It's all about choice. If you deal with Microsoft, you don't seem to have much... I have used Kaspersky for many years 'cos I am happy with the protection it gives me. I should be able to make a choice in that. No one fundamentally trusts MS with anything security related - too much bad history. Defender is not needed as a core part of the OS.

I said I'd avoid Win10 like the plague on my Lumia 1020, and now it seems I don't have to worry. At last, I can say 'thank you Microsoft!' for something...

Don't think Intel owns Kaspersky - in any case KIS 2016 is now widely available and not vulnerable to this AFAIK.

I am currently still using a PC that I bought in 2006. The PSU and motherboard (ASUS P5NSLI) are original, as is the HDD (a Seagate I think)

I've upgraded the BIOS, processor and memory, together with the graphics card, and Win 7 replaced XP when it came out way back when...

The machine still shows a decent turn of speed, the limitation being the 5400rpm HDD, and Windows 10 reckons it is compatible, although I've not been brave enough to try it!

Yeah, but...

What's to say that the money will even be used by the Government to implement broadband in the manner they describe? Look at the Road Fund License - created to pay for road building and repairs, but in reality just goes in to the treasuries coffers. Evidence? The state of our roads that more resemble the surface of the moon...
