The music is nice

That band is not half bad! Makes you wish western girl groups where like them.

They actually playing musical instruments instead of just prancing around semi-naked and shaking their "thang" like western groups.

Reminds me a bit of Eurovision back in the 70s though.

PCTools (DOS)

For a moment there I thought they're were talking about PC Tools of the DOS era.

Brought a tear to my eye. Ahhh the good old days.

Anyone else thought of Vaultec?

For a moment I lost myself thinking I was walking about in the wasteland and seeing a radio tower and approaching it and finding a Vault!

I would like to have seen more pictures though.

Capsule parachutes

As I recall, one chute failed to deploy on Apollo 15 resulting in a bumpier splashdown.

Also, Mercury had an additional egress point in which the astronaut had to climb-out the top of the capsule.

I strongly recommend watching the Discovery channel documentaries MoonMachines and especially the ones about the Apollo capsule parachutes. According to the guy who designed the parachutes, they were so tightly packed that they had the density of maple wood! Another section that I really liked was about the Launch Escape System (LES) which is designed to pull the capsule in case the Saturn rocket goes kaput. This actually failed during testing (the rocket came apart) and caused LES to fire which was a verification of an actual failure.

Screw the Liberator - Need more stories like these!

As per comment, I far enjoyed the story about the export adventures. More of these please!

Sounds like Lord of War kind of thing.

Did you ever had to change flags on ships as well?

IRIX audiopanel

My favorite is on IRIX when you run the audiopanel application (mixer volume controls etc) from command line with the parameter "-spinaltap"

This makes all sliders to scale to 11!

VPN ban makes for nervy times behind Great Firewall

Consider this

Consider this, VPN to your corporate concentrator, RDP or VNC to a VM, launch browser on remote machine, visit any site you want.

How would they go about blocking that besides blocking the actual protocols? I dont know if they would go to the lengths of deep inspection of RDP/VNC traffic and then extracting HTML tags from that.

Well said, Future Shock was an amazing FPS with both internal/external locations, sewers, jumping on HK's and taking control, driving around firing laser cannons and the eerie atmosphere of a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles. The music, mechanical whirring noises of terminators around the corner, ability to enter buildings. Amazing. Even bought the expansion pack which let you board a nuclear submarine.

LEO hanky/panky

I know its been covered in the past, I know NASA officially denied it, but is it not possible that some intimate moments occured either on ISS or in Shuttle missions particuarly with the husband/wife nauts that flew some time ago. Wouldnt they want to be the first or part of an exclusive club? Maybe after these guys/gals retire an autobiography will share some more info.

Apollo 6

Actually on the last Saturn V unmanned mission, Apollo 6, two engines failed on the second stage. The rocket still made it to a lower orbit so the mission could still go on. According to the Discovery series "Moon Machines",

the investigation showed that an engine suffered a failure and shutdown. The system tried to compensate the thrust and shutdown another engine to do so while burning the rest of the engines more, however the wrong engine was shut down! The rocket started taking a more horizontal trajectory and finally limped to orbit. The cause was that the wires had been crossed and the wrong engines were wired up. The solution was to make the wires shorter so that they could only be connected on the correct engine!

Ranting Iranian TV fined £100k for shoddy interview

Maikol

So does this fine mean that Iran has to pay the UK GOV 100,000 since the station is state sponsored?

So then UK GOV can fine them again for whatever reason and receive monies?

So we've got UK imposing sanctions on Iran and then Iran paying the UK?

and on and

Its fascinating and at the same time mind boggling,if you consider that these man-made contraptions originated from Earth and will keep on going and going across the vastness of the cosmos long after everyone is gone. Imagine those who have worked and built on probes like these, hell even touched them when mounting them on their fairings, knowing that their work will outlive everyone. Every now and then I read the Sagan text on the Voyager picture to remind myself that we keep wasting our time here with wars and the ultimate quest of getting richer & richer so that we can have an extra car. That picture sure puts things into perspective.

Exhaust ports for shuttle APU

If by fin you mean the rudder, the "flames" you're mentioning (these show up in the IR image?) is probably the exhaust from the 3 shuttle APUs which have their exhaust ports right next to the root of the rudder fin (2 on the left, 1 on the right looking top down)

Probably the source of the sound as well.

Redhead companion

It seems that redhair is a spook requirement.

"It has also been reported that Metsos spent his time on the island before being arrested with an attractive, red-headed lady. The receptionist at the Atrium Zenon hotel apartments where he was initially staying said the two acted like any tourist couple, mostly going to the beach."

And in true Bond fashion, maybe there was a Russian submarine off the coast as well involving clandestine underwater intelligence exchanges. (along with obligatory scuba-spear gun fights)
