IBM to expunge over 500 people in latest redundo round

Sweeping Brush

Serious question

"As revealed a fortnight ago, IBM told staffers in both business units to form Employee Consultation Committees (ECC)"

Am I reading correctly that people are being told to form their own committees to consult on their own redundancies?

Surely its the job of HR to form the committee to answer the employee's questions?

Also, if employee's are being told to do their own consultations, if they don't form a committee at all does that mean that IBM would then be in contravention of employment law if they made someone redundant who did not have a chance to consult?

I'm geniunely interested to know as when it happened to us it was HR who had to go around and have individual consultations with everyone at risk.

Change to code to require only majority of signatories?

I know enough about cryptocurrencies to know that I dont know enough, but would it be possible to modify the Eth codebase so that multisig contracts only require the consent of the majority of signatories rather than all of them and thus be able to unlock the wallets that way?

Then once they are unlocked and moved to a safer wallet the codechange can be reverted?

Be polite but scare the crap out of them.

My solution which has worked with 100% efficiency so far :

Them : Hello, Mr Person, I am calling from ....

Me : How did you get this number? This number is unlisted and is part of the Witness Relocation Program. Please hold the line for 30 seconds caller while we trace this call and verify that the location you are ringing from is on the list of allowed contacters and dispatch law enforcement officers to your location if it is not

Sleuths unearth 'Panic Mode' in Android, set off by mashing back button

Sweeping Brush

This was not the Panic Mode I was looking for.

I was hoping like hellwig that this was some sort of special dialling code for anyone being attacked/mugged/robbed who could mash the button while handing over their phone to cause it to lock up and autodial the emergency services.

But i guess having a useful feature like that would cause less phones to be stolen and therefore reduce profits so would never be implemented.

Glasses

Can we get a brief comment on the relative comfort of these guys for glasses wearers?

Years ago I had a pair of headphones with the softest foam ring I've ever encountered and never been able to find them again.

they were the only pair I could wear that didn't give me blinding head pains after two hours of gaming.

Now I'm reduced to using in-ear buds because nothing breaks immersion more than the screams of agony when you realise that your glasses are now embedded into the side of your head and you didn't notice until you went to adjust them

No need to sue, just all stand around and laugh at Sony.

Law in Ireland slightly different.

In Ireland the offense is 'Holding a mobile phone while driving' and costs 2 penalty points

You don't even have to be using it.

From the April 2010 statistics almost 90,000 points were given out so over here its definitely being enforced.

Why Nominet disconnected 1,000 sites with no court oversight

Sweeping Brush

Thank you mr policeman.

The Police pointed out a number of domains to Nominet,

Nominet investigated them and discovered the violated the agreed upon contract and suspended them,

whats the problem?

If Nominet had suspended properly registered and valid domains without a court order then step on them, but in this case, the police told them something, the looked at the domains, found they were wrongly registered and suspended them.

anyone that was affected could have simply updated their details with valid details and got turned back on again. As has happened with the valid ones that were suspended.

I will of course be taking advantage of this tactic next weekend for Assassassassassassassassins Creed :)

Rules of the Road.

I don't know the exact rule of the roads over in England, but here in Ireland it is actually against the law to have ANYTHING in your hand while driving.

Its considered that if you have anything in your hands that you are not giving complete attention to your driving and so you can be done for driving without due care and attention.

I can't find the news report right now, but I do remember that a few years ago there was a successful prosecution of a man who was eating an apple while driving!!! He obviously ran into the cop on a really bad day :)
