There is a LOT of stuff on iTunes.com that is not available on iTunes.ca, just as one example.
Give me a good reason why I can't buy from itunes.com (or uk.co, or ...).
A good reason, not something about licenses (that the media company wrote) or wanting to charge some people more for the same thing...
Ads in movies/TV. Like Bond gets a BMW and drinks cat piss beer all of a sudden. Or Hawaii 5O "why don't you bing it on your windows phone".
It would not be much different if they just had the actors hold up a box of soap and tell us how great it is.
As for the nagware campaign. I just love the "you would not steal a car" thing at the start of a DVD I just paid for. Makes me want to run off some copies and hand them out on the street corner.
You could use this to disprove someone saying a recording was made at a fixed date and time. If there is a miss match it's false.
But I don't think you can use it to say something was recorded at a given time for sure. How could you say that a given pattern didn't happen more then once?
Apple must have their 30%, if Amazon was to sell the same book for %20 or OMG %10 what would you expect Apple to do? Compete?
Maybe once the 5 year deal is over Apple and their publishing buddies can come up with a contract that requires stores to charge more for the paper version then the ebook.
Something of the opposite I think. My school text book didn't say how/why he died. Even having read about the work he did with early computers and code breaking I didn't know anything but the date of his death.
It was not until the pardon came up a few years ago that I learned what had happened and wondered what he might have done if he had lived longer.

Not-metro is a crapy phone interface that they stuck on computers to try and sell more phones.

How is this copying Apple's playbook? Apple don't make any of the parts found in their stuff. Apples extra value comes from controlling the content that comes after they sell the phone.
If anyone is copying Apple's playbook it would be Microsoft. It seems copying Apple's playbook may not be a path to instant money....
It would have to be much more then £200.
Current TV sellers are very low margin.
They would have to buy the TV guts from one of the current companies, stick an Apple TV inside the box, and add the Apple margin. They are not going to start with a cheapo set so it's going to be more like a £1200 TV with a £400 premium. I don't think even Apple can make that sell.

From what I've seen BB10 looks like it may put them back on track. I have never had a Blackberry but I will be having a look at it when it ships. The only way I'd end up with a Windows Phone would be if work gave me one (some of the marketing types have received one) but I'm not holding my breath for that.
Beyond all the added complexity it would never work. The same tricks used to create movies / records that make no money, or even companies that make no profit would be used to make sure a patent never pays off.
I think the first step should be to ban "non-practising entities" from holding patents. Use it or lose it.

If Apple, Google, Micorosoft... buy up big piles of patents as a group how is that going to help a startup. Microsoft even have their own pet troll to deal with any uppity startups.
Things can change. We have a set of 13 Vostro laptops. With a switch from XP Office 03 to Win7 Office 2010 they all also got a RAM upgrade (one screw, open door, snap in RAM). Two people needed to run XP VMs so they also got bigger hard drives (wow three screws). I've also replaced 3 CMOS batteries that died in a two day period (it's been a couple months and no more have died, strange_) they were a bit of a pain requiring me to download the service manual from Dell's site and remove about 9 screws to get to them.
But no heat gun, guitar picks, splurges, or other such things. And if they were still under warranty I could do the upgrades without voiding the warranty.

That they have burned with crappy plastic printers that no longer run any longer then much cheaper printers and HP's Over Priced DRM chipped toners. Don't even start about their wonderful laptops...
There are also a vast number of "Free" games that let you play for a bit then you hit a wall and can't get to the next level without buying coins or other crap. I ran accross one guy calling them "pay to win" games and that seems like a good name. Facebook is the same with games.
I would much rather have a free version that lets you try it, then pay some fixed amount if I like it for the full game. I'm not going to touch any program that wants you to buy stuff in game.
Canadian offices have mostly moved to T8 with Electronic ballasts (that can drive 5 single bulb fixtures). They have low voltage control so they can be turned off remotely at night, and as Allan said no hum, and no flicker (except when the bulb is about to die).
Only if you have electric heat. If you have gas heat, gas costs less just about any place I know of, and only in the winter.
If you have your windows open that heat just flies out the window. If you have Air Conditioning that you pay twice in the summer as you have to pay to pump that unwanted heat out of your house.

It costs 25 cents to send or receive an email (pay for spam!)
I have disabled it as not useful (and overpriced) the why it works now.
The sad thing is making a TV show out of it.
I thought TLC was The Learning Channel (not living in the US, or having cable TV) but looking at their website it clearly has very little to do with learning. "The number-one nonfiction media company" they say... the whole thing looks like a load of crap to me. People pay for that stuff?

It's just software. Apple could release iOS 6.1 and completely change how it works.
It's just an app, built into iOS but still just an app. There are no rubber bands, springs, or even transistors that manage the interactions.
This is no different then how MS Word, or Firefox manage certain interactions.

#4 would be what your talking about, and I'm not sure what #6 is. Name and account picture?
I expect most people click express.
They also try to make you sign up to a Microsoft account (like hotmail...) even if you are connected to a domain. Some apps like calendar just tell you to logon and try again if you are on a local/domain account. Weather tries to get you to turn on location service but you can just enter a city with a bit of poking. The weather app also has ads (shampoo in my case).
