"And I don't think that 10^5 people ever managed to form a mosh pit either. That either deserves a Guinness World Record or a Darwin Award - not really sure which...."
I think the reference to numbers is for the crowd itself, not the numbers in any mosh pits that form.
"Thank you, Microsoft, for making this an easy choice. Now I want to see what Sony offers. If PS4 can play used games offline, then that's my next console."
Nah - with what I've read about the options for playing older games on the PS4, I think I'll stick with my PS3.
Even when the supply of new games runs dry, there will still be plenty of old ones available second hand - and, TBH, although I used to play quite a lot, these days I switch on infrequently enough that my existing collection of games (most of which I haven't even started playing) will probably last for the rest of my life anyway, so even the second hand market is largely irrelevant.
So, it looks as though both Microsoft and Sony have helped save me some money. Nice one, guys.
"What would you prefer, the system asking for you to confirm some details to verify it is indeed in contact with the intended recipient, or just call your number and confirm to whoever picks up your appointment at the clap clinic? Use your head."
I think you are missing the point slightly - Vimes' objection clearly wasn't the security details that were being asked for, it was the fact that it was the wrong number being called to start with, coupled with the fact that it remained on the line for an entire day.
Someone should be noticing such long calls: they are a clear waste of money, but more to the point they indicate, quite strongly, a problem that should be addressed.
"I'm not convinced #12 should be female"
Quite. And nor should any subsequent regenerationed Doctors: Why the Doctor shouldn't regenerate into a female.
He posted screen grabs of the emails he received from Paypal. This one says that "To be eligible for the Bug Bounty Program, you must not: [...] Be less than 18 years of age."
The closest I can think of off hand is Jonathan Maberry's The Dragon Factory - the second (or is it third?) Joe Ledger novel. (Enjoyable reads, all of 'em!)
IIRC the supervillains in that aren't so much cloning as genetically engineering, with the end result being mythical creatures made real - but there might have been some cloning of extinct creatures as well.
" If you have to wear glasses to read your email or look things up then you (a) can't look cool in shades and (b) wear your usual glasses."
But you can get shades that match your prescription (as I have, sort of*) - so (b) is covered, though (a) is an arguable point, both with shades, and shades that match your prescription.
* Prescription updated, shades not. Must rectify that at some point!
"There's a tax that keeps on calling me,
Down the road is where I’ll always be,
Every buck I make, I’ll move out of reach,
Can’t stay for long, send me tax bills and I’m gone again.
Maybe tomorrow, I’ll want to settle down,
But if you tax me, I’ll just keep moving on..."
There. Fixed it for you.
"But to be able to get hold of a card and then use it straight away, on the high street without having to enter a code is just insanity... How much is card crime going to jump now?"
Quite.
I think there's a fairly low payment limit for contactless cards of about £20, but that just means the thieves can't purchase something large with a stolen card, not that they can't run up a nice bill - but hopefully (!) credit card companies will spot unusual activity and stop it/contact the card owner to verify it before it gets too bad.
"Pointless tech that will fail.
Just like 3D TV."
IMO - and, I assume, yours - 3D TV is a great big pile of steaming elephant output.
However, I don't think it's fair to say that it has (or will) fail. If anything, I think it's quite (annoyingly) successful. A lot of people I know now have 3D TVs and rave about them, and most of those who don't seem to be thinking of a 3D TV when they replace their current set - and even those that aren't may end up with one anyway. All of which makes 3D TV sound rather successful.
This silly device, however? EPIC FAIL!
"So this is basically Apple iNsurance?"
The iThing approach doesn't really work on the word insurance because of how it's pronounced. :)
My thoughts, though, were of the times they've been slapped down in some places for selling Applecare to people who don't need it. Wrap it up differently, try again...
"Been on several flights recently, just carried on using my e-reader and DAP all the way up and down. Quite amazingly, two extremely low-power devices at the back of the plane didn't seem to cause any disruption. I'm astonished I survived, frankly."
Well, the truth is that the plane suffered a fault during take off, and crashed as a result, with some fatalities along with injuries varying from minor to life-threatening.
Yes, you did survive, but barely. You're actually in a coma dreaming away, merrily oblivious to what really happened.
"In this case the advice was not for you."
Comments posted in a public forum can attract responses from people other than those who the original comment was aimed at. And in other news, the pope shits in the woods.
"Carry on using your Windows, that's all!"
I'd rather not, thanks. It's a case of needs must.
"> Just buy a Mac and that will happen.
Then you will have new ways of doing less."
Quite.
Thankfully, my Win7 laptop is still going strong and should continue to do so for some time, but if I did have to buy a new computer, a Mac is a ludicrously silly solution - it won't run the software I need to use most, so it would indeed be a new way of doing less.
In order to run the software that I need to run, I'd have to use the Mac to run Windows, in which case I might as well have saved some money and bought a Windows computer in the first place.
"Yeah, I started referring to it as the "USS Kenny"..."
Okay, so you were talking about Enterprise, but the classic Kenny scenario is in STII & III:
"Oh my god, they killed Spock!"
"You basta...."
"Oh, no, it's okay. We've found a new one."
Sadly*, once I knew Benedict Cumberbatch was in the movie and playing the bad guy, I guessed who his character might be - correctly.
Despite this, and despite everything that's so obviously going to be wrong about this film, I'll still go and see it, sad git that I am.
* For guessing correctly, and for guessing correctly.
