I had a friend back in college, he came from the South Side of Chicago, gang territory. I once visited him there, he took a phone call from a *friend* and the whole thing was in code... something like pig-latin with lots of St's and be and eb's. When I asked what it was about, he said the party is at so and so's house, but his parents shouldn't know he was going...
and what about the law enforcement officers that have pulled the pin and committed suicide since? 4 or 5 more? Does that not speak volumes? As a Merkin who left back in the late 90's, I thought the political scene was bad and toxic at that time. I won't be repatriating, and may even dump my citizenship, see American taxation of ex-pats for more info.
Ta!
My father passed recently in the Colonies, leaving behind a small arsenal that my mother wanted nothing to do with, a friend of my father told us he could make all the guns go away. Or my mom could try to sell them individually, and his advice was to record the name, address, date of the transaction on paper, and both parties sign it. This was to protect my mother incase the firearms ultimately ended up being used in a crime. IT IS ALL ON PAPER!
I was flabbergasted by this at the time, how could guns be so freely traded and NOT tracked?
Now I'm at a loss
Back in May we had one of our ACs take a powder, and our service company couldn't source parts for it, nada, so they had to order a new one took 5 days for it to arrive, and 2 days to get it installed correctly. I put fans up on stands at the top of the doorways (3) to the server room, blew the hot air out, with windows open in the adjacent rooms letting cool air in along the floor. Worked OK until we had a warm day... The howling was deafening, from both me and the gear. I was screaming at facilities, they were screaming at the AC company about the SLA not being worth the paper it was printed on! The new unit went down 3 times in the next two weeks. Finally somebody who knew what they were doing was sent in, and solved the problem in about 5 minutes! Been solid ever since, touch wood!
"You are being conned. It is a Ponzi scheme and you can only exit it, if you can sucker in more people to join the scheme, and sell them your magic numbers."
If people value something, I say sell it to them. I have a Commodore Pet 2001 8-C restoration planned, it has no value to me, except the opportunity for the experience. If a collector wants to buy it off me, I'll sell and only charge them for my time. They are welcome to pay in crypto or cash or perhaps in some chickens, which will lay eggs, and later be eaten after the eggs grow into replacements or are consumed or sold.
So many unknowns here, it's really impossible to know if this was really a joke\lark\prank for white hat purposes... Comments in previous articles relating to this story here on El Reg bring up a lot of good questions.

I'm dubious...
People who whore from home should get more money... They have to pay the ISP, maybe extra now due to extra bandwidth usage? They have to pay for the extra power that the employer isn't using at the office. They have to buy their own tea or coffee...
In the end less people commuting reduces accidents.... So, you will pay me to gamble I don't get into an prang on the way to work, either in my own conveyance or on public transport? See icon!
Retirement can't come soon enough!
WFT as it's closest to the middle finger of Linus!
It will be found.... Recipe for disaster? Probably. Why would the gubbermint put their dirty laundry on the 'line' for everybody to have a hack at? Or is this just an expensive "Honeypot" Seems really fscking weird that most heavily funded org on the planet is looking for a commercial solution? Or am I missing one of the 7 layers in the burrito?
I don't think running macOS will be the problem, don't connect it with your AppleID, never, ever do that... It's that the iPhone is tied to the AppleID.
I am starting to feel as I've been maneuvered into a safe place that might not be so safe from another perspective.
75% of photos on my phone are of switch panels, cables in ceilings, broken connectors etc. about 15 % is vacation photos, I saw on with my son and a friends daughter in the swimming pool. Should I be worried? Should I off load that pic to another non-apple storage?
What a slippery slope, I'm all for protecting children, where is the better way?
I saw the original link again and had to do a double take... and revisit El Reg.

Me thinks another site beat El Reg to the headline? Or has one of El Reg writers started moonlighting?
