May the fourths be with you: Muso John Williams returns to Star Wars

Re: Surprised...

In fairness, the music was some of the best stuff about the prequel trilogy. I remember when it was due to come out, I was listening to the music and got very excited about the film.

The plot may be bad. The acting may be bad. With John Williams behind it, the music will be fantastic.

Wikileaker Bradley Manning's court martial verdict expected today

Re: This is about a Soldier under an Oath of Fealty...

Isn't there something in that Oath about a soldier's duty to defend and protect the citizens of his country as well? Or are they not allowed to defend and protect the citizens from their duly elected officials?

PEAK APPLE: iPad market share hits the skids

Tweaking

People are bored with tablets. World and Dog has one of some sort now and things like "retina displays" aren't enough of a draw to make people shell out £400-500 so they can be the envy of their friends. Tablets need to have something new and revolutionary (projected keyboards, finger gesture recognition...who knows?) in order to be *exciting* again. Samsung and Apple are both stuck in a holding pattern at the moment.

It's too big a gamble

The Yawhg vs XCOM: Enemy Unknown. How small devs can win against the big boys

Thomas 4

Very true

Indie teams often have a better idea as to what makes a good game better than mainstream publishers do.

For example, take EA's Syndicate. It had little in common with the original game and was little more than an attempt to cash in on the success of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Now, on Kickstarter, the original team behind Syndicate is making a game called Satellite Reign, which is being touted as a genuine sequel to Syndicate Wars. It looks more like what EA *should* have released than what they *did* release.

Hope it makes its funding goal.

Old news is not necessarily bad news

"Well, did anything change as a result of it?"

<goes off to check> "Hey, nothing changed! They were hoping it would all just be forgotten - and we forgot!"

Sometimes old news repeated can serve as a reminder just make sure changes are actually happening.

Bingo. It's the same reason why the computers and processors on deep space probes are frigging ancient by today's standards. The technology may be old and slow but it is *reliable*. Reliable counts for a lot when you're a million miles from Earth or when you're nuts deep in nuclear crap.

Badger bloodbath brouhaha brings 'bodge' bumpkin bank burgle bluster

Thomas 4

I'm on the fence on this one

It's not nice to see any species being culled but it's sometimes necessary for the ecosystem as a whole. Deer immediately spring to mind as an example.

It might just have been where I was in St John's Ambulance as a kid and therefore read up more on badgers but I'm under no illusions that they are adorable fuzzy wuzzy creatures. They can be vicious little sods - the American badger for example can disembowel a coyote and is capable of even seeing off freaking *bears*. It's European equivalent shouldn't be any less capable, given it's half as large again as its American counterpart.

Thomas 4

First female Doctor

I'd actually like to see this. It'd be cool to see how he reacts to his new gender and whether it changes any aspects of his personality as a result.

Billie Piper - No. Too much storyline associated with the character.

Olivia Coleman - While she was great in Peep Show and Hot Fuzz, she doesn't really strike me as "Doctor" material.

Helen Mirren (?sp) - Now we're getting somewhere.

Alex Kingston - An ideal candidate....but too much storyline already associated with her.

I think it'd need to be a more mature actress, someone age 40 or older. A 20 or 30 something wouldn't really have the air of authority the Doctor needs.
