An end user needs a single bundle. You don't buy a car, then go and get an engine, some suspension, some wheels, brakes, an exhaust etc.... End users want a working thing, they don't care that it's made of lots of sub-things.
You don't seem to understand what the word means. Spying is secretly watching, it doesn't matter where the person you're watching is. So unless they joined in on social media and made it clear they were listening it's not unreasonable to call it spying.
A bit of an arrogant prick, eh? I've tried linux's before, they've never worked well enough for me to want them driving my home pc. It's my choice.
Now MS have started to go all Google I may be tempted to move, but the linux users on here regularly put me off with their in-fighting and pomposity.

Don't get me wrong, Windows 10 is making me seriously consider getting a linux for the home pc, but this story is not the place to rant about MS being total bastards because it just shows them as incompetent.

I see no difference between a news site that doesn't secure itself and an anonymous crime reporting site that doesn't secure itself. They're both web sites after all. How different could they be?
The article is pretty vague and the video isn't much help either. It seems like first a user installs the app, then it says it wants you to enable the accessibility features. If you do it starts to install adware and other crap without your permission. So the user has to install the app and give it permission, then it starts installing stuff on it's own.
It's not a virus.
I don't agree. People create apps because they can monetise more effectively and because it's trendy. The majority of apps don't do anything that a good html5 site couldn't.
Also, this allows the user to "stream" the app without installing it, proving that you don't need an installed app to access the information.
The root problem is that it's difficult to monetise websites. Solve that problem and the need for apps will be much reduced. How many apps run offline, do so much processing on device that javascript can't keep up or need write access to the devices file system?

This has little to do with malware development, it's about getting a product out to non-technical users and making it attractive to them. People will give things that look nice a chance but give up on things that look ugly. This malware will get more use because more people will stick with it because of it's attractive gui.

If it was on Windows Phone this place would be full of smartarses mouthing off about how shit MS are. You know, how hacking a browser should never compromise core system components, how MS don't sandbox things properly and their security implementation is flawed.
You never see that kind of helpful wisdom sharing on articles about Google vulnerabilities.
No, the problem is being kept waiting for 10 minutes or more at the end of every shift unpaid.
The simple answer is to put the clocking out machine after the search. I bet Apple could get the security staff to pull their fingers out if it was costing them a little money....
The apps discussed aren't necessarily accessing data without the users consent, it's the way they're sharing that data with third parties that's the issue. Nevertheless, you are correct in saying that it's easier to investigate what a web site is doing from the client. That doesn't let you see what they do with your data server side though.
So how does that work? Google cloud services on your usb stick? They provide backwards compatibility on all their apis so you can run a 2 year old version of Chrome OS against the latest web services?
Considering the way Google just retired the old Youtube api and broke a load of smart tellies I find that pretty hard to believe. It's not impossible for them to maintain all their old shit but they seem reluctant to.
