The thing is, some of the ccleaner backers claim it is not only a registry cleaner, as it deletes MRU's (which are registry entries, n00b), finds installed software (again, registry keys n00b^2), and apparently cleans up other stuff such as startup programs (registry keys (for the most part, msconfig is your friend)) ....

Listen, mate, if you are so keen on keeping your MRU's clean, clean them once, export registry key and keep it in a safe location ... when you wanna clean, delete and import. 5 minute job to write & test a batch script... no more time spent trying to keep CCleaner up-to-date ...

You never know what CCleaner will do, MRU's are safe, installed software pretty much also .. but the rest ?

If you are in front of a computer that need cleaning, you backup & reinstall ... really, it is that simple.

Ccleaner users are n00bs, no ifs, buts, or maybes.

Downvote all you want, I don't care, but please, think for two minutes and accept that you are wrong, no, seriously, you are, really!

Paris, coz she likes a good thorough cleaning every now and then ...

Slurp blame HP for a registry key ... hm, so their update does not properly handle a certain value of an unspecified registry key which causes the update to stall for ten minutes ... weird, reads like bad coding ... I think you have two cases:

The registry key value is invalid, in which case you log that and fix the registry key value

The registry key value is invalid and cannot be fixed, in which case you log that and you exit

All of this before attempting to install the update, of course ...

How about a configure script, Slurp ?

That, and all settings stored within are loaded into memory at all times ... even if the app using those settings is not running ... imagine on Linux, systemd loading all configuration files in /etc into memory, laugh not, who knows, Poettering might do this one day and call the binary regeditd.

Not sure if you have a say, where I work, I do not have a say when it comes to productivity software ...

If your business chose Office 319, the worst performer in cloud to date ... that EVEN if we say Azure was launched on Jan 1 2017 ... regardless of metrics .... lets take days downtime of any component, Azure Jan 1 2017 to date fares less well than Amazon AWS in the period March 2006 to Sept 2017 ... YES, 9 months compared to 11 years!

Same for Google, IBM, YES, AND Oracle ... you name it, Slurp has had more downtime than any other provider ... I have not checked, but I guess Slurp has had more down time than ALL OTHER MAJOR CLOUDY PROVIDERS EVER COMBINED, all that in 2017 alone!

That, and Azure is widely used, #2 cloudy choice ... go figure ... I know corporate policies etc, etc, etc ... Hello, Windows Cleaners and Surface Experts, anybody in ?

Seriously, 46 days of down time, without counting ~6* weeks of downtime logging into Office "365" with Firefox ...

* approx 6 weeks as I did not try every week ... grew tired after 3 weeks of trying daily...

Ah, the joys of the uptime on the "cloud".

Please do not mistake the "cloud" with Slurp's offering ... it has nothing to do with the offering of other players in the "cloud" arena. I mean, Slurp have had downtime every month since January, except for the pause over August, guess they froze the system with the many personal leaves (holiday makers)...

My personal guess ? Office 365 Exchange servers are being patched .... those 5 reboots do take their toll ...

I admit there are a bunch of a'holes in the Linux forums ... but, linuxquestions.org is pretty good, so is unix.stackexchange.com. Note that none of these two resources are "write my script" or "Answer please, coz I am too lazy to use google for an answer" services ...

For silly questions, I too, have used the "let me google that for you" joke, but I try to remain calm.

Sometimes, you get questions like: what is the best vehicle to move from a 160m2 house to another, noting that they do not wish to use anything bigger than a Renault Twizy.

Android has a disastrous security track record ... some 95% of all Androids on the market are vulnerable to at least one threat which will not be fixed by Google, assuming Oreo has a 5% Android marketshare, I guess much less, but still ...

BUT, Android sucks, their default mail app is plain useless, YES, useless, a waste of space on the device ... ok, you can get another, but email is kinda central to a phone, up there with texts and calling. Have not seen a decent filemanager on the device, yet. The sound management is a joke, like media/ringtone sound levels - I keep muting my phone when I want to reduce media sound ... I don't want everybody on the train to hear I am about to play CandyCrush, thanks, yet I do want to keep ringtone sound level normal, please ... how hard can that be ? BB10 and iOS do that out of the box.

At least now you can format microsd cards and install apps on them, we are getting there ... only if you get Android 6 (iirc) or later ... 80% of phones out there won't get 6, let alone 7 or 8 ...

Android, to be honest, I cannot understand how they could be where they are ... the OS sucks golf balls through garden hoses ...

Now, Apple, iOS has its problems, too ... no microsd, for example, completely F'd up, Listen, Ive, the 1980's called, they want their lockin back ... iTunes ... (no need to go into that, right ? We all know iTunes sucks), File management on iOS ?

Backups, hm, backups ... So, you have an issue, as in, you cannot install any apps anymore, you have tons of space, but no, it downloads but won't install ... since Apple has this locked-in filesystem BS, you cannot really get off the device what you want to then factory restore it ... no, you put your crown jewels (iow you backup your private data) on ff'ing iCloud, reset the phone, play the backup back and the f*cker still does not want to install apps ... you backed up the glitch ... soooo handy ... what do you do now ? You are AppleFsck'd!

We really need Debian or something on these devices ... these phone OS's are crap!

The EULA cannot take away any rights given to you by the Law of the Land; it can only give you permission above and beyond those rights.

hackers managed to get access to some of its internal data in mid-May by exploiting a vulnerable website application. They remained on the system until they were discovered on July 29.

On September 7th, Equifax publicly announces the security breach.

Ford made some decent cars ...the last, iirc, the 1968 Shelby ... as for Chevvy, their cars in Europe are crap, dunno about the Chevvys in the US, though ...Volvo, yeah, well, they could do with a design team that has quit LSD as their cars look weird, always have, again, imho ... Jaguar, well, reliability is not their thing ... BMW could do with some adjustments to their seating ... I always have pain under my knees after long trips in BMW's as a front passenger, not as a driver, so I have to seat in the back ... YES, I have tried playing with the seat controls ... I happen to have long legs ...

Some Audi's and Mercedes' are pretty decent, if you ask me ...

Nope, Apple has this strategy to make your ancient phone crawl to a halt if you keep it updated ... the wife finally gave up her BB10 device because Whatsapp was no longer supported and got the 5S (that nobody wanted in the household) ... 9 months later, she begs me for a new phone ... the 5S she has is sluggish, the screen size is a joke, network connectivity, as in 3G/LTE at her workplace, works sometimes, often only after two or three reboots ... she had no such issues with the z30, and no, her office has not moved, nor have the LTE relays outside ... maybe she is holding it wrong, I dunno ...

Anyway, an Apple fanboy in her situation would upgrade to the latest model ... she now wants a 5" phone that can do whatsapp and take decent picks .... so ... if anybody has a preference ... ideally 64 Gb internal memory, good camera, newer Android version, good CPU/GPU and 3Gb RAM min ...

As for the others talking OpenBSD, note, BSD fanboy here, you have no clue. You get Debian without the non-free repos, well, you get free drivers. FreeBSD, BTW, is quite the same ... OpenBSD just has better default settings (more restrictive, takes know-how to use) ... what was it, one OpenBSD CVE in 20 years with the default settings ? Something like that, maybe two, I have not looked in a long time ... compare that to several dozens of CVE's every single month for Windows, because IE and a hell of other BS is built-in, even in server editions (Ok, not nano ... but try and install non-MS software on that ... good luck!) ... also, in Windows, hardware drivers are provided by manufacturers, so they do not count towards the Windows CVE list ...

macOS has decent Unix userspace, yet, proprietary, so as unsafe as Windows, by definition.
