You're not wrong. QB4.5 has been a god send at times. It's simple, efficient and keeps exe's small. I still use it to this day for parsing data and translation between systems. The code is easy to follow and it has a very small footprint.
In the early 90's I wrote a 24k program in the first iteration of Visual Basic and I needed five floppy disks to send it out. Each successive programming language gets bloatier and bloatier. In many ways we've gone backwards. My machine coding days are some of my best as I look back.
Been a while since I was there, but I do recall several dungeons under Edinburgh Castle. I don't remember them being particularly 'cozy', but I'm sure thirty people could spruce them up if confined there for an extended period.
I mean, if they want the castle then give them the dank dark pits of the 13th century to truly appreciate the freedoms granted by the Magna Carta.

Had my manager once tell our VP that a $350,000 project would not work if implemented as it was. It needed changes in the $50-80K range to do what the VP promised. VP overrode the manager as it would set back the promised date the VP had given the CEO / board of directors.
Fast forward three months, project goes live and bombs. Now that the project was live, the costs to fix it doubled. Manager was blamed and subsequently fired. VP was promoted to Exec-VP and is still with the company last I heard.
China makes bad decisions all the time. Criticism of those decisions lands you in jail. This results in all government decisions being based on lies. The only question is how long it will take for the system to collapse.
Let's hope it is quickly as western democracies are already talking about filtering the Internet so they are also on the slippery slope of trying to control what their citizens see.

Given that Windows is moving to Powershell commands in a big way for most of their maintenance and configuration, criticizing Linux for terminal commands is pretty hypocritical.
If a user can't use a terminal, give them a Mac.

Collecting user data on who owns what in the e-coin space. Expect to be filling in US Gov tax forms regardless of whether you are a US citizen or not very soon. FATCA paved the way, no one objected and now US law is in effect globally.
It's also a wonderful way to collect intelligence (Name, address, phone, email, etc.) on every individual on the planet, but that's just coincidental right...

There has been a surplus of autotuned lyrics, generated by committee, which are pure noise in modern times. Lots of N, B, and MF words, but little of substance overall. There was a recent diddy about a milkshake bringing boys into a yard on the radio, but I must have misheard as that makes no sense.
Kids today have such short attention spans that a three minute track is beyond them. Watching a six second TikTok video is taxing. Let's hope they never discover the Grateful Dead 12 minute Truckin' track. It'll kill them.
Sucks to be them I suppose. All I have to console myself is Fleetwood Mac - Rumours, Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon and The Beatles - Red and Blue albums. However will I console myself with only Genesis, Rolling Stones, The Eurythmics, David Bowie, Queen and the epic Led Zeppelin to sooth my brow.
Poor me, having to live with that limited selection.

When Jobs was in charge, Apple employees were afraid to get in the same elevator as him our of fear they would lose their job on the short ride. Hardly the prophet he's made out to be today.

Nation states should keep their cotton picking mitts off our networking gear, encryption, privacy and security. No back doors, no modification of hardware and certainly no government inclusion in development "for our protection."
