militarization of the police in the US
What a sad thing. My dad knew lots of cops, I remember one instance of a cop talking a guy out of a situation that would be solved by gunfire these days... I once lost my shit (80s) when a Chicago cop gave me a ticket for "supposedly" running a red light. He smiled, handed me the ticket and said we can finish this in court. These days, I'm sure the outcome would be different, very different...
I have a pihole on centos7 running in VirtualBox on an ooooollllllddddd pre-unibody Macbook with no display, happily going about it's business.... El Reg never had so much white space! Tack on all the no script, facefence etc, I have a pretty clean experience on my MBA 2019 Big Sur in Brave. I see Brave is blocking 6 items here on El Reg as well!
I use a mac as my day to day workstation, I manage Windows and Linux, mostly running in VMware. Too bad there wasn't a link to sign up in the article. I'm always willing to dip my toe in to unknown waters... I've tested lots of distros, I like to keep an open mind... avoiding the garden as much as possible ;-}
+1 from another old grumpy git...
When I graduated from HS in the US, back in the early 80s, there were three computers in our school, used by the Special Education department. As far as I remember the offices had IBM selectric typewriters, and yes, I took a touch typing class, and it was probably the most valuable skill I learned in HS... I am the only guy on my team that has that skill, all others hunt and poke.
I've gotten a call to race to a D level's assistant because the printer won't, and the D level needed this document for a meeting that started 10 minutes ago... turn up to find the printer is only out of paper! I always left the area saying when your stapler is out of staples...
Yes, yes it does, I know an Apple Dev and it really is thought of as "the one who shouldn't be mentioned"... Throwing iPhone backup onto the finder was just the icing on the cake. Perhaps Finder will get the iTunes treatment and become separate better apps? Oh, wait Music sucks as bad as iTunes...
