Not just ringworld. His 'Bigger Than Worlds' essay is worth a read too

The start menu isn't just for frequently used stuff. Its also good for organising stuff you don't need very often, but when you do need you really need. That sort stuff is best tucked out of the way, but with enough organisation you can find it even if you can't quite remember what its called. A bit like putting real stuff you use occasionally into drawers or storage boxes instead of leaving everything out on the floor or coffee table.
Nokia 6600 Fold did tap to silence incomming call too.Only turning on the accelerometer when needed is a nice touch, but I'd be more interested to know if they've solved the problem of the vibrate alert triggering the accelerometer and cancelling some incomming calls automatically (I ended up turning off vibrate since it was too weak to notice anyway).
Its a whole 1.4 mm thicker than an iPhone 4. Is that really that much? Especially when you consider that the original iPhone was 0.9mm thicker than this Nokia, the 3G thicker still at 1.6mm more than the Nokia. Its hardly 80s phone dimensions.
Now, if you were complaining about width and height, then I'd agree with you - but I'd also say the same about every modern phone - I'm still using an ancient, tiny, flipphone which does everything I want from a phone.
This does indeed sound more promising than a touchscreen on a desktop. To use a touchscreen I'd need to either get longer arms or lose most of the deskspace I gained when moving from CRT to LCD.
Unfortunately it sounds like this is something that application can optionally choose to support, not something done automatically by the operating system and translated to work with any software.

Generally yes, but alternatives have been proposed - e.g. a nuclear reactor for project pluto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Pluto). As a completly wild guess he could be talking about using a similar ramjet design but with a really big electric heater instead of the nuclear pile.
Do you really enjoy washing or something? Tinkering with the program is way to much hassle.
My machine has 5 programs, 2 of which have three temperature variations, there are two modifier buttons which can be combined with any of those programs to tweak them slightly.
From this amount of control I use a grand total of 2 different programs.
This will work alot better if we can get the makers of bacon printers to talk to bakers and agree on a standard size so that the bacon fits the bread properly. However I'm not hopeful since there still isn't agreement between bakers and toaster manufacturers about the correct size for a piece of bread.
No, not Wetherspoons.
The 'Welly' in Birmingham.
Its bar is a little too long to easily see all the pump clips. While a blackboard would work the TV does make sense since its easier to update as different beers become available during the evening (its positioned above head height for visibility since its a very popular pub).
1) Allow multiple 'metro' tablet/phone style apps to run in separate windows (preferably resizable, but fixed size would be ok)..
2) Provide a 'full-screen' button on the frame of windowed metro apps if people don't want them windowed.
3) Leave the start menu in place.and everything else alone.
