Some theories have a grain of truth. Many are blown out of all proportion just to sell Red Top Comics.

Lighty and flighty: Six sizzling portable projectors

Steve Davies 3 Silver badge
Unhappy

WTH?

I bought a projector in this size range more about 10 years ago. It was a tad noisy but is the size of a Jack Reacher paperback and has native 1024x768 resolution. Cost around £1100 back then.

I'm in the market for a replacement device now. It has to be 1080p as a minimum. After all, these things have to last a tad longer than the latest smartphone don't they?

As many of these devices seem to quote rather small native resolutions might it be possible to know if 720i, 720p, 1080i or 1080p output is supported?

That would make the comparisons an awful lot easier.

Steve Davies 3 Silver badge

Re: I can see the mayhem now...

The restriction most likely to make them fail is the [sudden] introduction of the need for a CPL + 500hours flying time before you are allowed to buy one.

That would stop most of the idiots but not all.

Those who 'pimp' their Fiesta's will still find a way to get airborne. Just a fact of life.

Second thought, make it easy for them to get flying. They'll soon become extinct.#

So....

Company 'A' located in a Town buys another comany('B') that is located in the same town.

Colour me cynical but could 'B' have located itself close to 'A' just to make purchase this more attractive?

6 months from now, the employees will have been absorbed into the Borg. All that means is that they'll have to turn left at the last stop light on their commute rather than turning right.

Now if it was something like

Company 'A' that has it's HQ in California has bought company 'B' that is located in a remote town some 500 Km from Ulan Bator, Mongolia.

Then IMHO, a few more people might take anything more than a passing interest.

Here's an idea

Make the total network infrastructure including BT's and Virgin's owned by a single company. Make all the intersested parties (BT, SKY VM etc) co-owners of that company.

Naturally, this won't fly because VM etc won't want to pay to maintain for the last mile in countryside. But it would stop them complaining about not getting access to BT's infrastructure.

If they want to improve the network then each of them will have to stump up to fund it. Yeah and pigs might fly...

Re: Why is iWatch battery so bad?

Remember that this is V1 of the product.

The first leccy cars were also shite. (G-Whizz....)

Now that the battery tech has improved then the cars are getting better. I went for a test drive in a PHEV on Saturday. You hardly knew when the petrol engine cut in to charge the battery. In a traffic jam on the M3 it was on leccy. No pollution perfect. When we got going again, the petrol engine started up to charge the battery.

The first jet engines were horribly polluting and innefficient. Now?....

I forsee that in 5 years these devices will last for around a week between charges as battery tech improves.

There is nothing like a behmoth (As Apple is) entering the market to stimulate the boffins to improve its obvious weak points. That generally benefits all the other players in the market.

Will I buy one? No chance. I hate anything on my wrist. If someone were to come out with a pocket watch then I might consider it.

So all you fanbois, hipsters and medallion men please go out and but these things. Then the rest of us can benefit from the advances in this sort fo tech in years to come.

Re: US International layout (Windows)

This advice is all well and good BUT

(the following mostly applies to Windows)

1) Many corporate devices are so locked down that you can't change the keyboard from US English. This applies to devices in used all over the world.

2) Plugging in even an international English Keyboard is a possible sacking offence even in non financial/medical/defence companies.

Even worse the keyboard needs a driver that you can't install because... you can guess the rest.

3) These corporate devices sometimes won't let you even change the handiness on a mouse.

4) Most US based support desks don't have a clue when you mention things like a 'cedilla' and think this this # is a pound sign and can't understand that this '£' is.

Currency signs other than $$$$$ are just not in their Vocabulary.

Don't you have to actually disable the Windows Update Service to stop this from happening?
