If they popped up randomly while flicking through pages or made it take longer to fire up a book, I'd say it was a bad idea. As it is, it's a way for Amazon to make a bit more money, and a way for the end user to save money (who doesn't like saving money, despite it already being quite cheap to buy?)

Genuinely surprised though (and pleased) - It's taken a while to get them there but Sony did it in the end. Just need to start setting sights on the Wii now!!

Am I reading this right?

From what I gather they're saying most cases don't help the situation but that the iPhone 4 has a problem that "hasn't been investigated before" - this suggests they realised they needed to do further tests with the iPhone but didn't?

Add me to the list of people who will have tested this then. Successfully death-gripped with no bumper - no change in signal with the bumper on

(oh, and fwiw I can only recreate the signal dropping when intentionally wrapping my hand around the phone. Using it normally in my left hand does nothing)

So people think this is a good idea but the £6 a month offering is a bit pushy??

I know a fair few people that, if I wasn't there to help them their PCs would be in a right mess.

If they received a letter from VM telling them to download AV/Firewall etc, they wouldn't have a clue what to do.

I think £6 a month is slightly steep, but the service will be useful for a lot of people.

If all ISPs jump on this wagon, it could make a hell of a difference. Should have been done a looong time ago.

As for VMs service, I'm with the "they're great crowd" as you can probs tell. But that's because I've been with them over 3 years now and only had my Internet go down twice. Once for about an hour and the other less that 10mins, which ain't bad.

The console generally resides underneath/beside the TV, and I can't imagine many people will be leaping around there...

Still, seems a bit odd they wouldn't rectify the situation. It's been nowhere near as wide-spread as RRoD but still enough of an issue that even unaffected users are aware of the risks.

Interesting though this is, it would have been much much funnier had the new 360's started RRoD'ing :P

It does seem a bit unfair that the iPad has been compared to smartphones for browsing tbh, even on my iPhone I didn't browse the net that much but I do on my iPad.

Also strange is that the article suggests the iPad can ONLY browse the internet :S

Not knocking the BB, I've had some decent one's in the past (and one shockingly bad one, I'm looking at you Storm) but putting the BB and iPad against each other doesn't work, at all...

Yes, once you're in and reading it's very clear it's an AT&T issue, but the title should read "AT&T iPhone 4 Preorder System"

Bought mine from PC world this morning when it opened, no queue's or anything.

Actually, I think other than the dozen PC world staff and the Apple guys, I was one of two people in the store, and that person wasn't there for an iPad.

Can't believe people have been queueing so long for them when they're readily available
