Dear Reg...
Forgive my ignorance but what are the two different logos - and why are there different ones to start with?
Also, any chance you have pictures of any of the mugs, shirts, tankards, etc?

A vacuum cleaner is fine, it will be smashed to pieces inside.
Squishing leaves a really ugly mess and the whole glass/piece of card thing is not suitable for real arachnophobes.
If it's too big to fit under a pint glass, maybe just let it HAVE the house.
Doubling the performance is (roughly) what they have done in previous upgrades and that pretty astonishing improvement is seen as just a tweak.
Aren't other tablet manufacturers in the same boat - the tablet paradigm is essentially polished now and you have to resort to gimmicks rather than innovation to have change for change's sake? The laptop paradigm stayed the same for a decade or more while hardware improved, until netbooks and ultrabooks tried to shake things up; even now the basic laptop looks like it did in 1994.
I'd prefer a system which lets me hear the dialogue comfortably without being worried about the neighbours complaining every time some music or action sequence happens. Even with a sound-bar with "clear-vox" setting it's rather annoying. I actually prefer watching TV on the iPad with a set of headphones these days!
Of course it's expensive in pure "match the basic spec".
1)Apple charge nothing for the OS so they have to make more on the hardware than other vendors
2)You are paying for the design
3)More tangibly (if you don't care about looks) you are paying for every cubic inch and gram you AREN'T getting!
I'd rather sit next to someone with an iPad than the kind of person who thinks punching the person next to them is a good idea. The people who put people off going to watch football are not the ones with tablets, but the ones who scream 4-letter tirades and throw stuff at the players.
You could drink coffee without milk in it.
Or do what my wife does and carry these around in her purse...Lactofree portions
2 espressos in one cup. Is that a bit like a double espresso?
You don't see ristretto that often but probably it's not very popular. My favourite would be espresso macchiato but that's not always available and often you'll get some frothy latte thing instead if you don't check.
Never tried BK coffee. However since coffee became "a thing" in the last 10 years, you can now actually get freshly made coffee virtually everywhere. It's rather uncommon to find places serving instant coffee these days. So while one can be snobby about which bean they use, frankly it has to be a good thing when somewhere like McD or even SubWay can sell you a cup of coffee made from actual beans!
W8 on a touch-screen is just fine. So in tablet mode it's not an issue.
And you can set it to boot to desktop. Even if you hate the start screen, I reckon I spend about 2 minutes a day using the start menu on W7, out of 8 hours work. I'm not going to get too upset by something I spend 0.4% of my time on :)
You can't get a similar laptop for half the price. That's like saying you can get a car with the same handling as a Ferrari for the half the price... the packaging matters to most people.
I do agree though that the pricing is off if you want to market it as a tablet. Competing against the MacBook Air, it looks nice. Competing against the iPad, while internally it's in a whole different league, most consumers aren't going to know that.
Yes, they should do. Except they frequently lose all interest in you as soon as you finish your food. You'd think getting the money would be important!
Walking to the till is what you do in exasperation to avoid wait for a waiter...ask for bill...wait 5 minutes...wait 5 minutes for them to come and take your money.
You can have a relaxed conversation over your meal (your snotty comments on the quality are neither here nor there) regardless. Not having to wait for a waitress to come and visit you, especially when you want to pay, would be nice. Trying to pay is the area I hate in nearly all restaurants... you feel bad walking up to the till but often when they clear away your plates they assume you don't want to pay, or ever leave!
Are e-cars getting shorter ranges rather than longer these days? It almost seems that way, akin to modern smartphones. I mean sure you buy this for nipping around but it's not a tiny city-car and £30k just to nip to Tesco is rather a lot.
With such a short range, even short trips are surely a problem because it takes so long to charge up... "sorry I can't come out tonight, I went to the bank AND the post office already"?!
I was about to say the same thing. El Reg spends a lot of time talking about how well MS is doing in this price bracket, in fact how they're only doing well in this price bracket - and has given lower-end Lumias very favourable reviews against similarly-priced Androids in the past.
