Help. The political process is corrupted, full of lies and state-sponsored deep fakes. Now Microsoft's to the rescue

Someone Else Silver badge

But don’t throw up your arms in despair at the corruption of the political process and the willingness of mainstream politicians to amplify lies and misinformation because here comes an information superhero, a fearless warrior, a technological defender of the truth! Yes, Microsoft has come out fighting for democracy! All is saved! We're all gonna die!

The fact of the matter is that if Jacob Blake had been white, the local Press wouldn't have spent hours going over and over the details, whipping its audience into a fury ... and the National press probably wouldn't have reported it at all, much less ad nauseam ... and not a one of the protesters would have even blinked an eye

If Jacob Blake had been white, he wouldn't have been shot in the back 7 times at close range in front of his children.

And being Marxist is anti-American how, again?

I would maintain that, as we as a nation fought a war against it, that Fascism is anti-American. But since Fascism is the Flavor of the Week in Republicon circles, it's OK now. Is that how this works? Just wanna make sure I got this right (or Right).

Well, not exactly. My 2107 Corolla's user-facing software is much better than the corresponding user-facing software on my 2017 Honda Odyssey. YMMV of course, and I have no sense about the non-user facing software on either.

That said, any car that wants to slurp, and can't be verifiably told to bugger off, is not going to find its way into my garage.

Call his bluff

"If the court does not reconsider, then in California it is hard to think that we will be able to switch our model to full-time employment quickly," he said. "So I think that Uber will shut down for a while."

Empty threat, methinks. It would cost the ride-share-flingers much more money to un-ass California than it would for them to simply give the serfs what they're due.

That said, should the fat-asses actually follow through in cutting off their noses to spite their faces, we need only remember the immortal words of one Elmer Fudd: "Good widdance to baaaad wubbish!"

IBM also did that back in the '60's. It was called PL/I (or PL/1), and when ever you screwed something up, it would oh-so-helpfully "fix" it for you, generally by making things worse than the original error, and often-as-not hiding the "fix" it made.

Notice that no one is programming in PL/1 anymore?

The law bill [PDF] is dubbed the Lawful Access to Encrypted Data Act, which uncharacteristically cannot be condensed into a pandering acronym.

Well, it they were to name it the Lawful Encrypted Access to Data (which to this trio of fools would make every bit as much sense as the original), it could be acronym-ized as the LEAD Act, which accurately describes what's between their ears.

'Course, that implies you pronounce it properly. Given that this is Congress, they would tend to mispronounce it as "leed". But that would be OK, as now both the name and the acronym describe the opposite of what the legislation will actually do. Appropriate for Congress, then.

Re: So will Tor be using Comcast for DNS? Will my VPN also start going through my ISP?

OK, so if I have explicitly set 1.1.1.1 as my DNS server, will I have to change that, or is it simply a matter of telling Firefox to just leave it alone? Or will having Comcast as my provider under this new scheme allow them to snoop it anyway?
