Universal Credit white elephant needs 'urgent breakthrough' says MP

Its never to early to declare failed projects.

Just look for this initial sign.

Its being run by the government.

Everynow and again I used to find fry and shrimp living in the filters of my fish tank and it goes a few months without cleaning, thats a cubic space about 8 litres with a flow of upto a 1000litres an hour going through it.

Layoff-happy Capita charges staff to use cutlery in canteens

Triggerfish

Re: Spare a thought....

Canteens can be run by catering firm and still subsidised, was working on a site last year, full english about £1.20 for breakfast, a big lunch was about the same and used to visit it for dinner as well, my food bills were quiet low for a coupla months. Food was adequate - occasionally pretty good, they had a load of warehouse workers emptying loads into cold storage, so getting them well fed probably was a bonus because thats a calorie using job. Unsuprisingly the canteen was well used.

Re: And the problem is?

The valuie of a company absorbing small things like this is in staff goodwill, it can often cover itself with happier staff being more productive or giving you a bit of leeway when you need someone to help out and stay a extra few minutes.

Re: For all those pedantic bastards out there....

You see I think you may be talking about the difference between descriptivist and prescriptivist grammaticists, one lot say you can play fast and loose with the rules because its about flow and context and the others say you stick rigidly to the rules no matter what.

None of them say forget how to spell words though, thats just silly.

Re: And how many people realise goldfish can easily live to 20+ years if looked after?

You must have a mellow fish in the 50 gallon. I found them to be a right pain in 3ft odd tanks, just for harrassing the fish. It will be interesting seeing two in a big tank always though about that as well but never had a tank above 100 Gal and nano tanks is they way I am going at the moment, and a small tank for Choclate Gourami, which is no way having a red tail shark in it for obv reasons. :)

Triggerfish

Re: And how many people realise goldfish can easily live to 20+ years if looked after?

I take it you have a decent sized tank, red tail sharks nice fish complete buggers in any tank under about 4ft though I've found.

Triggerfish

Re: The problem is...

Good advice, works on most fish, always chuck in a few now and again for my tanks.

Stories from dockers working at Tilbury unloading banana boats would say probably not. They used to tell me how they would all line up near the doors and open them to a warehouse full of bananas with an army of large spiders running for freedom, which they would all then proceed to hit with bits of wood.

Re: Little boxes made of ticky tacky

Well its a rather old mill workers house, and its considerably less drafty now so that may be it. But living with single panes near the peak district, I swear it felt like you could almost feel the heat seep through the window panes as well.

As for noise the dawn chorus is currently defeating my double glazing, its amazing how much volume something as small as a wren can produce.

Triggerfish

Re: Little boxes made of ticky tacky

Having lived in one of those houses myself, the best thing you can do to save money is get decent insulation. The difference in the past year from having single paned windows to good double glazed K glass ones, in a stone house is noticeable each month, especially winter.

Re: Noise?

Thanks for the replies, that's a shame. I happen to have enough bits lying around for a PC, barring a board after I killed it (Used it as an excuse to buy a whole new pc) and a case, decent components as well albeit dated. But it irks me they are sitting doing nowt when they could be put to some use.

Triggerfish

Re: Noise?

So for the system builders I have laying around, a old 775 core 2 dou, and some RAM, can that be run easily enough on a fanless solid state pc? (thinking of a quiet media centre type PC for the bedroom). Also if it needs a PSU would you need a smaller one than a standard PC PSU?

Big companies usually lessen their loss leader by making smaller suppliers suffer.

A reduced rate, or by changing the payment terms (from say 30 days to 120 days), things like that they have the purchasing power to force that on the suppliers but a change in cash flow can ruin a business.

I have seen it working with manufacturers who supply the big chains.

I upvoted you I have to agree, tax credits are definite income.

I think we have problems such as benefits traps, institutionalization of people on the dole things like that. Problem with a lot of these things is (and not sure how you easily solve this) that a broad stroke rule is applied because of general administration yet people and families, and even locations tend to be individual.

Re: Still in business .....

Quality of camera has never been a consideration. I have had to use the camera on a Galaxy S2 (considered a good camera at the time) on holiday when my beloved Canon S50 (pretty ancient by then) died, and it's shit there's no way it came even close to being as good.

Let alone the fact I spent to much time worrying about it being broken on the average day, whereas the S50 looked like it had been used for target practice.

For me the camera on a smartphone is for a quick snap when out in a pub or something, so not crap is good enough quality.

Re: mouthful of seawater? No thanks.

Its pretty common among my diving buddies who are in the water most everyday especially tropical water to take a few days off if they get a large cut it turns into a sore very fast with all of the contact with seawater at which point its often anti biotics needed to clear it.

The other habit picked up from them is to wash your ears out after each dive with fresh water, ear infections can be pretty common otherwise if you dive a lot.

However if you are just quoting Jim Rose, then you are not staying up to date with current opinion, there's plenty of people who have pointed at flaws in his arguments.

We do not know if fish have a psyche ( you are making the flaw of assuming they do not have one on the judegment of this guys ten year old research.).

Likewise fish have been known to show varying personalities pufferfish, groupers, sharks all are examples, they have even found some tool using fish, and some quite complex interactions between fish and also other species. All of which argues to some level of intelligence.

I think you need to do more research.
