Apple iPad sales drop by DOUBLE DIGITS in Europe

Re: Pricing

Seriously?? Sell more product?

The company has over $100 billion dollars in cash in the bank, and you think they're worrying about a *possible* dip in sales? Link: http://techcrunch.com/2012/04/24/apple-q2-earnings-apple-now-has-over-110-billion-in-cash-reserves/

I think most of the tech industries would love to achieve these figures.

Re: The worst of the best

I know it's not a film but can mention Eastenders?? I mean really, if life was as bad as this hmm.. soap shows, most (all) of the cast would have jumped on masse in front of a train (or equivalent plot device).

There, got that off my chest, do carry on :D!

Re: Megashark vs Giant Octopus

Yes, I voted for that! I watched it mostly disbelieving that my eyes could have betrayed me by letting this travesty be seen! The torture ended somewhere towards the "middle" of the film.

Perhaps these films should carry a new pre announcement warning saying:

"Warning: the following film is so bad you will want to poke out your eyes with cocktail sticks then eat them! Seriously, do not watch this film if you value your (in)sanity!"

Re: Sensible stuff

"And why shouldn't we get help from the French?"

I suspect that the issue is that with our 'great' education system we shouldn't have to? Where has all our own expertise gone? Isn't this sort of thing where we should be putting our efforts?

I would much prefer if our politicians concentrated on actually teaching the next generation(s) real, useful skills & getting the brightest of the bright into Industry, than waste time, money, and effort in pointless 'equality' drives which mean nothing. We *should* be designing & building our own stuff with pointers from other countries.

After all, we are a *1st world* country, arn't we??

"Incidently my beloved N900 has had to go back to Nokia this week under warranty, and they have said they will be replacing with an N8 - they are not even giving or offering the bloody Windows -crap things away. Why not Nokia? Ask me I might have tried it"

And that I think is the heart of the matter! Nokia stopped looking after their number one priority: THE CUSTOMER! By ignoring their customers, by being slow to bring to the market what it really needed, a competent well done OS; by p.....g of their existing customers with shoddy, ill thought out products, they are now reaping the results.

It's not magic, or particularly hard for a company like Nokia, to come up with a product(s) that people actually want to buy. And, stop p.....g over their (former) customers.

Re:So take the advice of Martin Lewis...

I rather think that's just playing a mugs game! What the energy companies (and the Government) should be doing is investing in better sources of energy such as Nuclear power.

Whilst it's 'nice' to be green etc., this doesn't help with the bills! A properly thought out policy which inludes nuclear power would mean we're not facing an energy crisis a decade down the road.

Investing in renewable sources of energy is sensible, but there are only so many wind farms and solar panels that can be built/installed. Putting pressure on manufactureres/engineers to make their electronics more efficeint in power usage, should also be part of this.

Ban the Phone!

I'm with the majority of *sensible* people here, if I've paid my money for a (expensive) ticket to watch a film I really, really, really don't want to listen to some teenager with verbal diarrhoea talk crap on their phone. BTW., it is usually teenagers, but I've noticed a growing number of adults as well.

I've always said to friends and family: if it's an emergency (fire/medical/crime) dial 999, anything else it *can* wait!! My phone its firmly switched off when inside and turned on once film is finished, for the social idiots it's called being considerate! And no, I wouldn't hand over my phone to a total stranger!!

Better, they should implement some sort of electronic blanking system which would switch of in the event of an emergency. That way the social retards would realise that they're there to watch the film!

Sadly, can't see it happening any time soon!

Government IT Failure

Costs the country billions! They should stick to whatever government do such as, er well erm, ok just whatever they do then! Leave the IT stuff to people who *know* what they're doing (and no I don't mean EDS)!

Once upon a time we actually had our own IT companies, where are they? Also, why not teach *proper* IT in schools, such as how to program and why planning/analysis & structure are so important. From what I see of *lessons* in schools, we're essentially turning out Office Drones.

This must stop! We're wasting our kids time teaching this stuff when we should be encouraging them to think. Plus, we should be using/encouraging uk companies and not giving US corps all the *taxpayers* money in the form of licensing and fees.

Don't suppose they'll listen though :(!

The key phrase is...

This quote: "The system itself is working exactly as intended," said Eric Dresselhuys, an executive vice president for Silver Spring. "The accuracy of the meters and the accuracy of the system in total is excellent."

And he's right! The intention is to increase charges in order to "Help the environment" which is, of course in these PC times, a Good Thing. The fact that the companies balance sheet (plus healthy bonuses) will be improved, is completely coincidental!

Just remember, the worst punishment that you can suffer is one that is self-inflicted! If we 'allow' the energy companies/government to install them over here; then when we're bleating about how high are bills are becoming, we'll only have ourselves to blame.

We have been warned!
