its been an age since I used a 'text' editor for anything longer than about twenty lines of code. I think it was partly down to using reasonable IDEs but more importantly 'loosing' the one editor to rule them all approach. Most of the convenient and easy to use keystrokes have been upgraded to 'macros' that work outside the editor. I barely write much code these days - other than when playing at learning something new. Once I've learnt what I need to do I tend to build the code that builds the code for me - using simple stone age techniques generally. Nothing like a flint axe for cutting through the misswired cables someone has shoved into the wrong conduit in your 747 or skyscraper. IntelliJ is just a collection of stone age tools after all.

Yeh but we can stiil read 5000 year old cuneiform tablets - I doubt we can read the shit of 10 year old paper judging from the oxidisation I've seen on most of the stuff around.

On paper the ARM sale was a great deal for the shareholders? I'm wondering as there are a lot of ARM deals that seem to have been closed since the buyout that were not mentioned in the literature they sent to me but must have been in the offing.

The last company I did any international language coding for the first thing I did was to write a DB for all the user interface text and a tool to allow whichever country was in control of their language interface to put their own translations of the english versions in. Even better they got to be in charge of their own CSS which I'd insisted on since the english master version had been working for nearly two years while the advertising department flip-flopped on colours fonts and images. Its amazing how easy coding is when you can fuck off this sort of random noise and penis waving from the design process. Give people ownership of their part of the process and the means to ensure you cant be to blame and they dont spend their lives trying to fuck you up.

Business have been getting away with murder for years. The chances of getting the law changed to actually move a step closer to being responsible are well below the IEEE smallest denormalized number.

That would require someone in HR who has event the faintest idea about how to do more than turn on the PC and ring the support desk, or more amusingly paying someone for about 3 years after you've fired them.

I like to get everything to do with my work anywhere documented but never has any company ever wanted to pay for 1% of what was necessary.

Having worked on accessibility I think I can safely say that any cool effect and animation is just a pain in the arse. Its quite surprising how effective simple vanilla no frills shit is! If you want to make your web site accessible then this is what you start with. When you have that working you find that, guess what, it is more than sufficient for everyone else. You only need cool effects and animations to keep them busy while you try and do what you should have been doing in the first place.

Tried it for a while - only problem I had was with sound not restarting on suspend but that was down (I guess) to proprietary drivers. Apart from the fact I dont like the desktop its a bloody fine implementation and would recommend it to anyone from the Windows world who wants their machine back.

The reason why we have trouble deporting criminals is due to the incompetent Home Secretary we had at the time who couldn't even get dates right on documents. Some oaf call May IIRC.

And ISTR other countries went to the EU court and asked if they could deport criminals and the court said 'yeh sure'. Its only in the UK we can make something simple into someone else's problem to such a level and not invent intergalactic travel. Don't expect that to improve either way.

I think I should point out that your thesis requires that good people with guns kill bad people with guns (or even zombies without guns) the evidence for this is lacking to say the least.

I'd imagine within hours of the zombie warnings going out armed militias would have machine gunned anything moving and provided any zombies with so much easy to access braaaaaaaaaaaaiiiin food they would be overwhelmed.
