Considering that they have infiltrated all political parties en masse, that they choose the runners for elections, that they know who supports who in a given party, they might even rig the internal elections ... police state.

All this explains the completely absurd policies our governments have implemented over the years, why public spending keeps growing exponentially, while our governments keep blaming the welfare state for the national debt - even though welfare-related spending does not grow in any significant way, compared to public spend.

22 ¶ And it was at Redmond the feast of the dedication, and it was winter.

23 And SadNad walked into the campus park in Solomon's porch.

24 Then came the users round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be to rip us off, tell us plainly.

25 SadNad answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my board's name, they bear witness of me.

26 But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.

Microsoft encrypts explanation of borked Windows 10 encryption

Re: Silly Peeps

An encrypted drive safeguards your data somewhat when your kit gets stolen, that is it. When windows is running, all required data on your drive is automatically decrypted, for each and every program that runs on your computer, including Microsoft's telemetry (or whatever they call their spyware this week) software.

They don't need master keys, you other numpty, the data is decrypted on your system before it gets sent over a secure (I would hope for you, guyz) connection to mothership.

Maybe you mean a Microsoft rep is sneaking into your house to slurp your data while you're at work ...

Are you sure it is the patch that fixed your "scrolling" problem, I think it's the reboot ?

>The update process is actually good. The data that is sent back to MS actually is diagnostic info so that MS instrument and correct errors on a users system.

ROFLMAO, thanks!

As in:

Redmond, Washington

dev1: Oh, Mr X has a problem, seems like scrolling is broken.

dev2: do you have the error stack ?

dev1: Yeah, sure, here it is.

dev2:I'll fix that, recompile, and have a patch in, what, three hours ...

dev1:You are cool, but who is gonna test that ?

dev2:The customer reporting the issue, I have no time to test.

Do you really believe this is how it works ?

Testing ....

Well, as it turns out, no HW drivers come into play here. It is simply that they did not test the patch on a system with both Windows 7 and affected Outlook version installed, at the least, they did not test properly.

They also failed to test the Windows Server 2008 R2/Outlook combo properly.

I guess Microsoft is not using Outlook internally anymore.

Hans 1

So, I remember a few years back, there were less than 10 known threats to OS X, now 1400 or 2000, depending on how you count .... still not in the same league as hundreds of thousands if you go look at MS. So safer, mathematically, of course, however, you are only as safe as your skill allows for.

I find the malware on Windows to get always harder to remove ... mainly due to brain-dead Windows file locking, mostly.... none of that BS on our UnixyWare© stuff (That is my brand, with the y).

Now, I have a few macs at home, spend most of my time on Linux though, macs are for the kids ... I am currently using Windows 8.1 (LOL, the more I know you, the more I hate you) ....

Uber caught everyone by surprise

>Uber is worth nowhere near its $40 billion current valuation, but its technology is undeniably brilliant – and getting better thanks to the engineers working tirelessly on it.

The tech can be brilliant, in multiple countries, however, they have specific laws covering transport services. Requirements must be met and a person wanting to transport people in a car for a fee will have to pay for the right to do so in many countries ... Uber France is dead or about to be slain, and that is just an example.

Car pooling services where you pay a fee for the trip are next to be investigated.

Note that I have no opinion on the merit of such laws, just saying ... taxi service providers across the globe who pay humongous amounts of establishment fees etc are pushing hard for the laws to be applied to phoneApp taxi services as well.

Re: Get real!

If you want to know what your private data looks like at Google or Microsoft or any of the other places that collect it, then picture a giant sand dune. It's in there somewhere, one or two grains.

You idiot, sorry, but you are. They basically know where you live, if you were stupid enough, they even know your real name. They sell that data to some advertising corp which has other sources of information about you, such as customer cards of your local supermarket, grocery, or DIY store. They recoup all that with big RDMS' and they have the local grocery store give you free vouchers for, say, incontinence pads, because your Mrs, while in her 60's, ordered a large quantity of menstruation pads online for your step daughter. Obviously, they thought the pads were for her ...

Don't believe me ? Already happened here in France, big scandal ... Seriously, this IS already happening, wake up, anybody in ????

Now, guess what, they know your birthday (you certainly entered it on some form or another), they know all your contacts (whatsapp, iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, Facebook, anybody?), they know their birthdays too ...

I do not like what MS did with Windows 8, but it is way better than 10, if you ask me ... here's why:

The start menu in Windows 10 is less usable than the TKFM or whatever it is called this week of Windows 8, at least in Windows 8 you have more space to place your own apps and, you do not have to go through an alphabetically ordered list full of 99% useless apps ... well you do, but since they are puked all over the screen in multiple columns, you hardly have to scroll.

I have skype for business installed, yet I still have a "Get Skype" item

I have Office 2016 installed, yet I still have a "Get Office" item

Despite what was said in a sarcastic Apple ad, Alarm & Clock are not the most interesting apps on Windows, why are they listed in second spot under all apps, I would expect them under accessories. This is just a silly example, as I said, 99% of what is there should be under folders.

Why is it so that I have opened Word and Powerpoint on the command line at the least 260 times, yet they still do not show up in "Most Used" ????

Why do I have OneNote and OneNote 2016 listed ?

Why, when I search for Word in search bar below, is Wordpad the best app the first time I try, and, without opening Word inbetween, why is Word now at the top of the list?????

What 8 and 10 have in common: I spend a certain amount of time in the beginning unpinning a gazillion apps from the respective "start screen"s and place my own, Windows 8 makes that far easier.

The Windows 2000 menu was by far the best menu.

Now, please tell me ... why ohhh why the FUCK do you store a single start menu for all users ????? Are you f'ing nuts? Windows 2000 had default and user-specific start menus, so did XP.

I seem to remember Windows 95 also had user-specific start menus.

I have to put up with this shit for work and believe me, I have tried very hard to postpone this .... thank Linus I have a Linux box where I spend most of my work time.

Ohhh, and, for some reason, the start screen did not come up through rdp or vmware vcenter client, a reboot fixed that ... as they say, if it don't work, reboot ... just like Win95 ...

Re: Audio quality is king

People hear with differing sensibilities, so good amp and speakers are a must for me! The wiring should be thick for reduced impedance as that would lower the signal strength and, as such, the volume which "might" introduce noise (the latter (noise) ONLY if placed before the amp), the cable does not need to be gold, though. The gold connectors on sockets are, I think, to prevent corrosion ... some audiophile lunatic came up with the "gold conducts leccy better" so "conducts sound better" and that stuck with the marketing teams of different brands.

There is a world between e.g. Keane's "Somewhere only we know" on iTunes and on CD (Same Album, same cover), it might be a different mix or the compression algorithm used completely "deleted" some of the sounds.

World's oldest person scoffs daily ration of bacon

I like bacon, it is really not bad, but what's all the fuss about ? It is not THAT good ... There is a guy on youtube or 10 who list track names of albums (with time offset links) with all nouns replaced with "bacon". Now, what is the meaning of all this ? Bacon (proper English variety) tastes nice, so does chicken curry, rib eye, and broccoli, I would not know which I prefer. I never thought there could be a bacon fanclub, I thought the bloke on youtube was bonkers, apparently, there are more on here!

Five things that doomed the big and brilliant BlackBerry 10

Sammy, dunno, Apple, yeah! Go check the market practices Apple engaged in in Europe, the only country where this was exposed was France, the telcos of other countries have no balls.

Why is it so hard to find BB10 devices in the market ? There are NONE in shops, the only option I had was a pro kit supplier.

Hans 1

I did not have any trouble copy-pasting a url into the browser, then again, I usually just tap it ... I have two z30's in my household.

As for Android compatibility ... I have two Asus tables (ARM, Atom) and with either it is impossible to get the "keyboard" up reliably in clash of clans, the only game I occasionally play on those things.

On the Z30's, it works like a charm. The z30's cannot save the game progress to the cloud, which means that you rely on the backup of the phone you have on your computer.

iOS has the problem that when you update iOS, it removes all games and shit (god knows why) and you have to install it all again ... when you do not connect to save your game progress, you lose everything ... quite a few th9's and 10's lost there, in my clan, if the members are to be believed ...

The two windows give different views, but they look out at the same universe. Both views are one-sided, neither is complete. Both leave out essential features of the real world. And both are worthy of respect.

BS, religion is not worthy of respect. People who gob the crap are worthy of respect, though ... it was not their choice to be brain-washed, actually, it was, in most cases, the fault of parents who happily "assimilate" their young before they know any better. You would not want your kids to laugh you out the house every morning, would you ?

All religions are bullshit that we have introduced in the past to impose ethics and morals, to try and help those who cannot be otherwise stopped from stealing, killing etc ... The irony is that these religions, all religions WITHOUT exception, happily ask of their faithful that they kill, steal, rape, torture ... you name it, in "god's" name.

Today, we are more and more replacing religious belief with patriotism. We as a community are better than you numpties because we live on right side of the pond/mountains/river....!
