Let's call it "crony capitalism" and let's enjoy the Twatter as long as we can, only some time left and he will become the World's most Presidential President ever. Remember he told us so.

Perhaps you should have said "the nearest". I have met quite a few Americans who complain about having difficulties in understanding the English some Brits produce. One could suppose those programs are made and tested in the USA. I am not impressed by this whole voice recognition thing but it's obvious it's getting better and that there are individuals who will welcome it, like say blind persons etc. Text to voice has also improved while still awful. The Joke Alert for the "the".
"Isn't it a bit early in the year to restart the English vs American debate?". No it's way too late, the majority of Europeans who emigrated to the USA never stopped over in Britain to learn "proper" English. Just get over it, nobody controls a language, it evolves where ever the wind blows and this is so true when considering the history of the English language. And with no intention to hurt, too deeply, anybody, the Americans have been able to, fairly well, get rid of the inbuilt British feature of class/school/village background identification still embedded in British. Nothing of value lost there. A bit surprised though about the quality of the English teachers sent to India. But please get over it, it's not your fault in the first place. English become important in the rest of Europe only after WWII and only because of the Americans and the fact it become the language of science pushing German and French aside.
A teacher once asked me why I like English, my response was that I like it because there is no grammar. He wasn't all that amused, a teacher after all, but with no command of any other language he had nothing to compare with. Then again try "by" at https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/by
And, by the way, note the icon.
Agree. Years ago I wrote about those AI guys who walk around the country from company to company and no matter how often you switch employer, there they come again. Same speech year after year looking smart and well payed. Perhaps that's what annoyed me, should perhaps have made more money talking about the flying car for 35 years instead of programming.
I think part of the problem is in that stupid combination of words, like dry water or cold warm water or an intelligent idiot (no I am not referring to him). Perhaps we should ask Hawking, who has some experience of both words to give us a better expression for it.
PS. RegGuy1, I think "we" decided to write internet and not Internet, Anybody with a link to solve the problem. Then again Google gives me Internet on the Wikipedia and next "How Trump's savvy army won the internet war", I will go with the "I" in the future or am I missing a "war" here.
Same with me, and I am OK with the "Hail Britannia" too, but for the sake of "facts", there are perhaps a few things one could add. The majority of people who emigrated to America came from the rest of Europe and that does not include the first wave from Spain and Portugal.
And when you Americans think about the "The Declaration of Independence" you love, and seldom read, note, no Kings, Queens or Lords. The Declaration has its background in the very French/German "Age of Enlightenment" (an intellectual movement which dominated the world of ideas in Europe in the 18th century).
And in "The Law of Nations (French: Le droit des gens) a work of political philosophy by Emerich de Vattel".
The Scot, Adam Smith joined in as a key figure in the Scottish Enlightenment and in "Book V of The Wealth of Nations", Smith comments on the low quality of instruction and the meager intellectual activity at English universities.
I would add "Hail Europe" to your comment.
And if you like to feel England as your mother country then think about it like the son who travelled Europe, decided to lave England for the Americas and told his father to keep his old system as he wanted non of it.

And when you are at it, what have you done to the "separation of church and state" you will find non of that aim in the Inauguration of Trump.
You understand a lot more when you realize that the Brits read English history as the World history, it also partly explains the Brexit vote.
@ J. R. Hartley
I don't think you meant to say "Thankfully Israel's days are numbered though." literally. Israel is run by a regime dragging the whole population towards fascism and apartheid at an accelerating speed. All because they want to keep it all. And they want to make the two state alternative go away.
We all know this, there is noway to hide it, nor is it. The UN resolution you find (all of it) on YouTube and it's worth the time. Took me about four beers. At the very end you find the Israeli regime representative with the most childish and appalling speech in that room.
The US did the right thing not to veto that resolution. Kerry's speech is appropriate too, and listen to the whole speech and not just to some snippet you find on YouTube. There are lots of both Israelis and Jews around the world who oppose this regime and its goals. They need all the support we can give them and I wish they would stand up and speak out louder. And for the rest I would hope they stopped turning a blind eye to the reality.
What else, time to wish everybody a better next year.
I haven't been able to decide what to call this 2016 year yet. Is it the "Year of the hairs", the "Year of the lying arseholes" or the "Year of the men children". So help me out.
@ Mark Simon
We had the same system in Finland too but it become more and more obvious that those 200 electors had their own agenda with all their secret meetings and what not. Since then we vote directly for the President, all political parties together and all in the television too. And why not, the President should represent the hole country after all. That a "MP" represents his constituency is an other question and understandable.
Who is that guy, born when, where, education and so forth. Using the Wikipedia you get https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RF_resonant_cavity_thruster
Interesting stuff, lots of people and countries involved but nothing about that person. And no, I am not Linkediting no more than Facebooking.
"Hey, I'm just sayin'...". Much like with Trump, I would say, Big John. You have shown great belief in the Master. You have neatly written down all his promises and now I will promote you to my personal guard of promises. You can, I think, freely report about facts and fiction on this site. Apart from that all the best for next year for you and everybody else.
"So what's the point?".
The point is that Europe did not want to fall behind in technology, that only the USA had full command of the GPS and that higher precision was needed and possible. In short, common sense and competition. We produce cars in Europe regardless of the fact that they are produced in the USA too. Even a nice and smart American like Neil deGrasse Tyson was unable to hide that he was pissed off by this competition from Europe, the same regarding CERN.
I had a relative, a married man, who around 1860 used to take his girl(s) on a ride in a cab in those happy days when a horse was pulling and the driver sat outside on the roof. Curtains, lots of space and very cosy. Jumping in, he would tell the driver (driver?) to drive around the park. Then one unhappy day he had his wife with him and the driver asked him - "around the park", sir.
What I do not know is if the driver asked it like "what, around the park" or more like "aye aye sir, around the park" or perhaps the twat knew it was his wife.
For a more bloody personal experience as a customer with a nice girl. Ending up in front of the hotel asking for my key the guy took a step back and asked me alarmed what had happened. My hand was covered in blood, I know it was damp and happy but I did not expect the blood. Well It's Friday after all.
"Sell-outs...". Well, why do I have this feeling you make it sound a bit "negative" and still it would not surprise me that much if you and so many of us have this feeling that the Muslims entering Europe should try perhaps a bit harder to integrate with "our" society. Interesting question and perhaps you have a point, but I think you are walking on thin ice without understanding it at all.
But perhaps you are still an educated Brit who doesn't think all the 50 American states were British colonies or that the majority of people who went to the Americas were Brits but people from the rest of the world and that very few stopped over in England to learn English.
What then happened to the Brits. You find Italian, Spanish and French parts in many American towns, not to mention Chinese and what not. But a British part of some town doesn't come to my mind. What happened to you and what about Australia and Canada, all British with old British culture. Hmm, is there some wistful thinking involved here. Perhaps you don't quite get it.
Sorry about that, as they say there is a lot to learn from commentards on ElReg.
But I do get now that I tried.

Could I claim "Dear child has many names" to feel less stupid.

You are mixed up with the far left and the left. The "left" we have in Europe is "very much in favour of free enterprise and individual liberty". I think you know that too very well. We have a right arm and a left arm because we have two arms. If we had three then perhaps we would have a middle arm too. People who live in a "two party" system are more mixed up and fooled by this left and right and have problems looking straight and use common sense.
Remember when Microsoft called Linux "communist", they knew some Americans would go for it, in Europe shit like that was ridiculed.
And there is this article about the PowerShell, power or not, it's not because of the name.
And what about Warren Buffett in this interview, is it left right or center or just common sense.

"what the f**k is this truth business all about?. I agree, but I assume propaganda is spinning the truth for something. Could then post-truth be about spinning the truth against something. I have a feeling this word won't survive that long.
Anybody with a list of the last fifteen "Word of the Year" words. Any "survivors".
"I come here for tech, not politico". Yes, but I think we can all agree that some rather exceptional "politico" has taken place on both sides of the pond. Some Americans claim the shit storm started with the "Brexit" while I would claim it started the moment Trump opened his mouth. Lots of loose talk and a disgusting rhetoric performed by altogether rather unpopular politicians on both "sides". Two divided people half of which feel they won and the rest who feel they lost, all hoping for the best one has to assume. What else is there to say but popcorn.
I think you should read the article again, you are alright because:
"Win 10 users can only run two security suites on their systems – Defender and one other."
But if you have for instance Avast then, as far as I understand (not using Windows), you will not be able to add Kaspersky. And I have a feeling we all know why MS has decided to do this.
"what I don't see is why this is supposed to tell us something about the state of the world".
As a scout (sea) from long ago, I will try to help you out. Take poor Cameron, when he went to Brussels to beg for special advantages (he would never allowed anybody else) he had the psychological disadvantage of knowing he represented the second richest kid on the block.
But now when Mrs May goes to Brussels next year she will find it slightly less embarrassing as she can point to France as being the second richest kid on the block.
There are an amazing amount of things, good and not so good, I have learned as a scout (on land). When I started my carrier as a helper, helping old women across the street, I eventually, as a teen, got a bit fed up, as we do. But then getting older my heart expanded and I stated to help ever younger women across the street, any street. To my great surprise I also found out that it takes women a surprising amount of years for them to learn how to say "Thank You" properly.
I hope this was of help, and read my icon.
"or give up its sovereign right to set its own tax policy". No, the big bad wolf, the EU, does not take away the sovereign rights to set tax policies. But in case you have not realized it, each time some company is playing the game, all of you will write "it's the law that is at fault", and should be mended, until somebody, like the big bad wolf, suggest something could be done about it.
In this case it's fairly obvious that the Irish government has to oppose the ruling first, even if they want the money, or not, later. Apart from that it was about an illegal state aid, again because the EU does not interfere in the tax policy in its member states, perhaps they should, perhaps it will be more possible without the UK.
Most people are fairly fed up with all the gaming of the system. Perhaps both the UK and the US governments should have got it, a bit earlier. I am totally confident that there is more intelligence within the EU, although the problems are large.
Perhaps my dear mother was right after all, and I have a tick heed as my speel chequer just doesn't react at all when i fink "Third Law of Motion" butt write "Third Law of physics" but then gets up seat with perfectly nice world's like chequer and speel.
Anybody out there with a similar mother.
Up-voted for standards. I remember some nice and cheep pillows my young wife bought. But next morning my face was deep blue as all that colour came off. Add to that toys with lead paint. Should I point out that Britain was one of the last countries in Europe to skip arsenic in paint. How damned surprised should one be if there are regulations when, on one side you have manufacturers who cheat as much as they can, and on the other side you have consumers without any ability to know what they buy or eat or take or use and so on.
What a bloody mess you Brits have made for your self for so dubious reasons.
But I agree people vote according to the information/dis-information they have and believe in, and with their "feelings". There is no need for name calling on either side. The only positive I can come up with is that it seems to me that you have started to have the discussion now you should have had before the referendum.
The reality has woke you up. And yes I suppose I refer more to the leavers but to all of you regarding the name calling.
