Meltdown/Spectre fixes made AWS CPUs cry, says SolarWinds

A wha...?

“a Python worker service tier” on paravirtualized AWS instances.

I think I see the problem. Too much Rube Goldberg.

I'm running out of clever titles for FAIL

To fail at building a website is inexcusable.

Here we are 20 years on into the Internet age and bad websites are still a thing? Maybe if they stood with the basics and quit trying to see how many angels can dance on the head of pin with as much wanking frippery as they can fit into the kitchen sink, websites may be fast and usable again.

Bah, who am I kidding, gingerbread houses will always the choice of the hoi poli and engineers of all stripes will make something complicated just for job security.

The Post reports that the messaging system offers a drop-down menue two options: "'Test missile alert' and 'Missile alert'." Whoever sent the message chose the latter instead of the former, with now-well-known results.

I have used so many interfaces like this. To exact opposite commands right next to each other. Really bad design.

No wonder Marvin the robot was miserable: AI will make the rich richer – and the poor poorer

Re: Poor Poorer.

Just saw the summary the other day:

"Communism won't end capitalism. Workers who can't afford to buy things, will end capitalism."

ecofeco Silver badge

So tech support will still pay piss all?

That is to say workers in our brave new world will still have things to do, but many of them, assisting and assisted by machines, will be paid poorly while robot owners get rich.

Re: What's all the fuss about?

Th fuss is that Linux is by far the faster and more efficient of the three OSes and Mint has become the favorite because it is the least cluttered and needy.

ecofeco Silver badge

Same here. Updated fast and no issues. It took a few weeks for the FireFox update to catch up.

It *is* personally disturbing that the international public rhetoric sounds so much like that being tossed around in the mid-thirties. Are we collectively *that* ready for another global ding-dong that as soon as the surviving generations who remember the last one are almost all dead we are itching for another go?
