Why isn't digital fixing the productivity puzzle?

ecofeco Silver badge

Wots this?!

People without enough money can't support a 75% retail driven economy?

That's just crazy commie talk!

Perusing pr0nz at work? Here's a protip: Save it in a file marked 'private'

That's executive skills! I can see why he's miffed. He deserved a promotion! Where he can then ignore any reports from I.T. of network breaches.

Not even joking, am I?

"Digitized moron"

That's Pulitzer material right there.

This job Win-blows! Microsoft made me pull '75-hour weeks' in a shopping mall kiosk

ecofeco Silver badge

Re: My own (UK) experience

Sales booth is not a professional track to anything. In a mall it is therefore retail.

And 75 hours weeks is the very definition of "unreasonable", as you just stated.

Re: PMs vs overtime pay

IT needs to be unionized as well. (but more as a professional association with really good lawyers)

ecofeco Silver badge

Contrary to popular mythological fantasy, jobs do not grow on trees.

That's why.

Because they ARE forced to stay.

ecofeco Silver badge

Re: To be honest...

Sometimes. I think we're seeing an emerging trend where the term Professional is being abused to work around labour regulations.

Sometimes? It's the norm.

ecofeco Silver badge

Pay her you assholes

Professionals do not man booths except at trade shows.

MS is screwing her, just like all the Silly Valley tech companies do.

A print button? Mmkay. Let's explore WHY you need me to add that

ecofeco Silver badge

Right clicking is not intuitive to anybody outside of us techies and power users and even then there is no real consistency.

Re: To Arms My Brothers

Most of us here work in tech and our job are daily "on the line."

Is it fun? Of course not. But frankly, NO job is safe these days.

Jack in black: 12 years on, Twitter finally makes a profit from its firehose of memes and misery

ecofeco Silver badge

Re: Floater or a sinker?

NWO? You're soaking in it.

ecofeco Silver badge

And that's what it takes these days

A business no longer needs to be quickly profitable, just through enough money at it until it one day it magically is. For reasons.

Think about that the next time you contemplate starting your own. This is what you are up against. Not some one else's better business plan or product, but a bottomless war chest that can make bollocks profitable.

Re: Reg does clickbait

There are in fact arrest records of people who use this scam, although the common version has been the "it's me!" technique. This is just a higher tech version.

This is NOT some urban legend.

The "ore" scam

In Japan this is known as the "ore" (it's me!) scam.

Re: The Varsity, Palo Alto, 3PM, July 17th 1969.

The movie was never meant to be more than a matinée fare with a (then) current events relevant message.

Cheap moralizing I believe it is called with a twist ending.

In that form, it worked. The sequels sucked, but I have not seen the latest one.

ecofeco Silver badge

Re: Who doesn't like a talking monkey?

You bring political shit into a completely unrelated thread and you are still not sure?

Well the core story of the movie was that, wait for it... politicians blew up the world.

And there was political conflict among the monkeys.

Or have you not seen the actual movie?

Uh-oh! Someone hit the Kalanick button! Uber's fired CEO claims Waymo deal vindicates him

Re: Very Trump-ish

Trump is just a symptom. Or the logical end result. However you want to look it.

The only thing I'd give him credit for was pioneering modern day to-big-to-fail. Trump casino failures in the last century.

Yes, it's that bad.

About that photo

That's the famous Chinese port explosion at Taijin.

A VERY interesting bit of trivia about that port: it's very near one of China's supercomputing facilities, the National Supercomputing Center of Tianjin. Close enough that it caused some minor structural damage to the building and they had to shut the computer down for some time.

We've known this most of the last century. Mars' only reason to be colonized is to act as a base for asteroid mining.

Speedcams as used in the USA is a proven scam.

Should ISPs pay to block pirate websites? Supreme Court to decide

ecofeco Silver badge

And they STILL don't understrand how the Internet works

The PTB are truly clueless about the Internet.

You can't stop the piracy, the dark web, porn, none of it. The ability to route around obstacles was built in from the beginning. Just like the entire purpose of the PC was freedom from the mainframe.

To badly paraphrase Sir Pratchett, " a mistake every corporation has been trying to fix ever since."
