May you never get old

Sure some 999 calls are totally stupid and the people making them should be put in the stocks for a week but when you get old or infirm then calling 999 is all there is between you and death.

Checking in code is done all the time. I commited a lot earlier today. Nothing to celbrate about at all.

Now if you released some software and said 'go break it, tell us about the problems and we'll fix them' I know a lot more people would be interested.

Machine Shop & Tea Breaks? That's wot the canteen was for.

In the 'Erection' Shop the only chairs to be found was where a fitter and an apprentice was working on a job. The fitter would sit while (under his instruction) the apprentice did the work. The only time the chair was vacant for more than the time it took to get a cuppa/have a pee was the days when the apprentice was off at the local Tech college doing their C&G's

I was one of the apprentices doing just that from '69 to '72. Then I left and became a Mech Eng Student.

Them was the days.

Anyway, time for a pint while I can still afford it.

Lightning strikes: Britain's first F-35B supersonic fighter lands

Steve Davies 3 Silver badge

Re: "supersonic fighter"

In a flat dive a Harrier could go supersonic. Read the reports from the Falklands written by the pilots themselves.

Steve Davies 3 Silver badge

Re: Harriers

The UK Carrier don't have STEAM driven catapults. The US ones do because they are Nuclear powered. Our Carriers ar Diesel powered.

That's why the 'C' variant won't be used by the Navy/RAF.

When the Harriers (there is film evidence) made trial landings on Ark Royal the weather was at times pretty foul. Landing on a ship and hoping that the arrester hook catches was by all accounts[1] far hairier than a vertical landing where the beefed up undercart was able to withstand a 2-3ft drop thus countering the motion of a ship rolling about in rough seas.

[1] Intel gained from talking to one of the pilots who took part in the trials many years ago.

Sorry MS. Far too late.

As a result, I will never use it.

I paid for a lot of older versions of Windows but from now on, my wallet stays firmly shut when it comes to buying anything from MS in the future. Your stupidity has lost me as a customer and I know from comments here that I am not alone.

One question comes to mind though. How many defectors will it take for MS to wakeup and see the errror of their ways.

Screwfix vs B&Q

In my locale, they are less than 400yds apart. Once upon a time, Screwfix were cheaper than B&Q but not it seems the other way around.

The only advantage of going to Screwfix is that the car park is easier to get in and out of.

Then there is the thrust by B&Q to get the trade customers. So we see that the 'trade' (Cough-cough) price is less than use mere average punters have to pay.

Just show them pretty well any business card and you get the trade price.

Why can't they have one price for everyone?

So he gets all the patentos on Blockchains. What then?

He either getas rich (paid for in Bitcoin) or the rest of the world invents another text that bypasses these patents.

Also as has been mentioned, a lot of Blockchain is already out in the open so unless his applications represent an improvement on them he won't get them granted.Does he have a big fund for his lawyers?

There was recent news that IBM and Intel have been working together on this stuff. Does he really want to take on them in a legal case?
