Re: Just proves Apple's legal case
" Ummm, no. It just proves that Samsung phones sell better than Apples. Probably because they are just better."
Psst! Keep this to yourself, but I think the OP might have been kidding.

Based on my last visit to the doctor, I'm inclined to think they were already being replaced by machines - androids, specifically.
It was several years ago, and towards the end of the visit, the doctor appeared to go into standby mode; he sat perfectly still, looking straight ahead of him, unblinking.
" with everything bar the sheep wanting to kill, poison, and/or eat you (and I'm not so sure about the sheep)"
Okay, so it's set in New Zealand rather than Australia, but... Black Sheep
" I also see that nowhere in any of the write-ups of this story is there mention made of the manual training the staff how to discuss and clarify the customers' requirements from a computer before taking over the conversation. Ho hum."
I'm not sure any sales people do anything like that anymore - if they ever really did in the first place. I think it was really just IT literate third parties that would-be buyers went to for advice, ie people like us.
And in an Apple store, it's even less surprising. It's not as they sell different platforms, so if you're there looking at tablets they're hardly going to weigh up your needs and recommend something by Samsung.
" Always baffled me how Apple could assert that a phone which had significantly more features than the iPhone was somehow a clone at the same time..."
Easy. They look at the better device and realise that's how good they ought to have made theirs, and then conclude *that* is what's being copied.
"On a similar note, I see in the last screenshot that in the split-screen mode the writing area is on the left. Is that configurable? Because as it stands it would mean that for right handers (ie, the majority of users) you'd be obscuring whatever you're taking notes on. If you can put the notes are on the right, I wonder if the bezel on the RHS is actually wide enough to allow you to rest your hand on it? It does seem weird to think that the bezel might be too small on a tablet, though."
My first thoughts on seeing that picture were similar - except my thinking was more along the lines of whether it can split screen in portrait mode, with the video at the top and the writing area below. This seems more logical to me because of the aspect ratios involved.
Paris, because I have it on good authority that she's made a video or two.
The problem with the isp asking if you want child/family protection on your account is that while it sounds like opting in to the censorship, behind the scenes it could still be the other way around:
Person: "I'd like internet please"
ISP: "Certainly and do you want child / family protection set up on your account?"
Person: "No thanks"
[Ticks box to include customer on the 'national register of voluntarily disclosed perverts ']
ISP: "You're good to go and if you want to change your settings you can do it online."
"Motorola are now in on the act. So those who think Google are nice people who don't sue people or try to restrict competition should think again."
I have thought again. And my thoughts were "Awww, shame, poor Apple."
Closely followed by "HA HA!" in the voice of Nelson Muntz.
" insisting that the fruity firm had timed its witnesses so that it would be able to make it through all 22 in the time allotted."
Hmm.
" insisting that the fruity firm's witnesses had rehearsed their scripts so that they would be able to make it through all 22 in the time allotted."
There. Fixed it for them.
I considered a snake at one point, but in the end I decided I didn't have enough room, so I decided to get a tarantula instead. When I got to the pet shop, though, they didn't have any - so I bought a couple of rats.
I did eventually get a tarantula, though.
And I had a German Shepherd for years, as well. I'd like one again but it's the same problem: It wouldn't be fair to have one at the moment.
"On the cat shit front, cats bury theirs"
Except when they don't.
When a friend of mine moved house several years ago, the removal men discovered a huge pile of cat shit under the trampoline in the back garden. It seems one of her cats had used it as regular toilet for a very long time. It was out of sight, but out of sight is definitely not the same as being buried.
And worse is that it was under the trampoline, on which her daughter regularly played.
At the time, she claimed not to know about it - but I've always been a bit suspicious about that, because I remembered a time, maybe a year before, when I was in her garden throwing a ball around with said daughter. The ball went under the trampoline. I was going to retrieve it, but she stopped me, suggesting we do something else.
Putting two and two together, I'm inclined to think she knew the cat was using the space under the trampoline as a toilet, and chose to ignore it.
Oh, and the removal men refused to touch the trampoline after they'd moved it and discovered what was underneath - it got left, and so did that cat shit. A nice little present for the new owners of the house.
The solution? Get a Burmese Python!
"that in itself would be "fanboi" behaviour."
Note that you can no longer use the term "fanboi".
Since Applytes copied the idea of using "fan" at the start of a word as a derogatory term to describe users of alternative platforms - specifically "fandroid" - it has officially become an Applyte innovation to do so. Using the term "fanboi" is therefore copying them, even though they weren't first to do use "fan" as a prefix.
This is why I now call them Applytes (Apple Accolytes).
"Now, does this document actually say to the engineers - "go off and copy it" - or does it say "this is where we fall short/are not as good. Go and improve our phone in those areas."
It certainly seems to be the latter, which is NOT a smoking gun."
In fact, the quote from the document highlighted in the article is completely the opposite:
"there's also the direction to "Remove the feeling that iPhone's menu icons are copied by differentiating design""
To me, that suggests that after doing the comparison, Samsung felt their device might give the impression there was copying, with the directive being to address that.
" But Amazon won't deliver to a new address unless you re-enter your credit card details. So if your account is breached, there is little hackers can do."
Well, that's some small mercy, then, given what I discovered last year:

You beat me to it. I was going to say...
"Volume production now means the Samsung Flash will be appearing in devices any month now. iPhone 5, anyone?"
Yes, at which point Apple will patent the idea of using this ultra fast Flash memory in portable devices, and accuse anyone else who uses it of copying their tech, and try to get it banned.
"what's the advice for those of us who haven't rooted our phones and thus aren't actually able to remove the "operator installed" apps."
Don't allow the Facebook app to upgrade to anything beyond the version that came with the phone - and hope it's a version that doesn't do insidious things like this.
I don't object to paying a little more for a better service - which the TiVo should be, in theory (but may not be in practice from some comments I've read).
However, as a V+ customer, I am becoming more and more convinced that they are reducing the quality of that service in order to make the TiVo offering seem better - and that's why, rather than thinking about upgrading, I'm actually thinking that it might be time to cancel.
Based on "one incident by a redneck" where it's actually two incidents in two separate stores, and involving at least three Apple employees.
If it really was just "one incident by a redneck" then that would suggest a stupid "Genius" - but that it's more than one incident in more than one store suggests the problem is higher up the chain. It might not be Apple's actual policy, but it's certainly a problem somewhere in Apple.
