The back button literally changes shape when the keyboard is on screen buddy. If you can't spot that then you haven't used Android. And yes, it's been like that for years.

I can't headslap any harder than this or you may hear it from your current location.

If you don't know what you're talking about and haven't used Android, then please don't spew obvious shite and act all smug. You'll just look like an idiot.

And btw, i'm aware that tapping on the screen is also another way to get rid of the keyboard.

Android has a button for this - it's the back button. Have you ever used Android?

Move over apple...

This, unlike the ipad, is quite literally a revolutionary product, as it has the new Microsoft Alphabet™, complete with two less letters. Now you can write those emails even faster!

In all seriousness though, i bet Microsoft plans to sell the missing keyboard letters as some kind of DLC, or microtransaction.

Re: @Tigra 07 - RE: Jamesit

Both potentially. A more valuable company means the shares are worth more. A bucket of cash, like apple has doesn't necessarily mean anything to shareholders, since it's beyond their reach (and should ideally go into research and development, expansion, or improving the products).
