Because large corporations wrote this thing. It's going to be setup to work for large corporations with teams of lawyers on staff. In the same way a corner shop can't assign their trademarks to a postbox in a tax haven the way Starbucks can.

I thought the mail one would be useful, until I had read all my new mail and the stupid thing started distracting me by displaying old read emails. Disabled.

It took very little time for me to disable, and shrink all the live tiles on my surface. Out of the box it was like a web page full of Flash ads.

Lots of luck with the firmware update. The one I bought got a hardware update (didn't change the model number, you had to check the SN# to know what one you had) and people with the old version only got one minor bug fix, then it was "go buy the new one".

I expect the new law took them 5 minutes, but they waited to sneak it in at the last second so they would not have to deal with people saying this one is just as bad as the old unlawful law. They figure someone will come up with something to distract people by the time they get back.

Beta Windows 8 did have that feature. Just had to change a registry entry and you got your desktop back. But the people who though Metro was a good idea had it stripped out for the final release.

Who is Google to decide if something is in the public interest? Can you even define what "in the public interest" is, or is it one of the I know it when I see it type things?

They are a company so they only care about what is in the companies interest, if they don't de-list something they could end up with court costs defending that.

If the request comes from Joe Average guy, they can ignore it. From a lawyer, or a corporation? Link is toast. Only in the most black and white cases will they not remove the link.

As I said before this will be just like Youtube and the DMCA. If Youtube get a takedown request your video is toast. Even if it perfectly legal and it's now your problem to get it put back. This is abused on purpose to get rid of stuff people don't like, or in error by automatic systems. I have personally experienced this when one division of a major record label proved me with material to promote a bands appearance and approved the final site, but a different division of the same company had the site taken down with a DMCA request a day later.

How did they control for free WiFi

The local Cable monopoly (Rogers) have routers* that provide two SSIDs, One secured, and a guest SSID that appears to be wide open but requires you to open an HTTPS: webpage and enter a password (so all your non SSL traffic is not encrypted).

*That only need to be rebooted a few times a week.

You might feed a square wave into a speaker, but it's not going to be very square when it comes out as sound. Even if you could move (and stop) the speaker cone fast enough the air it moves compresses.

I expect this was an off the shelf RC toy (toys can be expensive and still be toys) and I don't think I've seen one with a "drop stuff" function as some idiot would think it was a good idea to drop darts or something like that on people.

No Amazon don't care (much like ebay) it's easy to find blatantly obvious bootleg DVDs. But they jump if they get a complaint from a big company with lawyers on staff.

I might be interested in a 7-8" to replace my original surface RT. But I expect they were planing to charge $600 or more, and I would not be interested at that price. I don't think anyone would be who was spending their own money, and I'm sure MS know that now.

Solved

They now have then on a touch screen, scattered randomly across 8 different screens.

Learning from Windows and Office they will automatically be re-arranged depending on what button you pushed last.
