The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Sir Runcible Spoon

Sir

"I spent far too much of my time playing this over and over when it came out."

I still dig it out and play it now. I must have completed it about 10 times by now, and it was only on the last time (about a year ago) that I actually discovered the elusive 'deep lure' - I always thought it was a myth!

It was also the game that my wife would happily watch me play as it was like a movie. She was always amazed at how I could immediately work out a puzzle as soon as I walked into a room, not knowing it's all part of the 'Zelda' way :)

Re: Just a thought

Well, I didn't they didn't solve a problem, I just said that at the time that's what people were saying. Draw your own parallels.

Sir Runcible Spoon

Re: Just a thought

"it solves a non-existent problem."

Didn't people say that about the whole tablet platform?

Do you have a sense of de ja vu?

Sir Runcible Spoon

Sir

"The main obstacle of Microsoft being so far behind the pack, not the product itself."

Didn't they say that about the original xbox as well?

Sir

There is an argument to be made about preventing people who are feeling depressed and vulnerable going to websites where there will be other people who encourage them off the cliff, or under the bus.

In my eyes that actually is a serious issue. Sometime people need help, not encouragement.

That said, this isn't the way to do it. Education is the best solution to this, and tell me again how much these wankers are spending on pubilc health education again? Don't they know some people are allergic to peanuts and can DIE!

@iamafish : Since you are so happy to do so, why don't you go to the police station right now and volunteer all your details, fingerprints, DNA etc., just for their records.

If people who are happy to give away their right to privacy actually did so, there would be no need for new laws to take mine away.

Office 365 turns Lotus eater

Re: I thought Lotus was dead.

Unfortunately not. I've just taken a contract at a vary large company and they run Lotus, something that I thought I'd seen the back of in the early 90's.

To be fair most of the issues I've had with it are to do with being used to the M$ way, but some little niggles just don't go away.

UK.gov's web filth block plan: Last chance to speak your brains

@AC:Re: @Lamont

"That's like saying putting the steamy books in their own shelf in the library is censorship because you have to go through a door."

No, putting a 'only 18's or over' notice on the front page is like putting it behind a door.

Unless by 'door' you mean 'in order to pass through it they need to know your name, address, age, direct debit details' etc.. Then also at a later date, this 'door' can have other things put behind it, and even have some 'secret' doors that no-one is supposed to know about, and of course every time you go through the door it is registered against your name, even if someone else goes through it using your IP details.

If you let them build the capability, they *will* abuse it. Counter-terrorism laws for dog-shit patrol anyone?

So when a member of the opposition is quoted as calling Cameron a shit sucking wind-bag, then we can take it as gospel?

Sir Runcible Spoon

Re: Sir

Thanks Jon, that's cheered me up no end. bzzzz.

As for Cameron:

If only some bright spark could develop a filter that would turn all lies on the internet into truth, I'd vote to make *that* compulsory, I wonder what Cameron would say to that?

"The social response is not something we can leave to chance." <- pass this through the 'truth' filter and you get:-

"The social response is not something we can leave to choice."

Sir Runcible Spoon

Sir

I don't have kids, I never plan to have kids. Why on Earth is it even a question that my internet feed should be filtered because of people who should be opting in to a service that they require (i.e. that they have kids and want their net feed filtered).

Pure laziness, that's all it is.

What's with down voting a question?

I wish El Reg would link your up/down votes to the voter, or at least make a comment as to why the up/down - I mean it's just confusing otherwise.

The original response was tantelising and vague, my question sought to clarify what was meant. Am I supposed to understand that asking questions can now be viewed with a negative slant? Is it personal? Is it the original poster who, realising he was wrong, is seeking to oppress any other posters who might highlight this fact? Is it a distraction technique to villify me whilst sketching over an over-zealous Apache helicopter pilot with white emulsion? Perhaps it was the mouse equiavalent of a typo? Assange calls for help from … Quakers?

Sir Runcible Spoon

T'Internet memory

from the site : http://www.thelocal.se/search.php?keywordSearch=assange

"Swedish police reports filled with graphic details of the allegations leaked onto the Internet last week.

The police documents, viewed by AFP, contain the statement of the alleged rape victim alleging that Assange forced himself on her, without wearing a condom, while she was asleep.

The woman, identified only as Miss W, said she had had consensual sex with Assange earlier in the evening and had then fallen asleep with him, only "to wake up because he has forced himself inside of her," the report said.

"'She asked immediately: are you wearing anything?' and he answered 'you'," it added. "She told him 'You better not have HIV,' and he answered 'Of course not.'"

After that, Miss W. allowed the intercourse to continue.

The faxed documents also include a forensic report on the condom used during a sexual encounter with Assange's other alleged victim, Miss A, who accused him of having deliberately broken the prophylactic.

The report says the condom had not been cut with scissors or a knife."

Neither of these women sound like they have been raped by any meaningful definition. In fact, people continuing to use the word are doing a dis-service to real rape victims everywhere.

The info above is from the police report remember.

Re: I'd like to hear more about

I can give you one example - a process so convoluted that 80% of the change raisers time is spent on navigating the multiple levels of sign-off - leaving just 20% to focus on the impact of the change.

Most of the time, if the people are good enough this is sufficient - but sometimes it isn't.

'Young people don't want to become like us', say IT pros

Sir Runcible Spoon

Sir

Saw this coming in the late 90's in the networking field when the support was commoditized. Once you de-skill the lower levels (which made it ripe for off-shoring) you lose the 'rising through the ranks' skills and experience that people of my age group have.

I have spoken to firewall engineers at large blue chip companies who don't know anything about routing - even though their firewall is a router (that came as a bit of a surprise to the guy I was talking to btw - scary).

At my age, in my industry, the 'yoof' i.e. 25-30 year olds (old enough to have an education and an experience but obviously younger than my 40) should be snapping at my heels for all the jobs I go for - but they aren't - they are completely absent.
