As I understand it, nobody in the department is happy about this and they all think it's a terrible idea. But the minister and his colleagues are happy, because they get to take money away from the poor to fund their desired tax cuts for business and the wealthy. As a bonus, they get to further demonise the poor along with it.

Like hell. Steam still sells as many copies of AAA_Game_of_the_Month as both console markets combined, and the newest consoles still have no more power than a midrange PC of five or more years ago.
I used to use Linux on the desktop, and quite liked it. Games, however, are the big sticking point. Consoles are not an option, and WINE is still not good enough.
What site have you been reading? REASON and RATIONALITY are sacred here, not "The Left", like it's some monolithic organisation. It just so happens that many leftward-leaning ideas are frequently much more reasonable and rational than most right-leaning ideas. Not always, when leftie idiots are being just as foolish in their own way as rightie idiots, they face the same degree of scorn. Witness the reaction to a lot of the "safe space" bullshit, for example.

Work is considered "good" because the work of the lower classes generates more and more wealth for the owning classes. And the owning classes have put great effort into perpetuating the "work=good" idea through brainwashing and indoctrination, usually in the form of religion but also through constant vilification of those who do not (or can not) work.

Half the design failures of Windows 10, and most of the design failures of Windows 8, would have never occurred if MS weren't trying to push this crap about "unifying" desktop and mobile.

I have to agree, I'm always amused when an American says something or someone is "left" as if they really believe they know what the term means. It's almost as funny as hearing them say "socialist". Here's a hint, USA: your Democrats are situated some distance to the right of right-wing parties in many other countries, including my own. Your Republicans are way over the madness event horizon and accelerating.

Well, actually yes. Modern farm animals did not exist before humans farmed them. We MADE cows, by selectively breeding the meatiest and most docile wild aurochs over many generations. Much the same occurred with chickens from jungle fowl, pigs from wild boars, dogs from wolves, etc.

Not exactly. FTL particles could theoretically travel slower than c as well as faster. They just can't travel exactly at c, meaning they couldn't slow down through c to subluminal speeds. If they had a way to instantly change speed without going through all speeds in between then they could travel slower than c as well as faster.
