Even MS Office has problems, as soon as your suppliers migrate to a new version of office, you have to also, because forward & backward compatibility is something Redmond never thought existed. I had to fix a Word document the other day, written with Word 2002, for Word 2016 ... the formatting was "gone" ... no, I do not have an old 2002 Word lying around, but pretty sure it worked flawlessly when it was authored.

We need a FSF phone OS that works on all phones => problem solved. Ideally, the system would have some sort of hardware detector to activate drivers ... I mean GNU/Linux does it quite nicely, we need that for phone OS' and I do not care if it is android based, it HAS TO BE FSF so we can apply patches as we see fit ... just like GNU/Linux.
EDIT: so miffed I originally wrote FFS iso FSF ...

THAT Î happened to me yesterday, well, to the son ... 0wned this other bloke on pvp repeatably until the net went. So, he said the guy DDOS'd us ... I thought, bollocks, not possible .... that script kiddie cannot control a bot farm ...turns out, you have DDOSAAS sites ... just fill in IP of target ... and they were chatting p2p, so he had our IP.
I have a router, "tracepath 8.8.8.8" stopped at my DSLAM IP, rebooting the router "solved" the issue, note that ISP-provided TV (as in, TV on their network) was not affected, only Internet access ... problem is, I have a home office ... if that shithead does it again, while I am working ... in a conf call or something, my phone is VOIP, what can I do ? Complain to ISP ?
Should we DDOS the various DDOSAAS sites, use their weapon against them ... go to one, put in IP of the other and vice versa .... My router drops all unsolicited incoming packets, I tried it ... what are these sites doing that causes the ISP to drop our packets ?

Actually, Santa Cruz were in deep shit, Linux was growing strong and was ready for the low and mid end servers throughout the 90's, this cost Santa Cruz aplenty customers. Intel announced iTanic and IBM, the only UNIX vendor with a pair of functioning brains, chose Power AND iTanic, just in case. For iTanic UNIX, they ventured with Sanat Cruz (Project Monterrey).
Intel were late with iTanic and the chip was nowhere near as powerful as it was initially "purported" to be ... the first dev kits were slower than a Casio 100 pocket calculator,
iTanic perception tanked severely, Santa Cruz believed Intel's Gospel and IBM saw a better opportunity, beef up :Linux, but kept the project with Santa Cruz going ... YEARS LATER, still no progress on Intel's side and Santa Cruz was acquired by SCO^HUM.
IBM released something based on Monterrey but without a compiler, ROFL. UNIX without a compiler is basically useless ... Ok, not to me, but to software vendors, anyway...
This, SCO^HUM is claiming did not fulfill the agreement in project Monterrey, so have found another angle to sue IBM.
However, this is a completely different case, this is IBM vs SCO^HUM only, no Linux code to be concerned about ... they already lost that case years ago ... I guess IBM will have to buy them ... will be cheaper in legal fees ... After all, SCO^HUM has backers in many proprietary software houses ... and can sue on any grounds until and after kingdom come ...

With latest iOS, 5S is unusable, 6S is substantially slower than 7S.

Note that I was once servicing an XP box, must have been in 2008, and the computer's fans were running like mad, causing an incredible racket, the lady who was using it was about to throw the box out and get a new one.
I backup documents (docs, photos, vids etc), nuke the disk and reinstall XP SP2 (NON-OEM)... fans are silent, I run Windows Update, after a hours, and its 15 reboots (lol), the fans go wild again ... I had not even gotten to the point of installing anything else or restoring the documents, so I go and download latest drivers from Dell, reboot x times, same thing ... the box got a Debian treatment, I restored documents, all fine and everybody happy ... little hand holding, she kept using that box for years ...
So, Windows was intentionally making the fans go wild to get the lady to purchase a new computer. I cannot prove anything, I cannot see the code, but ... why else would this happen ? Faulty driver ?

Where I live, the current mayor's team "cheated" by using bulletins of people who did not turn up ... the mayor won by ~140 votes, in a city with 300k people. The opposition had 48* hours to investigate the registry and "only" found ~100 entries where a signature was used multiple times ... like, the guyz gave up coming up with new signatures and ended up using the same.
Sadly, for the opposition, 100 != 140, so the mayor officially won the election.
If it were me, you find two occurrences of a signature and neither was legalized (you can vote on behalf of someone, if you fill in the paperwork), you investigate the registry ... but no, not in France ... too much hassle, she's a crook, in other words, one of us ...
* They found 100 suspect votes with a team of ten people going through countless records ... needless to say, massive fraud.

While there may be compelling reasons for that decision
If you think about it for a second, I cannot see a compelling reason, mainly because of lock-in. You would want to ideally use multiple cloud vendors for increased resilience, better uptime and avoid lock-in.
OpenStack is the only framework that ticks all these boxes, procure from several players, if a datacenter of one of them goes offline have another DR setup at a different player. Should a player choose to change the terms of the contract, you can always quite easily move to another ... same framework.

Unix != Windows ... UNIX does not have silly Windows file locking issues, so, as another put it, you copy, then update the kernel interfaces to point to new kernel, finally dump the old. You then do that every 10/15 minutes ... note, the size of the beast is ~1Mb, you can compile your own to make it smaller ... you could move it every minute without noticeable lag ...
