But wishing someone ill is not a threat. A threat consists of saying that you will cause ill to befall them. Wishing that someone would get assassinated is a bit rude, I will agree, but is no more a threat than "May you fall through an open manhole". By your logic, telling someone to "fuck off" may be considered sexual assault.

If it were universal roll-out, I would be inclined to agree with you. However, it isn't. There are places not more than 30 miles from a significant city that has no cable, no broadband, and not much in the way of 'high-speed' internet. I have lived in one such place, the only internet option was dial-up until about 2005. This was not in the heartland either; but rather near the east coast - no mountains, no swamps, no difficult geography, but also not many people.

But a pair of those beautiful monstrosities sitting either side of the throne in my EGVL canted slightly forward to give the impression of looming over petitioners/peons with the growls mentioned earlier in the thread.. that makes me happy.

Didn't the Bigfoot brand cover 5.25 inch drives? The Fireball was the 3.5" line. I guess they could go back and have Bigfoot as 3.5", and Fireball as 2.5" drives.... but it would be a pale imitation, and feel like it was trading on nostalgia - poorly.

If Seagate did roll out a proper Bigfoot 5.25" SATA drive with the same (average) areal density as these little nippers, that would be trading on nostalgia, and doing it right.

The topic of this article, and Mark's position, is not based on employees. I believe that is where your disconnect is. If Apple were employing these miners, even indirectly via contracting, you would have a very valid point. The position of the article is that these are not employees, these are poor people literally scrabbling through the dirt for something to help feed their families. There are no quotas, no KPIs, and no TPS reports. If one of these minors could feed their family off an hours work a day, they would have the choice to work 7 hours a week, and be at home the rest, or work more and get ahead in life - their choice. It seems like the 'feed the family' point is about 3 person-days per day, so they bring the children in to help out where they can.

Screaming for Apple or Indonesia to simply stop buying the ore mined by these people would not improve their lives, which is the whole point of screaming about this in the first place, no?

His working was a bit odd; not in the maths department but rather his type casting. The binary was 52 50, which is ASCII for '42'. A bit the long way, and kind of awkward, but accurate.

Kind of makes sense though, that in this universe The Answer would be a string representation of a number, probably a mis-cast at that.

I did not know that their print page was that robust. In which case I will update my previous feelings of "Meh" regarding the print button, to "Seriously Reg, you took out Accessability function? That's a worse idea than the all-white background was!"

I was hoping for discussion, not a vote count.. but I guess as of the current time 5 people don't think it'd be worth it, and 2 people think it would? If that's the case can I down vote my own post?

Maybe I should have worded the comment better: the discussion that I was referring to is the discussion that almost happens on frequent Google articles: What is your privacy worth to you?" I.E. would you trade privacy for unlimited sick time? Would you trade it for free email? (Gmail) Would you trade it for cheap, easy way to keep up with old friends? (Facebook)

I was hoping that a discussion on this would harken less to the old OS battles and actually get some views on the value of privacy.

That is an El Reg stock image, from when they ran the story about HBO having to re-shoot that scene. Much like the use of the head in the show, the re-use of this image is about economy, not politics. El Reg didn't want to create/commission/beg/borrow/steal a new GoT-related image; HBO re-used the head because those things are bleedin' expensive, and they didn't think anyone would recognize the re-cycled shrub.
