When I did repairs, which was not often, I didn't have time to browse people's data, but I always copied files, ya know, incase I fscked up the whole thing, and needed to restore? Not sure if this was done by the techs in question, and if it was confused with nefariously riffling though files?

I have to agree. +1. Perhaps all the good stories have been told? They are relying on reader contributions for the stories*. However, this is really just part of the vanillaization (the opposite of vandalization?) of El Reg, now known as Reg.com.
*I know I don't see some user handles in the comments any longer. Have they gone AC? Doubtful, they probably aren't visiting Reg.com and this brain drain is affecting the quality of columns like Who? Me? and On Call.

Should I have ever have been employed by Twatter (I know) I would have had the sense to make for the door when the courts said, "Sorry Elon, but you really do have to complete the purchase." I would have raided the office supplies cupboard, and emptied my desk all while my chair was spinning, on my way to the door!

Fuel prices you say... My brother bleats on about how high the gas prices are in the US and the president is to blame, no ifs ands or buts. I silently do the math for the cost of fuel here in France, and I can only laugh to myself. I'm paying nearly €10 per gallon, I think it was €2.39 per liter at the las fill up. I think there are 3.96 liters per gallon... I'm way too lazy to look up the precise conversion. TLTLIU...

Yes, El Reg has changed a lot over the past couple of years. A lot of it was just bad design and bad style changes, (most recent, up votes and down votes are now smashed to the left) I still keep coming back. A lot of the change is the subtle and surgical removal of certain aspects. Bye bye .co.uk, so long Paris we'll always have, oh never mind. What ever happened to the post pub nosh? And the crazy and fun projects like the PARIS paper plane? Yes, I remember that Lester passed away.
What has happened to the spirit of El Reg? I fear it will vanish into the pool of mediocrity. It's sad really, I have more time to read now, and less entertaining content here to read.
