Lib Dem manifesto: Spook slapdown, ban on teen-repelling Mosquitos

Triggerfish

I know what you mean its just who is better? Choosing any of the parties is basically like choosing whether you want the pliers applied to your right knacker or your left.

I think I would have preferred it if last time we had a hung parliament.

+5 ROOTKIT OF VENGEANCE defeats forces of gaming good

Triggerfish

Re: Why is this still an issue?

Our servers, if someone was suspected cheating it meant more than one admin would have to review (that way no accusations of favouritism for our clan, or regulars on the server). But we did have a couple of pro player who liked to drop in because we had well run and decent CS servers, with low tard tolerance from admins. Watching them guys play its easy to see how they get hack accusations, they could join one side take the team to a victoy and then switch side a couple of points from said victory and bring the other team up, and it wasn't like we were bad players ourselves.

Triggerfish

Re: "Fully streamed"

One of the reasons I always liked Counterstrike you could find a server run with decent admins or run one yourself, actually made online gaming nice.

Eyes on the prize: Ten 23-24-inch monitors for under £150

Triggerfish

27"

So speaking as someone who has not got loads of cash to throw around but I would really like to upgrade his monitor from a couple of old dell office 19" jobs, anyone got any recommendations for a halfway decent reasonably cheap 27" monitor, mostly use the PC for some CAD, Photoshop and general use, don't play that many fast twitch FPS so much now, but still strategy games, thinking IPS is the way to go because of this.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

I would have thought you could refuse because they are not paying the price asked for.

Re: True poverty still exists in the UK

Whilst that may be true, having a few friends who teach in some poor areas and just going on their anecdotes it does seem some of those kids going hungry aren't exactly being properly looked after by their parents as well.

I'm not saying all of them but there's definitely other issues in deprived areas that are contributing factors for some kids.

I told BT this, must say BT's legal dept wasn't amused and works far faster than the rest of the company.

Re: Ha @codejunky

You may not like Trident, nuclear power, police, NHS or many other public services which are actually public services and serve an actual purpose.

Some will argue Trident is not necessary. What is democratic about that then that everyone has to pay?

Triggerfish

@Codejunky

Do you watch no TV or listen to no Radio in the UK then? the Beeb being the way it is, is the reason other channels in the UK at least try and give us a decent service rather than turning into American style channels.

RIP Sir Terry Pratchett: Discworld author finally gets to meet DEATH

Triggerfish

Re: Turtles all the way down

i quite enjoyed his science of the Discworld book, and I remember him turning up on a game show in a red dwarf t shirt. He was more than sufficiently geeky enough to be liked by Tech types his humour certainly seemed to work, know plenty of engineers and science types who have all of his books. Mine are the ones with Josh Kirby on the cover.

The voters hate Google. Heeeeyyyy... how about a 'Google Tax'?

Triggerfish

Re: The voters hate Google

Is it free? I'm paying taxes so they can have a nice police service guarding their buildings, and there is a nice infrastructure with clean electric supplies etc.

After all in the same way they don't have to pay taxes because that's the way the law is, they don't charge me a connection fee why should I volunteer any to them?

Anyway I don't hate Google, I dislike the bad tax laws we have though.

Re: The depressive thing about Rifkind

Actually its 67K plus 14K for being on the defence and intel committee, Plus an additional 270K from other companies like Unilever.

I can only assume the 67K job is part time to give him the time to gouge out the rest.

Triggerfish

Yes its because there is enough of them doing it that if one falls they all fall, none of them want to risk that happening. If one of them does get done (and by that I mean not falling on sword two days before retiring and becoming a board member of various companies), then it would be a bloodletting akin to the Borgias and Plantagenets getting together.

Note if you watch the video by the way Mr Rifkind (he doesn't deserve the Sir), says he actually earns no money. If that's the case whats happening to the taxes I paid in for his wages (81K he gets a bonus for being on def and intel commitee (14K) ) and expenses. Bastard.

For pity's sake, you fool! DON'T UPGRADE it will make it worse

Re: Lock Apple and MS in a room......

Anyone developing things like this, interfaces etc, should be made to sit next to the people who have to use it for a month or so and explain their changes.

"See that annoyed person using win 8 there, good I've just told them you ok'd the new interface. I'm going to lock the door now, try and ignore the baseball bat they have."

Re: Also

American science shows, if they did one showing Jenny McCarthy doing a program on vaccination and medical biology, it wouldn't be a surprise.

Triggerfish

Re: I've just watched...

Oddly enough that was pretty much their response, its apparently one of the most complained about programs ever, I'm not a UKIP support but even I watching it wondered if the scenarios the author imagined was more, what happens if the fascist party take over. They just stopped short for saying UKIP will be introducing the stazi.

Triggerfish

Yes but in a way they are kept in line by the beeb,Imagine if there was nothing like it. How long before American style scheduling and ad breaks came in to TV.

Even so I( have to say its rare I watch a science program now, they are rarely done well or teach me anything. Once David Attenborough is gone that may be the end of watchable documentaries.

Re: Aren't we paid?

Sometimes its not about it being the best ingredients, sometimes its about comfort, a lot of comfort food is not particularly posh its often things like a chip butty with some cheap white bread it more about a feeling than anything. As a Londoner in Yorkshire I will extols the virtues of pie and mash but at the same time I know most non Londoners would think it was crap low quality food, likewise I don't get pie and chips with mushy peas and pea wet .
