PNR data was shared with the merkins 14 years ago when I worked on airline systems. I'm surprised the Canucks have only just tried to dip their snouts in the data trough.

Re: @DougS I am not sure that Samsung needed to do any such pricing inducements.

The alternative side of the negotiation word have been Apple knowing that the Samsung mobile sales tanking is hurting the entire group and that Apple could fill up both some of the slack demand as a result of Sammy mobile needing to scale back production, and are more able to withstand short term supply constraints by limiting demand in various markets.

Whichever way it went I would love to have been a fly on the wall....

Spot on on all counts. I too thought Apple had more sense than to produce a stupidly wide phone just goes to show you can never tell.

Whilst I agree with you on O'Leary being O'Leary I disagree with you on Ryan air using the same seat pricing models as their competition. Afaik they use a far simpler time based model.

Source - 5 years or so ago I was on the project that deployed one of these pricing models into the other Irish Airline of note - an identical system that was used by both BA and Virgin.

As with all things IT they didn't develop their own internal models they bought in a software package from a vendor that employed a whole gang of clever mathematicians.

Now maybe its changed in the last 5 years but knowing O'Leary's cheap skateryness I doubt it.

Now your employing Grad comment on the cheap - was an accurate description of how RA started their online booking site, but even that became outsourced to one of the specialists in this kind of thing, one of the more niche GDS players when such terms were still relevant.

Afaik you are also oversimplifying on the API front as well - whilst actual price calculations may be ephemeral - the inventory data their are based on certainly isn't (with the possible exception of RA in this case, as they never used inventory based pricing).

Re timing. I've seen these trains running in early commuting hours on one of the busiest lines into London - 6.30am or so. Given that I don't believe there's much problem with getting them on the network.

The transition is the problem

There is a stage when a significant minority are unemployed but the prevailing social and economic structures are still directly tied to the output of the remaining cash generating industries.

At some point we need to devise economic models that don't work on financial measures.

You sure about that? The colour coding was for a cyber gun which were blue in this episode, rather than master death ray red.

I don't know if you are being deliberately obtuse or not but its never touted as shining a laser in your eyes.

Its touted as a corrective medical procedure.

Your description is analogous to describing surgery as having your body cut open by a man with a knife, accurate but wilfully unhelpful for the case in hand.

Apple would probably think (if they cared to) that the fact you haven't taken the plunge previously probably means you weren't likely to this time either. Therefore no lost sale.

Unfortunately for those of us who like that stuff - I suspect Apple will continue down the path of less and less user upgradeability.

Since I have about 10 apple products in use in the house - I hardly think you can categorise me as Anti-Apple Mr Coward.

Whilst I appreciate there might be technical limitations - some kind of workaround would have been nice - ie displaying at 4k resolutions.

If Hank Scorpio Elon Musk used anything as prosaic as an RPG I'd be sorely disappointed. A frikkin Shark mounted laser beam or an Orbiting Ion cannon as a minimum.

Samsung ironically used to be one of the best at this. I had one or 2 Samsung Win Mobile smartphones that came with a fat and thin battery and respective cases.

The whole point of govt spending is that you don't have to sell the proles on anything under 5% of the annual govt budget.
