Rob Enderle (remember him from SCO Days...????) was on Radio 5's 'Wake up to Money'.
What he said was IMHO, meaningless gobbledegook (aka Marketing Triplespeak).
From what I've read, onlt certain ARM Cpu's are affected but he implied that all ARM powered phones were vunerable.
I must remember to switch off entirely when his name in mentioned.
regarding Luddites
There are some but for others of us who are shall we say a bit longer in the tooth than some of these company CEO's are proudly sceptical of the use of technology for technology's sake.
Like so many patents that were granted when the application was almost identical to something already in existance by got granted because the words 'on a Network' or 'using a computer' were added as if they were some secret sauce...
I'm all for appropriate use is technology but not when everything seemingly has to require an always on internet connection AND you have the likes of Google hoovering up every little bit of data on us that they can, sometimes, it is better just to say...
'Nope. The old way is better'.

If you use a 'nightly' build then there is no guarantee that it is stable. One of the risks that you have to consider when selecting which version to download.
As there was a problem with this build then instead of throwing some toys out of his pram, he should have reported it and then selected one of the official release versions.

At least your OS allowed you to dowload the thing. There are signs that at least one OS provider really wants you to only get things from its App Store and has gone as far as releasing a version that only allows that. They are treating your laptop/desktop/all-in-one more like a phone. All in the interests of your safety and security they say. Bollocks I say.
That is the crux of the matter.
If (an I am guessing here) with devices that have the fingerprint sensor on the rear make it easy to use one finger (of each hand) and more awkward to use your other digits then that in itself makes the device a whole lot less secure.
How many people will just take the easy route and use the most convienent finger? Just as bad as making your login password 123456?

Can't see the point of them myself and I've seen people put themselves in real danger to get that extra special 'this is me' shot.

FaceId is a non starter for anyone who wears safety gear on their heads especially crash helmets.
I shall stick with my positively ancient but perfectly functioning iPhone 6s(bought from a 'fanboi' who had to have the latest iDevice). TouchId works find for me.

I regularly see yellow or red or white paint marking road defects yet bugger all is done about it.
The defect marking is obviously used by the responsible council/authority to say, 'we know about this' and that is as far as it goes.

Then there is all that anti-skid surface that flakes off after a couple of years.

TBH, it seems like the pressure on developers to release before it is ready is having an impact on all of us.
Once upon a time I was able to properly test my code before it got anywhere near the users.
Now with all these automated testing tools and test cases and all the rest, have we actually improved the quality of what gets shoved out the door?
There are days (like today when I look out at the snow covered landscape) when I really have my doubts.
On the bright side, adopting the mythical DevOps will fix it all and we will be happy bunnies :wink:
There will no doubt be be lawyers supposedly representing the estates of Ada Lovelace and Charles Babbage preparing to sue the whole IT Industry into oblivion for serial copyright violations.
I'm sure that they will find a way to link the difference engine to everything we do in IT today and then to claim the fights to everything that came after it.

Then in the summer holidays we build camps. Both underground and up trees. No real Adult supervision or Hinder & Stop in those days. The most common injury was treading on a nail. Never mind, the Hospital was just a few hundred hops away along town Barn Road.
Yuo are obviously not 'on message'. Cloud is where it is at. All the young hipsters (not all iPhone owning) think that the only storage is 'Cloud' based. Local Storage is so uncool and like.... so 1990's. Man didn't you know that went out with the ark (or the 8-bit CPU).

I do not use any cloud service for storage. It is just not secure IMHO.
The one I witnessed was in late 1977 at Dunsfold Aerodrome.
An HS125 was taking off with some Chinese VIP's on board. It flew into a flock of birds at about 20ft above the ground. Both engines flamed out. The pilot got the gear up and bellyflopped.
The plane went over the A281 and took the top off a passing car. The driver and passengers was the wife and children (plus others) of a pilot who was in the control tower at the time.
Everyone on the plane escaped with minor injuries at most.

IT is bad enough with birds. I witnessed a bird strike take out an aircraft just as it took off. Not something you forget in a hurry.

Difficult to avoid the first two no matter how many shell companies are used.
VAT has some scope for Fraud by moving it between jurisdictions (remember Google and where their 'orders' were completed, in Ireland even though the sale was in the UK)
With Corporation Tax there is the greatest scope for avoidance which is legal as opposed to evasion which is not.

Your situation is a known problem.
There are chargers that fit in a lampost.
However, many supermarkets, shopping malls and petrole stations already have Charging points. Some are actually 'Open' i.e. Free Charging points.

[1] I see a role for Hybrids for a while and that is when you are towing. Towing hits your range dramatically but as most of us don't do that on a daily basis it really does not matter that much.
