Trust Advertisers... really? We became of world of adblockers because advertisers *proved* over and over again that they *can not* be trusted not be giant pillocks. Pop-Ups, Pop-Unders, Punching Monkies, click breakers, etc. etc. etc. The history of the Internet is the history of the advertising industry taking the mick.
Because Facebook spent a decade trying to position themselves as a one-stop source for services just like Twitter did. The services that got hit *do* have websites, but people don't visit them daily, people (for some reason) do browse Facebook daily and so those services rely on their advisories showing up in people's feeds to get out there.
This is to Facebook's benefit. It's more content for them, it legitimises them in the view of the public. Nuking these things was pure stupidity and turned the 'average' (i.e stupid) punter against them.
As I said in my original post, the law is shit, complete dog shit, but Facebook didn't do itself any favours with their behaviour.
Look Zucker it's a shit law, we all knew it was a shit law, and anyone with common sense was against it, but then you had to go and pull this stunt. It's not like Facebook is a well liked company or anything and now they pull this crap and every scrap of good will they might have had because ya know NewsCorp and a shit law just vanished because they had to act like brats and then double down on acting like brats with their 'apology' for yanking health services and emergency services pages.

The only good thing I'm seeing here is a trend towards fines being based on turnover / revenue because that's the only way they'll be meaningful deterrents. The actual law looks pretty crap and dangerous, but the fines part? That's how lawmakers should be thinking. How many times have you heard about companies being fined some number that is staggering to a normal person but is actually less than a days profits for them.
Ugg. I wish that more movies did day 1 legit streaming. I don't pirate, but I loath going to the cinema, it's loud, expensive, and full of rude assholes. I just want to sit on my couch with a few friends and eat food that doesn't taste like cardboard while enjoying it. So yeah I can totally understand why people pirate.
And here is the reason I never whitelist or disable my adblocker and why I install it on every computer I work on. Advertisers have spent the last twenty years proving they can not be trusted and this is just one more nail in the coffin.
The only adverts that I'll tolerate are pure text or pure image with zero script behind them, until ad companies start using that, I'll keep blocking.
Err... forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't the International Space Station you know *International*, does NASA even have the right to sell it? It's bad enough that space exploration has basically withered on the vine as governments give it up as too hard and expect private companies to step in, but giving up the one *real* presence we have in the heavens as well?
As much as I respect Musk and SpaceX and their ilk I'm very uncomfortable letting some an important element of our future fall into the hands of private companies.
The thing is in this case he thought he did have permission as people who worked there told him to make himself a coffee on previous occasions. Sure they might not have had the authority to give him permission but that doesn't mean he should be sacked! At most if the woman in question was that put out by a dirty pleb using her precious coffee machine she could have asked him never to do it again.
Something has to be really bloody obvious if a politician understands it.
What annoys me even more than obnoxious adverts (that's anything more than a banner image or a text advert) is the websites that are now throwing up what I like to call "you thieving bastard" signs when they detect an active ad-blocker.
I'm sorry but until you stop running videos in the background, with sound, and start hosting your own ads instead of using dodgy third party vendors who do who knows what with their code I'm not white listing you.
Seriously we need to stop this obsession with teaching kids 'job skills' and focusing on *teaching them how to learn*. That's the key factor in education, not route memorization, teach them how to pick up the skills they need when they need them.
Exposing them to history, art, literature, music, and all the other 'worthless' stuff only helps.
It seems like this idiot wants a world of drones who seek the almighty dollar above everything else.
Okay so I'm really hoping that all these people that keep saying in poles they are going to vote for Trump are just trolling, because the idea that people actually support this lunatic is seriously depressing. Advertisers only have themselves to blame for the rise of adblocking software... If they didn't put sound and moving crap all over the screen then people wouldn't have gotten so fed up that they block *everything*. It's up to them to *earn* back our trust...

Honestly these people have no valid reason to be mad, they weren't pre-ordering a product, they were speculating, gambling that the company would keep its promises, and with all bets there is a chance you'll lose your money.
Don't give money to any crowd funding effort that you're not willing to never see again.

This is why the rise of 'walled gardens' are a bad thing. Most smartphone users I know don't even know you can install apps without using the appstore. Sure most people like that aren't interested in this conference, but it does show just how powerful companies like Apple and Google have become.
I have personally known police officers, many of them, and for the most part they are just like any group of people, nine out of ten of them are good people just doing their job, it's the last one who is the problem that ruins things for everyone.
Body Cams are good for both the police and the public, it protects officers against false complaints, and it protects the public from that one dirty officer who brings the rest of them into disrepute.
It also provides evidence for court cases, bit hard to say you didn't punch that bloke when the cops have footage of it isn't it.
No, while Australian police are pretty good, it is my strong opinion that police should all wear cameras while on duty, and they shouldn't be able to turn them off (except for bathroom breaks).

A Tasmanian judge overruled a hospital that wanted to sell some cottages that were suppose to be used for 'spinsters' and the income to go to a hospital. The trust managing them wanted to sell them, the judge said no.

Hmm I'd take the $39m, it's a lot of bloody money, more than enough to live on for the rest of your life. Hell stick it in a *bank* account, not an investment account, and you can live on the *interest* alone from that much cash (2.5% interest, about 975,000$ a year).
Of course I'd make bloody sure that the contract with the local government was airtight and they couldn't just turn around and sell the park in a few years when some bright bulb gets elected.
I don't know about America but there was a case in my own town about a woman who left some prime real estate to the town almost fifty years ago, on the condition it was used as a place for mothers to rest and look after their kids. About ten years ago the council tried to sell it, since the land and building were worth millions at that point, being right in the middle of town, and they almost got away with it until a local lawyer stepped in and had a court look at the original will.
I'd also stipulate that the local government wave as much of the costs involved in the sale (legal fees, etc) as possible.
I do hope he takes the lower price, because those people shouldn't be forced out of their homes. Housing prices are just out of control in a lot of places.

But those said same services charge the consumer as well... So why exactly do we need the government credit card involved again?
It's one thing to buy *goods* off the private sector, say instead of setting a government owned and opperated shipyard when it needs a new destroyer, rather they go to a private one and have their ship built there.
But it's completely another for an ongoing service.
My issue with privatisation is that it defeats the whole *purpose* of government.
Step back and think a moment of why we actually have governments. At it's most basic level it is to provide services. Those services can be things like national defence to prevent any old wanker from rowing up in his longboat and nicking your shit.
Same reason we have cops and courts and prisons, at their most basic level they are services for the people, to keep order. Then you get to things like roads, services to enable travel and trade. Water? Power? Sewage? Internet?
Same deal.
So if everything is being handed off to the polly's mates money making concerns, after the public paid for the infrastructure and getting a few years worth of cash for them (cash that doesn't last), what exactly does the government do now? Regulate? Yeah right. Pass stupid laws? That it does well but not exactly a service for the people.
Keeping [b]infrastructure[/b] in the public hands is the best thing you can do for the public. Private companies can't be trusted to extend services if they aren't forced to, better just to keep it publicly owned and let private services run the retail arm, while the government wholesales.

I have very little sympathy for people who knowingly posed for a nude or sexually explicate photo or video. Yes the people posting the data and those making money off are sleazy as hell, but simple common sense should tell you that relationships end, and people will act in a spiteful manner.
Don't want your naughty bits to show up online for people to frap too? DON'T LET PEOPLE TAKE THE PHOTO IN THE FIRST PLACE MORON.

Sorry, I should have said Melbourne and Sydney, but the point still stands. I remember everyone chattering and claiming that soon "everyone will have cable" and then somehow the rollout stopped when they finished those cities, leaving most of the country needing bloody satellite dishes if they wanted PayTV and ADSL for fast internet... when they bothered installing it.
Since then a handful of small companies have done a handful of cities, but part of the reason I supported the NBN was the idea that the 'bush' (to those in Melbourne that means anything outside Geelong) would get it first so they couldn't pull a repeat of the cable crap.
It always amuses me how squeamish people are over the whole human waste into drinking water thing. Literally every glass of water you've ever drunk in your entire life was at one stage some kind of piss, human or animal, likely both, that's how the world freaking works, it's a mostly closed recycling system that turns shit into food, piss into water, and so on.
Machines just allow us to see the process a bit clearer.
Have to be pretty committed to be a jerk to do this... It's not like it's a one click process and I'm sure people spamming refund will get looked at closely.
This is honestly a good step forward, people looking for a way to trash it are just cynics of the highest order. Most people are honest, or well lazy enough not to bother with gaming the system.
I love how people assume that readers will scam the system. I bet you any money the people that jump through the hopes to get a 'free' ebook will a tiny number of the total users.
I don't know about you guys but I actually reread my books and I like to have a nice collection to fall back on.
