We heard from users at 8:am here in NL on Friday. Took us a better part of the day to get to the bottom of it, as we were coming off of a two day power outage, low voltage and mid voltage gear had to be swapped of out facility, and were sure the printer issue was due to the power going from mains to UPS to generator, and back again when the job was done. We had a power cut years ago that borked a few JetDirect cards, so we were once bitten twice shy...
We had a proof of concept, after adding all of the cost of the needed peripherals, licensing for apps, for chromeOS itself, then tooling up to be a chrome house both on the management and usage side?? Waay more expensive than being an Apple environment, when you factor in most chromeborks are out of support in just a few years, purchase more hardware, license it. My son's school has crohn'sbooks what a pile of crap, I couldn't believe my senses when I picked one up. Landfill in a year...
With the specs listed to run windows too, you gotta be talking some big money for one unit? Plus chromeOS, plus Parallels and Windows on top of that?!
Years ago, I used to get lots of links for questionable content\jokes in email from friends or colleagues, but strangely I can't remember when I received the last one. Maybe I'm getting old? or maybe I've not forwarded or contributed and am there for not on the list anymore?
That was set to repeat each year. Nobody knows how to turn it off. The password for the account is forgotten and encrypted! That's it, they want the back door so they can log into the agenda account and turn off the agenda item repeat for encryption backdoors event... or so they say.
Can anyone recommend a device that detects when one of these google things are in operation nearby? I'm going to socially distance myself if I detect one!
"Muffled as in : Listening to the "hum" of a conversation in another room, listening to another conversation in a crowd which is also more of a "hum" rather than actual words etc etc etc"
You should check out an old film called the Conversation with Gene Hackman

A very good, old friend(it's been years) is caught in the corporate machine. Chasing his promotions, chasing retirement benefits, always on call, getting shuffled to other cities half way across the country to avoid redundancy, pity really, he is missed. I'm reminded of Bell Boy by The Who
In the past, my users were off work by 6pm or so. Before it was very late, I was free to login for 2 minutes and restart their workstations and servers in the evenings, however since people have to work from home, and care for family, they are working split shifts, and I now see users working at 11pm, and then the missus gives WFT eye because I'm working!
In another industry back in the mid 90s, a former boss\owner of the company would visit our office a few times a week. My office was small, and my assistant had to use it too. My former boss was a walking pig pen. After two minutes in the office, he would take off his coat, empty his pockets on my desk, grab a beverage and generally disrupt the office. One day he visited, and my pager was on my desk, he routinely dropped his crap everywhere, and when gathering his crap also snagged my pager! I didn't see it happen, and I didn't miss it at the end of the day, but when I got home, I felt naked! I tried calling him at home, as few people could afford mobiles then, to let him know, no answer... Fast forward to 2am, and the cops needed someone at the office( a garbage truck backed into our building), my boss paged me, I would have loved to be there when he realized that he had my pager!
I was just thinking while working from today that I visited El Reg few times than when at the office. I definately get more done on the tech side of my job when working from home, I sifted through 3500 Windows updates in a new WSUS today, last time I deployed one it took me a week because of interruptions at the office - phone calls, colleagues, users and vendors. It's so hard to refocus!
