JK Rowling's adult novel arrives on ebook full of FAIL

Re: £11.99 you say? Not ...

"it's such a waste when you thorw this formuleic book were it belongs ... in the garbage can"

Oh, you're back and conforming to type- you're like Obviously's older and marginally more attractive brother. I suspect that most people will be loathe to accept literary criticism from someone unable to even *spell* "formulaic".

Plonker.

Re: no thanks

"Also some people are giants. I work with one such behemoth and this will appear normal sized in his shovel like hands."

We prefer the term "differently average". Or something.

I am one such, a happy user of a dainty little Galaxy S3, and think this looks like a fantastic device.. Can't justify the upgrade right now, sadly, but it does look damn fine.

(My girlfriend used the phrase "clown shoes", and I sulked. I probably should have woken her up dressed as a clown, that'd teach her.)

Re: but don't want the phone part of it.

"Providing all this but then not allowing it to act like a phone would at best look like stinginess and 'hardware hobbling' on the part of the manufactuer, and at worst might open them to lawsuits should someone require it to make an emergency call (which all phones can do without a SIM- its part of the GSM standard)."

Nonsense. There are plenty of 3g capable tablets that don't work as normal mobiles- even though it would be hilarious to hold an iPad to your ear like a modern Dom Jolly.

Salman Rushdie hissy-fit forces Facebook name U-turn

mumm-ra

Yay

Rushdie is a slimy, pretentious twat, whose output is best employed in the construction of papier-mache clown scarers. His dreary, self-congratulatory drivel is a depressing waste of dead trees, so this story of him finding something new to squinny about pleases me greatly.

Cheers, reg.

MicroSD? Could be worse

..at least people are likely to use those/have readers, unlike bloody Memory Stick. My phone, the flash card in my DS, and a few other things use MicroSD, so I have readers kicking about.

Obviously, I'd prefer plain old SD in a camera, though.

Microsoft re-org hints at Windows and Mobile merge

What a lovely tale of ratbags stabbing each other in the back for advancement.

"It's his fault Zune/WinMo sucks"

"No it's his!"

"No, it's branding!"

Meanwhile Uncle Fester gets ever more creepy, the "Microsoft Stores" open and are used for a venue for "spontaneous" viral videos- Bing goes your marketing.

MS seems to have lost its way a little- the focus doesn't seem to be there. Preventing total meltdown by releasing Win 7 to replace the much-loved Vista was a smart and decisive move, but it's one of the few in recent memory.

Hmm

Minor Aberrations

* The network path does not reply when it needs to fragment traffic

* Network bandwidth may be low

* Network packet buffering may be excessive

Interesting, guess that their backend systems are overloaded ATM- I can get a comfortable 1.8 megs/sec to various mirror sites stuffed with Linux ISOs, rather than the 500k/sec that they're reporting.

I should try my 3g conection too, see what evil 3 are doing.. :)

Good point, well made..

...and a big grain of truth in it.

I'm just happy that I have root on my own work desktop, and our IT guys aren't arses. Most of them are tolerable people that you could stand being in a room with, and in general, they do a great job. Even the people who look after the Windows users are friendly and nearly sane. Result, I feel :)

(Sorry, that was a bit smug, wasn't it? Daniel 1 was pretty on the money though, in the general case)

Apple's 'latest creation' debuts January 27

mumm-ra

Gah, I think you just put your finger on it...

The more I think about it, the more I agree with you. Thing is, I *want* to be sold a cool new gadget right now- so I am hoping for some shiny tablet thingy.with some as yet unsuspected killer feature. I hope it's not some weaksauce crap like a multitouch IMac. Do not want, I have proper computers already thanks.

Otherwise, I fear my toy budget might have to go Cupertinowards anyhow, as my old first gen 16GB touch is too small, I get bored of having to delete stuff to fit a fair selection of Stuff I Like on there..

Damn your black heart, Steve Jobs :(

The Z88 wasn't officially a Sinclair, it was made by Cambridge- which was formed in the aftermath of the sale of Sinclair to Amstrad.
