Yawn ... nothing to see here

WordPress site gets hacked because it wasn't updated to latest version of software.

Nice route!

I particularly liked how you continued to include the rest of his directions in the link.

Probably a good idea if you scrap his home post code from the link El Reg.

Massive study concludes: 'Global warming is real'

Global Warming is not in doubt

What 'El Reg' failed to point out in this article, is that the issue of "global warming" by the likes of Anthony Watts was never in contention.

The magnitude and causes are what skeptics question.

Watts' openly admits that the Earth is warmer now than it was 100-150 years ago. [1].

More notably, “man-made global warming” was not mentioned by BEST - and in their findings they point out explicitly that they didn’t address this issue. [2].

RE: COMPENSATION

Compensation?

From Phone Operators? From RIM?

Have a laugh.

Side note - Vodafone had a full days outage on their network and compensated no one (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2011/02/28/vodafone_outage_2/).

Not a police website?

Either northumbriapoliceauthority.org.uk is not an official police website, or someone has been a little "dishonest" in their registrant details:

Vodafone "hiding" internal information

Vodafone just banned me from their eForum for posting the internal information I posted above. They then had the cheek to email me saying:

"Hi,

We’ve removed five of your posts from our eForum today relating to the network outage.

The reason the posts were removed is because the information you’ve received is speculative and has not been confirmed. We are investigating this now and will provide more information as soon as it’s available.

It would be good if you could let us know who you received this message from although we understand if you choose not to.

Please do not re-post this information.

Thanks

eForum Team"

Event happened at 00:40, as confirmed in internal email - yet still no ETA, almost 12 hours later.

Surely the simple answer is...

Just block him from having access to their SMTP servers - rendering him unable to relay messages to Gmail users. Then they can't scan his messages. And everybody's happy.

"Everyone is desperate to ape Apple's success, but no one's learning from its mistakes"

Excuse me ... bit of a rant maybe? Lots of companies have learnt from Apple's mistakes, including Apple.

Look at the Nokia N900 for example. Copy and Paste to your hearts content. ;-) And true FULL HTML/JS browsing in FireFox. And it runs on Linux. And you have root access - so you can do what you want and install what you want, without breaking the warranty. Perfecto.

Scary, scary thoughts

Speaking also from experience, the idea of "Ghost Ships" scares the hell out of me. Once upon a time every boat kept a good look out and, as required by maritime law, would respond to any may-day calls. Now days you already have super-freighters, with perhaps no more than 10 or 12 crew, driving on auto-pilot for a large part of their journey.

They already scare me enough when sailing alone (a small sailing vessel would be almost invisible to their radar) - but at least you know there is a chance someone might be looking out, and worse-come-to-worse you can give the bridge a shout over the VHF and let them know you are there.

The idea of large, over-powered, unmanned warship, powering through the Atlantic, really will keep me awake at night when anywhere at sea from now on! I really do hope they pick up all local VHF communications and relay them back to an actual person, 24/7.
